Abstract

The phenomenon of money politics is a form of deviation in the democratic process that contradicts the principles of justice and leadership integrity. This practice is widespread during elections, where votes are traded for personal or group gain. This study aims to analyze the money politics phenomenon from the perspective of the Qur’an, using a contextual interpretation of Surah Al-Baqarah verse 188. This qualitative research uses a library-based approach with thematic and contextual exegesis. The verse prohibits consuming others' wealth unjustly, including bribing authorities to gain something unlawfully, both legally and morally. The findings reveal that money politics is a form of injustice condemned by the Qur’an, as it damages the structure of social justice and violates the trust in leadership. Contextual interpretation offers a relevant understanding of the verse in relation to today’s socio-political dynamics.

Abstract

This study is entitled "The Miserly Nature of Humans in Surah Al-Ma’arij Verses 19–21: A Maqashidi Tafsir Approach". The focus of this research is to uncover the essence of human miserliness as described in Surah Al-Ma’arij verses 19–21 and to explore its relevance in religious and social life using the Maqashidi interpretation approach. The choice of this topic is based on the reality that miserliness is one of the spiritual diseases that hinders social justice and public welfare. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach and applies Maqashidi exegesis to extract the values of maqashid al-shari’ah (objectives of Islamic law) embedded in the verses. The findings show that humans are innately anxious and miserly, except for those who are faithful, perform prayer regularly, and are consistent in righteous deeds. These verses highlight the significance of spiritual development in overcoming greed and emphasize Islam’s concern for social justice and solidarity. The conclusion of this research underlines that miserliness is a moral problem that can be addressed through the maqashidi framework by strengthening faith, worship, and social awareness. The study recommends the implementation of value-based character education inspired by maqashid principles to cultivate generous and socially responsible individuals.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology has transformed the communication patterns of Muslim youth, particularly through social media, which has now become a primary platform for interaction. While it offers many benefits, social media also presents serious challenges, such as the rise of hate speech, the spread of misinformation, and the use of impolite language. These phenomena indicate a decline in moral and ethical values in digital communication, highlighting the need to instill the principles of Islamic morals (akhlaq Islami) as a foundation for healthy communication ethics. The problem formulation in this study is how the concept of Islamic morals can serve as a guideline in shaping the communication behavior of Muslim youth on social media. The research questions are: which principles of Islamic morals are relevant to online interactions, and how their application can foster polite and ethical communication. This study employs a library research method by reviewing literature sources from books, scholarly journals, articles, and relevant documents discussing Islamic morals, communication ethics, and youth behavior on social media. The findings reveal that values such as sidq (truthfulness), hifz al-lisan (guarding speech), amanah (trustworthiness), ta’awun (mutual help), and iffah (chastity) are highly relevant in shaping positive digital communication ethics. Applying these values can enhance ethical awareness among Muslim youth, promote polite behavior, reduce the spread of negative content, and foster constructive interaction in digital spaces. This study emphasizes the importance of the role of education, family, and community in internalizing Islamic moral values through Islamic-based digital literacy training so that Muslim youth can become responsible, polite, and beneficial social media users for society

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of understanding the values of Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Isra verse 7 on the learning discipline of students in class XII-TKJ 2 at SMK Negeri Situraja. Field phenomena show that there are still students who lack discipline in learning, such as being late to class, neglecting assignments, and lacking focus in following lessons due to excessive use of gadgets. This condition reflects a weak awareness of discipline that should go hand in hand with Islamic values, one of which is contained in QS. Al-Isra verse 7 which teaches the principle of personal responsibility that every good deed will return to the doer as goodness and every bad deed will return as badness. This study uses a quantitative approach with an associative research type. The research population consisted of 36 students who were also used as samples using saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and questionnaire distribution with Likert scale measuring five indicators of understanding Quranic values namely personal responsibility, goodness repays goodness, justice of Allah, self-introspection, and moral independence, then analyzed using simple linear regression test, t-test, and coefficient of determination with the help of SPSS version 25 program. Research instruments have been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed that understanding of QS. Al-Isra verse 7 was in the good category with a percentage of 81 percent, likewise students' learning discipline also reached the good category with a percentage of 81 percent. Based on the results of simple linear regression analysis with the equation Y = 31.154 + 0.236X, it was found that there was a positive and significant influence between understanding QS. Al-Isra verse 7 and learning discipline with Pearson correlation coefficient value of 0.430 indicating a moderate level of relationship closeness and coefficient of determination of 18.5 percent. Hypothesis test results show t count value 2.776 is greater than t table 1.690 with a significance value of 0.009 which is smaller than 0.05. Thus it can be concluded that the higher students' understanding of the values contained in QS. Al-Isra verse 7, the higher the level of learning discipline shown, this proves that the internalization of Quranic values especially regarding personal responsibility and the law of cause and effect can become a strong spiritual foundation in forming students' disciplined character.

