Abstract

Illumination or manuscript (the art of the book), can be interpreted as a decorative visual work that is containedin the manuscript that serves as a decoration. Basically used to beautify certain parts, especially on thefront page of the script (frontispiece). In ancient manuscripts by Acehnese scholars, various forms of illuminationwere adopted which adopted the local Acehnese decorative style. The beauty of the illumination in thetreasures of ancient manuscripts by Acehnese ulama, especially those contained in the Al-Quran Manuscriptscompiled into a collection of non-governmental institutions (private) in the city of Banda Aceh at this time hasnot been fully touched by studies that lead to visual aspects. Both in terms of comprehensive data collectionto in-depth analysis in the perspective of fine arts. This study aims to examine the visual aspects that focus onthe variety of Aceh’s decoration on illuminations in several Al-Quran Manuscripts from the Pedir Museumcollection. This research uses quantitative research methods, using data collection techniques through observation, interviews, documentation, and data collection. The data that has been collected is then carried out theprocess of identifying, categorizing, and analyzing the data by using the digitizing method of ornamentaldiversity in several Al-Quran Manuscripts from the Banda Aceh Pedir Museum collection.

Abstract

As a young species of 200.000 years, human is part of earth ecosystem. For 3.8 billion years, other livingbeings have evolved, adapting and selected by nature, until we came and disrupt the balance. Populationgrowth and climate change impact all of earth’s ecosystem. Urbanization and deforestation resulted in floodingin parts of Indonesia. Flooding is worse in urban areas as more risks involved. The Search and Rescueoperation can benefit from remote controlled unmanned vehicles to help save people. Conventional propulsionuses propeller, however in urban flooding condition, there are lots of debris in the water and the propeller canget stuck. Biomimicry uses nature’s genius to solve problem with emphasis on sustainability. This approachseeks nature’s advice in designing an alternative solution to the propeller problem in certain condition. Mobuliformswimmers, such as Manta Rays, present a model of efficient and debris-proof propulsion that can be used inthe search and rescue unmanned vehicles. This paper will highlight the Biomimicry process in designing aSearch and Rescue vehicle, called RCM3D-SAR that uses inspiration from Manta Ray’s pectoral fins. Thedesign is based on additive manufacturing technology and form follows function approach.

Abstract

Electronic Waste, abbreviated as E-waste, is a product of no longer used electronic devices. E-waste alsoconsidered as dangerous, as it contains 2,70% of toxic substances. The sheer amount of electronic wasteproduced by citizens of Indonesia alone means that any semblance of effort is needed to process thesewastes into something which has usage and economic value. Printed Circuit Board or shorten as PCB is acomponent structure of an electronic devices, unused electronic devices still has PCB left intact inside ofthem, which make PCB also an electronic waste. This design was done to reuse E-waste, in this case is PCBinto an interior accessory. Other than reducing the amount of electronic waste in our vicinity, this design hasanother goal to increase the ingeniousness of the human resources who are going to realize the design into thefinal product, also to teach and engage the public to develop a more creative way of thinking in solvingenvironmental problems of our vicinity. The final product of this design is a lamp armature made of PCBs. Thesurface of PCB has intricate pattern and a futuristic look to it, which when processed into an interior accessorycould increase the visual esthetic of a room. Lamp armature itself has many variations, and the chosen variantfor this design is table lamp, and the lamp will be able to be placed on a nightstand and act as a sleep lamp.To strengthen the armature structure, black painted iron was used as a place where the PCB will be arrangedand the lamp placed. BMC (Business Model Canvas) was used to analyze the market and to help the marketingof the lamp armature. This lamp armature was designed to prove that even an electronic waste such asPCB able to retain economic and usage value.

Abstract

The city of Surabaya is the second largest city after Jakarta and of course is inhabited by millions of peoplewho produce trash every day, especially plastic waste which is mostly produced from used food containers, plastic cups, straws and plastic bags. Various methods are used by the government to overcome this problemso that the city of Surabaya can become a cleaner and more beautiful city. One community in Surabaya calledthe Waste Recycling Project is a caring community, focusing on the waste recycling activities in Surabaya. The Waste Recycling Project community is able to change the form (transformation) of waste into functionalgoods. This encourages this community to have a place where it can be developed into a community tourismdestination with a Human Centered Design approach where people and tourists can come to visit the WasteRecycling Project to tour and learn together about plastic waste management. This interior design is focusedon designing a community place that can accommodate gathering activities for service learning, space forplastic waste recycle workshop activities, and as a forum for aspirations of creative ideas as well as a gatheringplace for people who have interests and concerns for the surrounding environment.
