Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of PMRI learning with open-ended problems on students' mathematical critical thinking ability in  MTsN 1 Kota Kediri. This research method used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pretest posttest control group design. The population of this research is all of class VIII MTsN 1 Kota Kediri. Sample of this research are Class VIII G was the experimental group and class VIII E was the control group. The instruments used are test questions (pretest and posttest) based on critical thinking indicators including interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and explanation, RPP and learning implementation observation sheet. The results show that the average pretest and posttest scores of students' critical thinking skills in the open-ended-based PMRI class were 33.8 and 75.79. While the average pretest and posttest classes that use conventional learning are 33.97 and 65.50.The results of the independent sample t-test and obtained the value of sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 where 0.000 < 0.05 so is accepted. This means that there is a difference in the average critical thinking ability of students after using PMRI learning based on open-ended with conventional learning. Furthermore, to determine the level of effectiveness of the learning model used, the n-gain test was carried out and the average n-gain score for the experimental class was 0.6379, and was categorized as moderate. While the control class is 0.4800 and is categorized as moderate. The average value of the experimental class n-gain score is greater than the control class, so it can be concluded that Open Ended-based PMRI learning is more effective in improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The low ability of problem solving is caused by students who are not actively involved in the learning process. Student activity is needed to develop ideas and knowledge in solving mathematical problems. This study aims to see the effect of student activity-based problem solving learning on the problem solving abilities of class X students of SMA Negeri 2 Palembang. This research is a quantitative study with a one group pretest-posttest design with a sample of 35 students who were selected using a cluster sampling technique. After the Pretest and Posttest were carried out, the researcher conducted a normality test with the help of the SPSS application using the Kolmogorov Smirnov Test. Test the hypothesis using the t test for the dependent sample. Based on the test results, it was found that the significance value was 0.000 and <0.05, which meant that there was a significant influence between students' problem solving abilities before and after learning student activity-based problem solving.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesulitan yang dialami siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika materi bangun ruang sisi datar. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Teknik pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik Purposive Sampling yaitu berdasarkan pertimbangan tertentu. Pertimbangan yang dimaksud berdasarkan banyaknya jenis-jenis kesulitan yang dialami siswa. Sedangkan subjek yang diambil dalam penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas VIII.3 yang terdiri dari 21 orang siswa/siswi. Instrumen penelitian ini menggunakan soal tes dan wawancara. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes dan wawancara. Analisis data terdiri dari reduksi data, penyajian data dan penerikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian dalam penelitian ini yaitu kesulitan yang dialami siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal bangun ruang sisi datar antara lain kesulitan konsep, kesulitan keterampilan dan kesulitan pemecahan masalah. Pada konsep siswa tidak memahami konsep bangun ruang sisi datar, pada keterampilan siswa melakukan kesalahan dalam operasi hitung matematika sedangkan pada pemecahan masalah siswa tidak dapat menyelesaikan soal dikarenakan terkendala soal yang diberikan berbeda dengan contoh soal yang ditemui siswa dikelas.Kata kunci: Kesulitan siswa, Bangun ruang sisi datar

Abstract

Efforts are still needed to increase students awareness of the existence of mathematics in everyday life so that ethnomathematics studies need to be encouraged. This study aims to describe and examine more deeply the mathematical activities and mathematical concepts contained in the traditional canang game played in West Bunguran Barat, Pulau Tujuh , Riau Archipelago Province, as well as to remind the community of this traditional canang game. This game has spread to various areas in the Riau Islands, one of which is the area in Sungai Lekop Village. The subjects of this study were children in the Sungai Lekop Village, Riau Archipelago Province. This study uses a type of qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The focus of this research is the basic concept of the traditional canang game and how to play it. In this study the researcher acts as the main instrument. Data collection techniques used are direct observation, interviews, and documentation. This study also used Spradley data analysis which consisted of several stages, namely domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, component analysis, and cultural theme analysis. The results showed that there were mathematical activities such as counting, measuring, playing, explaining/classifying, and comparing. In addition, there are mathematical concepts in the form of integer operations, comparisons, displacements and distances.