Abstract

This study stems from a concern over the moral and epistemological crisis that characterizes modern education, particularly in the post-truth era, where truth is often obscured by opinion and emotion. Current models of character education tend to be normative and pragmatic, lacking a solid epistemological foundation. To address this issue, the research explores the epistemology of wahyu–‘aql–ḥiss (revelation–reason–senses) in Ibn Taimiyah’s thought as the basis for developing an integrative and transcendental Islamic character education model. The study employs a qualitative-descriptive approach using library research and philosophical-hermeneutic analysis of Ibn Taimiyah’s seminal works—Dar’ Ta‘āruḍ al-‘Aql wa al-Naql, Majmū‘ al-Fatāwā, and al-Radd ‘ala al-Manṭiqiyyīn—supported by secondary literature from contemporary Islamic scholars. The results reveal that Ibn Taimiyah’s epistemology is structured upon three primary sources of knowledge: revelation as the absolute source of truth, reason as the means of rationalization, and the senses as empirical instruments for perceiving reality. These three dimensions form a harmonious and hierarchical system of knowledge under the supremacy of revelation. In the context of character education, this model emphasizes the balance between transcendental values, critical rationality, and empirical experience in shaping students’ moral character. The study concludes that the wahyu–‘aql–ḥiss epistemology is not merely theoretical but can serve as a pedagogical paradigm for designing Islamic character education grounded in divine values while remaining relevant to contemporary challenges. Further applied research is recommended to evaluate the practical effectiveness of this model across various educational levels.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between knowledge, the heart, and the five senses as presented in the classical work Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din by Imam Al-Ghazali. In Islamic intellectual tradition, these three elements are often understood as interconnected components in the process of acquiring knowledge. However, Imam Al-Ghazali offers a clear conceptual distinction and an in-depth explanation of the roles and functions of each element, as well as their interrelationship and its impact on a Muslim’s spiritual and social life. The five senses are viewed as the initial means of perceiving external reality, while the heart (qalb) functions as the center of awareness, understanding, and inner judgment. Knowledge, in Al-Ghazali’s perspective, is not limited to rational and empirical understanding but also encompasses inner and spiritual knowledge derived from the purity of the heart. The research method employed in this study is library research, using a content analysis approach. Data were collected through documentation, with Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din as the primary source, supported by relevant books and scholarly works as secondary sources. The findings indicate that the five senses, the heart, and knowledge operate synergistically to shape a holistic understanding of human cognition. This synergy enables individuals to acquire knowledge that is not only empirical and rational but also spiritual in nature, thereby contributing positively to moral formation, social life, and spiritual closeness to Allah SWT. Abstract

Learning motivation is an important factor that determines the success of students in the learning process. One of the external factors that is assumed to influence learning motivation is the learning environment, which includes the family environment, school environment, and community environment. A conducive learning environment is believed to create a comfortable learning atmosphere that can increase students’ engagement in the learning process. This study aims to analyze the condition of the learning environment, the level of students’ learning motivation, and the influence of the learning environment on students’ learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education subjects at SMK Ardli Sela Conggeang. This research used a quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational method. The population of this study consisted of all tenth-grade students totaling 32 students, and the entire population was used as the sample through the saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistical analysis and correlation analysis with the help of the SPSS program. The results showed that the students’ learning environment was categorized as very good with a percentage of 88%, while students’ learning motivation was categorized as very good with a percentage of 90%. The coefficient of determination analysis showed that the learning environment had an influence on students’ learning motivation of 10.89%, which is categorized as very weak. These findings indicate that students’ learning motivation is not only influenced by the learning environment but also by other factors such as learning interest, learning strategies, and family support. This study implies that efforts to improve students’ learning motivation need to be carried out comprehensively through the creation of a conducive learning environment and the implementation of innovative learning strategies.

