Abstract

Sentra Paramita Mataram provides mental and spiritual therapy to children who have engaged in criminal behavior. This study focuses on the congregational prayer therapy program offered at Sentra Paramita Mataram, specifically for children involved in sexual offenses, with a sample of eight (8) participants. These children face various underlying issues, one of which pertains to their relationship with Allah SWT, particularly regarding their understanding and practice of obligatory prayers. Many of them struggle with comprehending the pillars and conditions for valid prayer, reciting the prayers properly, and memorizing the prayer formulas. These challenges indirectly affect their behavior, making them prone to negative actions. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, utilizing observation, interviews, and collaboration for data collection. The findings indicate that consistent participation in congregational prayer therapy, conducted five times daily under the supervision and guidance of caregivers, positively influences the children’s behavior and character. This transformation becomes evident after more than one month of therapy. The prayer therapy, which is part of the court-mandated sentence for these children, plays a significant role in their behavioral improvement during their time at Sentra Paramita Mataram.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the need for a counselling approach that integrates psychological principles with Islamic spiritual values to address individuals' emotional and cognitive challenges holistically. The ABCDE technique within Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is considered relevant because it emphasises the role of beliefs in shaping emotional and behavioural responses, which aligns with Islamic teachings on self-reflection and inner awareness. The purpose of this study is to analyse the integration of the ABCDE technique of REBT with Islamic values in the context of Islamic guidance and counselling. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilising a library research method to review relevant books, scholarly articles, and previous studies related to REBT and Islamic counselling. The findings suggest that the ABCDE technique enables individuals to recognise that emotional disturbances are not directly caused by external events, but rather by irrational beliefs about those events. When integrated with Islamic values such as patience (sabr), trust in God (tawakkul), effort (ikhtiar), and acceptance of divine decree (qadar), individuals are better able to replace irrational beliefs with rational, constructive, and spiritually grounded perspectives. This integration supports emotional regulation, inner peace, and adaptive behaviour while strengthening spiritual awareness. The study concludes that integrating the ABCDE technique of REBT with Islamic values contributes significantly to the development of holistic Islamic counselling practices by fostering balanced cognition, emotional stability, and spiritual resilience in facing life's challenges.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the need to address an empirical void concerning the integration of hadith-derived values into the cultivation of psychological autonomy within humanistic counselling, particularly to respond to maladaptive dependencies such as drug abuse. The research adopts a qualitative literature-based design. The corpus of authenticated hadith was hermeneutically interpreted and triangulated with contemporary counselling scholarship to derive operational indicators of autonomy. Analysis revealed two primary mechanisms: the construction of religious meaning that bolsters intrinsic motivation, and the activation of emotion-regulation techniques through ritual practices, such as dhikr (asking for forgiveness) and patience training, as adaptive coping strategies. Based on these findings, the study formulates three operational indicators, affective regulation, authentic decision-making, and moral responsibility, that can be translated into psychometric items and intervention modules. In conclusion, integrating hadith offers a values-grounded framework and practical techniques that enrich humanistic counselling while remaining culturally resonant. Recommendations address researchers in developing and validating measurement instruments; clinicians in adapting intervention modules with cultural competence; and policymakers in supporting controlled trials of evidence-based, culturally tailored interventions. The study also emphasises content validation by hadith scholars and counselling experts, rigorous psychometric testing, pilot-controlled evaluations, and standardised training for Muslim counsellors to ensure ethical implementation and ongoing monitoring.
