Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of family religiosity and educational institutions on students' religious intelligence, with a particular focus on comparing students from Madrasah Aliyah and public high schools. In light of the decline in religious values among Indonesian youth amidst globalization and secularization, the study seeks to understand how family and school environments contribute to the development of religious intelligence and how substantive religiosity, encompassing faith, worship, and moral values, plays a role in shaping students’ spiritual and moral development. A quantitative correlational design was employed, with data collected from 400 grade XI students across two schools: SMAN 24 and MAN 2 in East Bandung. A 4-point Likert scale questionnaire was used to measure family religiosity, school religiosity, and substantive religiosity. Spearman correlation tests were conducted to examine relationships between the variables, while the Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare religious intelligence between Madrasah Aliyah and public school students. The study found a significant positive correlation between family religiosity and religious intelligence, with parental involvement being the most influential factor. Madrasah Aliyah students showed higher religious intelligence than public school students, attributed to the integrated religious curriculum and daily religious practices in madrasahs. Additionally, substantive religiosity, which includes faith, worship, and morals, significantly enhances religious intelligence, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach to religious education. The findings suggest that a synergistic approach between family and school is essential for fostering religious intelligence. Public schools should consider integrating more spiritual practices into their curricula. This research also emphasizes the need for educational policies that incorporate both cognitive and spiritual learning to nurture well-rounded, spiritually intelligent students. This study introduces a quantitative comparison of the influences of family and school religiosity, contributing new insights into how substantive religiosity shapes religious intelligence in Indonesian youth.

This research uses a qualitative approach through literature review and content analysis of Al-Khatîb's two main works: al-Jami' and al-Faqîh wa al-Mutafaqqih. Technical data analysis through data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. This study found that 1). the method of moral education of al-Khatîb al-Baghdâdî in his two works, namely Al-Jâmi' and Al-Faqîh found nine methods, namely the method of exemplary, habituation, advice, giving parables, stories / stories, lectures, asking questions, stimulation and threats, and the method of reward and punishment, and 2). These methods are still relevant to Islamic education in Indonesia, namely, these methods are still used and practiced, strengthen the science of Islamic education, can be developed and integrated with modern educational methods, emphasis on morals and the importance of manners, the application of morals in life, and the balance between the world and the hereafter.  The recommendations of this article offer actionable suggestions, including: the need to evaluate current Islamic teaching methods, improve educators' competence in delivering moral teaching, and encourage further research to assess the relevance and effectiveness of classical education models in the modern and digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning design utilizing the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework to enhance the self-regulated learning competence of fifth-grade students in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. The background of this research is rooted in the low level of students’ learning independence, as reflected in their lack of initiative, planning, task execution, and responsibility throughout the learning process. The study employed a Design-Based Research (DBR) approach through four stages: problem identification, solution design, limited implementation, and reflection with design revision. Data were collected triangulatively through questionnaires, observations, written interviews, documentation, and student performance assessments. The developed learning design follows the principles of backward design, focusing on four main aspects of self-regulated learning: initiative, planning, independent task completion, and learning responsibility. The trial results revealed that UbD-based learning had a positive impact on nurturing student independence in affective, cognitive, and psychomotor aspects. Observation data indicated an increase in students’ active engagement and sense of responsibility, while the project-based mini-booklets and reflective journals demonstrated their ability to plan and complete tasks independently. The study concludes that the UbD learning design is effective in supporting the development of students' self-regulated learning competence in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. This research offers practical contributions in designing contextual and character-oriented learning and reinforces the “Independent” dimension in the Pancasila Student Profile.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of the Bantuan Kinerja dan Afirmasi (BKBA) within the Madrasah Reform Program initiated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with the World Bank to improve the quality of governance and educational services in madrasahs. The study focuses on two madrasahs with distinct characteristics: MIS Assubkiyah in Rawalumbu, Bekasi (urban area) and Jamiyatul Usbuiyah in Pandeglang, Serang (rural area). The research employs a qualitative approach using a comparative case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews using purposive sampling techniques, and documentation. The data were then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, supported by source triangulation to ensure validity. The results indicate that BKBA management in both madrasahs covers the aspects of planning, implementation, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation. MIS Assubkiyah demonstrates more effective governance due to stronger human resources, higher digital literacy, and transformational leadership, whereas Jamiyatul Usbuiyah encounters limitations related to facilities and managerial capacity. Internal factors influencing the effectiveness of management include the leadership of the madrasah principal, team commitment, and work culture, while external factors involve assistance from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, technical support, and geographical conditions. The tangible impacts of the BKBA are reflected in the improvement of physical facilities, the modernization of digital learning, and enhanced transparency in financial governance. This study concludes that the effectiveness of BKBA management is strongly influenced by the application of Performance-Based Management principles, which emphasize transparency, accountability, and collective participation. Strengthening mentoring and digital management training is needed to ensure the sustainability of the program and its contribution to improving the quality of Islamic education.
