Abstract

The condition of the Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on the banking sector which caused a decline in bank performance in 2020 as indicated by a decrease in ROA of 35.63%, an increase in BOPO of 9.06%, and an increase in NPL of 20.95% (yoy). This study aims to estimate banking cost efficiency during economic conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic for the period 2020 – 2022. The sample of this study was 40 bank companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the study period. The research method used is stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) to estimate the cost efficiency of a bank and principal component regression to estimate the determinant of a bank’s cost efficiency. It was found that the average cost efficiency of banks in Indonesia has increased every year by 0.720925 in 2020, 0.773875 in 2021 and 0.818744 in 2022 respectively. The factors that affects cost efficiency is NPL and LDR are significantly negative effect on cost efficiency, while ROA was significanly positive effect on cost efficiency. Based on the research results, it is hoped that banks can make adjustments to credit allowance reserves, streamline the number of human resources in collecting and recovery units related to credit management, and maximize the bank’s intermediation function.

Abstract

This study sought to examine the association between gender and income tax compliance amongst sole proprietorship SMEs in the district of Soroti, Uganda. Literature was reviewed as directed by the specific objectives. The study was supported by the benefit theory and the Fischer tax compliance model. The study adopted the explanatory and descriptive research designs. The study picked 384 participants from the target population of 2,590 owners of SMEs. Data was gathered using questionnaires and analyzed using cross tabulation and inferential statistics. Hypotheses were tested at 5 percent significance and normality test conducted. Study findings disclosed that gender has insignificant relationship with filing of returns of income tax and prompt discharge of income tax. The study concluded that gender differences do not explain decisions of owners of SMEs to file returns of income tax and pay income tax promptly. The study recommended that policy makers should consider demographic background of individual taxpayers in mapping out strategies to improve individual income tax compliance.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the perceptions of e-commerce entrepreneurs regarding tax obligations. This research uses qualitative methods with an interpretive paradigm in order to explain social world phenomena from the perspective of e-commerce entrepreneurs. The research subjects are e-commerce entrepreneurs with gross turnover of between IDR 500 million and IDR 4.8 billion per year. The results of this research indicate that business actors are aware of taxes but do not have sufficient understanding to fulfill their tax obligations, so they tend to prefer to hand it over to employees who have a tax background. Three participants met all the criteria for compliant taxpayers. The other two participants did not carry out most of their tax obligations, which will result in tax arrears in the future.

The study adopted descriptive design and questionnaires were used to gather data. Data was analyzed by use of inferential statistics. Findings revealed that excessive lending interest rates had negative insignificant association while forceful loan recovery practices and coercive lending techniques had positive insignificant relationship with performance of SACCOs. Abstract

This study examines factors influencing job satisfaction among gig workers in Lucknow's food delivery sector, focusing on flexibility, motivation, and work characteristics. Data from 530 workers affiliated with platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, and Eat Sure were analysed to understand these dynamics. Findings reveal that flexibility in work schedules significantly enhances job satisfaction by enabling workers to balance personal and professional responsibilities effectively. Additionally, motivation, particularly through intrinsic factors like personal growth, recognition, and achievement, plays a pivotal role in job satisfaction, underscoring the importance of fulfilling work. Positive work characteristics such as job autonomy and task variety also contribute substantially to satisfaction levels. Autonomy allows gig workers to make decisions and manage tasks independently, while task variety reduces monotony, keeping work engaging and stimulating. These factors collectively foster a satisfying work experience within the gig economy. The study highlights the importance of organizational policies that promote flexibility, intrinsic motivation, and worker centre environments to enhance well-being and retention among gig workers. By prioritizing these aspects, gig platforms can improve job satisfaction and worker productivity, contributing to the sustainability and growth of the gig economy. These insights offer practical implications for improving gig work conditions, creating a more supportive and satisfying environment for gig workers in the evolving platform economy.
