Abstract

Libraries need to continually adapt to technological developments in order to remain relevant to their users. The presence of the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) is expected to facilitate access to library collections. In 1998, the Universitas Islam Indonesia Library launched an OPAC called Simpus. As user needs grew, the library migrated to SLiMS 9 Bullian in September 2024, with the new OPAC named Simpustaka. System evaluation is necessary to assess performance, which can be measured through recall and precision tests. This study aims to compare the recall and precision of the old OPAC (Simpus) and the new OPAC (Simpustaka). This study uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach with samples selected from the most frequently searched subjects. Data was tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted to draw conclusions. The findings show that both OPACs demonstrate high effectiveness, with scores above 0.68. However, the new OPAC (Simpustaka) requires further optimization to maximize its usability for library users.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the implementation of the suggestopedia theory in increasing the concentration of readers at the National Press Monument Library in Surakarta. This research uses a qualitative descriptive study method through the concepts of suggestopology, library science, and interior design. It is intended to find out the extent to which the facilities in the National Press Monument Library in Surakarta can improve the concentration of readers based on the suggestopedia theory. This research uses data collection techniques in the form of observation, and fieldnote interviews to analyze the suggestopedia method in increasing the concentration of readers at the Surakarta Press Monument which is then analyzed using the data triangulation method. The results showed that the facilities in the library, be it spatial layout, room color or music facilities can increase comfort so that it affects the concentration power of the readers and is relevant to the theory of suggestopedia. The conclusion of this research shows that by applying the principles of suggestopedia, the library can be a place that supports and facilitates effective and enjoyable learning. The suggestion from the findings of this research is that other libraries should also apply the principles of suggestopedia to support the comfort of readers so that the number of library visitors can always continue to grow and provide an image that the library is a place worthy of being used as a place to explore knowledge.

Abstract

The Regional Library of Serdang Bedagai Regency is experiencing dynamic development that requires visionary leadership to meet the demands of the times. This study aims to analyze the implementation and challenges faced by the Head of the Regional Library in applying a visionary leadership style. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which involves data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the Head Librarian has successfully implemented a visionary leadership style in accordance with Robbins’ theory, which includes three main characteristics: a realistic vision, a credible vision, and an attractive vision. However, significant challenges remain, particularly the limited human resources who have not fully mastered information technology, as well as budget constraints. Nevertheless, the leader has been able to respond to these challenges with adaptive and collaborative strategies. This study concludes that visionary leadership plays an important role in transforming regional libraries into more modern, inclusive, and future-oriented institutions.

Abstract

The issue of plagiarism in academic works is a major concern in higher education as it can undermine academic integrity. This study aims to analyze the distribution of Turnitin results in academic library documents from various study programs at Universitas Nasional, Jakarta. Using a data visualization approach and machine learning algorithms, this research explores the relationship between Turnitin scores and document validity status. The methods used include data visualization through Scatter Plots, Violin Plots, and Box Plots, with these visualizations utilizing Orange Data Mining as the data processing method. Additionally, a logistic regression algorithm is applied to classify documents based on Turnitin scores. Furthermore, the Chi-Square statistical test is implemented to evaluate the significance of the relationship between Turnitin results and document validity status. The findings of this study indicate that Turnitin scores exhibit significant distribution differences among study programs, with notable disparities between valid and invalid documents. Documents from certain study programs tend to have dominant scores in the 20-50% range, which serves as a critical threshold in determining document validity. This study provides in-depth insights into the patterns of academic document validity and offers a data-driven approach to improving the quality of academic evaluation in higher education. Additionally, this research is expected to serve as a foundation for academic policies in strengthening plagiarism detection systems, increasing transparency in evaluation, and promoting the development of more accurate and efficient document validation methods. However, this study has limitations regarding the scope of data used, particularly in terms of study program representation and external factors that may influence Turnitin scores. Further research is needed to examine pedagogical aspects and academic policies that contribute to variations in Turnitin scores across different study programs.

Abstract

Rules are made to ensure everything goes as planned. But people sometimes break the rules. The Unpad Central Library has a problem with users returning books late. This study aims to understand how library users feel about late returns. This study uses a quantitative approach to test a theory and prove a hypothesis. Variable X is the users' attitude, while variable Y is the action of returning books late. A quota sampling method was used to select 100 samples from a population of 189 library users who borrowed collections in June 2024 and returned them late. The test results show that there is a moderate correlation between library users' attitudes and the act of returning collections late. Users of Grha Kandaga Unpad Central Library know the rules about returning books. This affects how they feel and judge situations where users are late. This makes them make decisions based on their attitudes. Through this research, the library can understand how users respond to late returns. This helps the library improve its strategies to prevent unauthorized borrowing, especially related to the late return of book collection.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the practice of digitizing undergraduate theses at the Library of Andalas University as part of the institutional repository development strategy. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews with three librarians and two students, as well as direct involvement of the researcher in the digitization workflow. The findings reveal that the digitization process has been systematically implemented through several stages, including collection identification, document scanning, file editing, metadata preparation, and uploading to the institutional repository scholar.unand.ac.id. The primary objectives of digitization include addressing the limitations of physical storage space, mitigating structural risks caused by geographical conditions, and expanding access to students’ scholarly works. Nevertheless, several challenges persist, such as the absence of formal university-level policies, outdated equipment, technical difficulties in handling large file sizes, and limited staff training. From the user perspective, difficulties were found in slow self-upload processes, unreadable files, and suboptimal search accuracy. Based on these findings, this study emphasizes that evaluating digitization practices not only provides an overview of achievements and obstacles but also generates strategic recommendations for further development. These recommendations include integrating digitization into official university policies, upgrading technological infrastructure, and enhancing staff capacity to ensure that the institutional repository can function optimally as a sustainable medium for preservation and scholarly dissemination.
