Abstract

Indo-Mauritian group cultural hegemony has become a trend in music education in Mauritius. This fact has led to social imbalances and inequality of art education. In this situation, Mauritius needs openness and a new policy of arts education, and this must be taken into account because Mauritius has a diverse population. The problem is how the condition of postcolonial music education affects the art education policy in Mauritius. This study aims to uncover this problem. The approach taken is based on an ethnographic approach using a grounded theory strategy. In a postcolonial context and highly multicultural society, hegemonic forces are at play that promotes the Hindu majority ethnic group (termed the “new colonizers”) over all the other ethnic groups. This argument is supported on one side by an analysis of the public music education system, and on the other, by the process of teacher training and certification. An analytic autoethnographic method grounded in a transformative philosophical perspective informs this qualitative research. Results demonstrate a substantial disparity of opportunities for students and prospective music teachers in favor of the Hindu ethnic group. An intercultural perspective on music education in Mauritius is provided that could portray Mauritian nationhood within the public music education system.

Abstract

In recent years, the interdisciplinary approach to art has gained popularity in the field of art studies. Numerous art studies transcend creative disciplines, allowing for the production of novel ideas and works. This study aims to understand the multidisciplinary art and design processes at the Institut Kesenian Jakarta. The data were acquired by observation and a review of the literature. Observations were made in order to collect field data about the work of art. This observation method was employed while visiting numerous exhibitions and performances at the Institut Kesenian Jakarta, and the literature was sourced by reading articles published in foreign magazines. The examination focuses on the difficulty inherent in diverse art practices. This study discovered that collaborative work increases the process of knowledge exchange between members and groups. As a result, an art ecosystem is developed from the standpoint of art creation and study. This research contributes to the discovery of new creative models or value chains and the provision of fundamental knowledge to develop a diverse art ecosystem. Art colleges can also contribute to interdisciplinary understanding and culture by fostering knowledge and abilities in art creation that are applicable across fields and are not constrained by the nomenclature of a single 'subject of arts'

Abstract

Culture is one of the foundations for the existence of Indonesia as a nation, as it is expressed in the second stanza of her national anthem. The government has taken an initiative to prioritize national character building, which places character education to realize the vision of national development. One of the efforts to visualize this Indonesian is constructed through a Bukalapak advertisement entitled “Barongsai Indonesia, Juara Hati Membangun Negeri,” which presented the Kong Ha Hong lion dance group and was published via Youtube. This study aims to see that the character values of the Indonesian nation can be constructed through digital media, more precisely through an advertisement. This research employed a qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm that sees facts as unique and has a special meaning. In addition, the analysis used Thomas Albert Sebeok's visual semiotics to depict several similar classifications to different visual symbols. It was found that every advertisement scene contained both visual and audio messages related to the adaptation of the culture and character of the Indonesian. The contribution and novelty of this research in its construction of the deep meaning of an advertisement are that the conscience has played a major role in the process of cultural adaptation in which the national characters have been honed through the actual actions in the heart-mind, body, and spirit. This research suggested that the character of the Indonesian nation can be formed through cultural adaptation, as proven by the Kong Ha Hong lion dance

Abstract

Billboard is one of the outdoor media that still has a vital role in the world of advertising despite being in the digital age. Billboard advertising is still used by a large number of companies to promote their products or services. One of them is Go-Jek Indonesia's online transportation company. This research will discuss the concept of the Go-Jek billboard advertisement, the Mager Tanpa Laper version in Yogyakarta. This study will use the iconographic and iconological approach offered by Erwin Panofsky. The method is then used to analyze the concept of Go-Jek advertising. The results of this study found that the advertising version of Go-Jek Mager Tanpa Laper brings an understanding that wants to be transferred to the target market in the form of ease and convenience in ordering food. Without the need to get out of the house and queue up - as evidenced by the tagline Mager Tanpa Laper (Lazy to Move), just Go-Jekin (use the Go-Jek Application).

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with diverse cultures. One of which is Wayang Kulit, which has been recognized by UNESCO. Wayang kulit has a variety of names and personalities, however most younger generations are not familiar with the characters of these shadow puppets. With today's rapid technological advancements, people could use this technology to detect objects using cameras. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is one method that can be used. CNN is a learning process that is included in the Deep Learning section and is used to find the best representation. The CNN is commonly used for object detection, would be used to classify good and bad characters. The data used consists of 100 black and white puppet images that were downloaded one at a time. The data was obtained through a training process that uses the CNN method and Google Colab to help speed up the training process. After that, a new model is created to test  the puppet images. The result obtained a 92 percent accuracy rate, means that CNN can differentiate the Wayang Kulit character

The ethnographic method was used in this study - the data were obtained through observation and interviews with actors or musicians Saluang Sirompak. The analysis was carried out by paying attention to the function of music and the organology of the musical instruments as a power-producing tone that can affect mental disorders for women who are the target victims. Abstract

In the aesthetic study, semiotic interpretation is an intellectual approach to deciphering the hidden meaning of an aesthetic achievement's taste. The study's goals include comprehending the artwork's structure, which necessitates an in-depth interpretation of the language by translating it into official symbols. This research method uses a linear formation sample with semantic attributes attached to the Kufic calligraphy of artworks. The findings reveal that the emergence of geometric lines in a linear composition has a decorative abstraction that may be used to argue that the artist intended to place it there and that this is a symbol of the cosmos and its existence. This study adds to our understanding of compositional insight in Arabic calligraphy as an expressive aesthetic expression that alludes to the text in the sense of meaning that lies underneath the direct meaning

Abstract

The tourism industry and craft products are two sectors that are long developed, complementing and strengthening each other. However, not many people consider ceramic craft product design with local culture basis. The research aims to show how local culture can be used as a source for ceramic craft product design ideas. Through design innovation and production techniques, we can increase varieties of ceramic craft product design. However, to make it come true, it needs a creative method as its solution. Creative method application includes: (1) Developing ceramic craft design for souvenir, based on local culture; (2) ceramic craft visual exploration for souvenir sourced from the local culture with Kerapan Sapi Madura (Cow Racing) as creation idea; (3) Ceramic craft production technique for souvenir; (4) Improvement and analysis of ceramic craft product innovation for a souvenir. (5) Analysis of creation result. Creation results can be seen from two design sets of ceramic craft products based on local culture with the “Kerapan Sapi Madura (Cow Racing)” theme as a product design idea.

Abstract

This article discusses campursari’s music, which has an increasingly broad role, from profane to sacrilegious Islamic areas. Since its birth, this music serves as entertainment music. In the era of the 1990s and its peak in the 2000s, this music entered and interacted with the Islamic community. The entry of campursari music into the Islamic religious community is the embodiment of expectations and demands for environmental situations and conditions. Hopes and needs give birth to musical syncretism, which gives birth to adaptation strategies. Verstehen are appropriate methods for recognizing forms of adaptation and syncretism. The choice of the verstehen method is because this article does not merely highlight the problem of music, but also tries to understand the social actions of campursari musicians in serving the muslim community via campursari music. The choice of this approach is because musical adaptation stems from the idea that the birth of musicality has the support of a socially developed network of meanings. The benefit is to recognize the principles and rules of adaptive value and productive syncretism that occur behind music phenomena. The results of this study indicate that campursari's performance is sufficient to prove that campursari's musical musicality in the context of Islamic rituals is productive syncretism. Adaptation and syncretism are thus two methods and ways of building products, both of which must co-exist.