Abstract

Past and contemporary Islamic movements overwhelmingly focused on political and economic reform, often neglecting the inner moral and intellectual condition of the individual. This paper argues that such neglect results from a fundamental confusion about the nature of education itself. The paper critiques the corporatisation of education and the reduction of authority to institutional structures rather than personal moral-intellectual integrity. The analysis offers a philosophical groundwork for rethinking Islamic educational initiatives beyond neoliberal and activist frameworks. Drawing principally on the educational philosophy of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas, the paper inspired by his concepts of adab (recognition and acknowledgement of proper order) and ta'dib (the inculcation of that order) as the necessary foundations for any authentic reforming initiative without neglecting education as its core; this process is what we name it the islamic educational movement.. We propose that such a movement must fulfil two preconditions. First, it must recognise the type of order it seeks, distinguishing between temporal orders (economic, political) which are sustained by external maintenance, and eternal orders (knowledge, truth) sustained by conscious commitment and integrity. Second, it must preserve the integrity of knowledge through the moral-spiritual refinement of the knower, as well as courageous actions that acknowledge its rightful places within the hierarchy of that type of order. It concludes that without recovering adab in the individual self discipline of their soul, no collective reform, however well organised, can restore justice (‘adl) or truth.

Abstract

The teachings and doctrines of the Tariqa represent the most comprehensive transformative pedagogical system in the Islamic intellectual heritage, yet they have not been fully represented in contemporary character education discourse in a paradigmatic and systematic manner. This study aims to analyze how the teachings and doctrines of the Tariqa can be represented as a holistic paradigm of character education from a Sufi perspective. This research employs a qualitative approach through an integrative literature review method accompanied by hermeneutic analysis of classical Sufi texts and contemporary Islamic education literature. The results reveal three main findings: first, the Sufi maqamat system encompassing taubah, zuhd, sabar, tawakkal, ridha, mahabbah, and ma'rifah represents a gradual, systematic, and continuous character formation roadmap; second, the doctrines of muraqabah and muhasabah function as mechanisms for the continuous internalization of character values by building theo-centric moral awareness more stable than conventional ego-centric approaches; and third, the practices of riyadhah and suhbah constitute transformative pedagogical methods proven effective in forming noble character (akhlaq al-karimah) through habit internalization and exemplary-based learning. This study concludes that the teachings and doctrines of the Tariqa constitute an authentic and transformative paradigm of character education, as they penetrate the qalb dimension of the human soul as the center of moral consciousness a dimension entirely absent in Western character education theories. This study recommends epistemic integration between the Sufi-Tariqa dimension and the contemporary character education framework as a fundamental solution to the moral crisis of the younger generation in Indonesia. Abstract

Maqamat wal Ahwal is a central concept in Sufi thought, referring to the spiritual stations (maqamat) achieved through mujahadah and riyaḍah, and inner states (ahwal) bestowed as divine gifts from Allah SWT in the journey of a spiritual seeker (salik). In the modern era, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) faces serious challenges including moral crises, spiritual degradation, and value disorientation among youth occurring precisely amid various character strengthening programs that have been implemented suggesting that current approaches remain cognitive and normative without engaging the spiritual dimension of students. This study aims to analyze how the reactualization of maqamat wal ahwal can serve as a holistic paradigm for modern PAI capable of addressing this crisis fundamentally. The study employs a critical literature review method, analyzing thirty relevant sources published between 2020 and 2026 through content analysis and thematic synthesis. The results reveal three main findings: first, maqamat wal ahwal provides a structured spiritual pedagogical framework for modern PAI by integrating the dimensions of human striving and divine bestowal into one cohesive educational process; second, the values embedded in maqamat are proven psychologically and pedagogically relevant for character formation among Generation Z students facing the pressures of digitalization and spiritual identity crises; and third, the reactualization model of maqamat wal ahwal through the integration of takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli stages represents a holistic and measurable character-learning blueprint. This study concludes that maqamat wal ahwal is an Islamic epistemological asset that must be integrated as a transformative paradigm in modern PAI curricula, and recommends developing maqamat wal ahwal-based PAI models as a strategic response to the spiritual crisis facing young Muslims in Indonesia.
