Abstract

A quality library collection supported by adequate services serves to expand the scope of knowledge, enhance independent thinking skills, integrate knowledge with reality, and promote the improvement of the cultural quality of its users. This means that the collection functions to enhance the quality of student graduates and support the realization of UII as rahmatan lil’alamin. The depth level of the collection is clearly mapped so that development goals and targets can be achieved. The conspectus method is an appropriate method used to evaluate collections related to the conditions surrounding the Library Division of FBE UII. This qualitative research uses a list-checking approach with the conspectus method. The population is the collection of printed books in the field of management, with instruments such as conspectus profiles, conspectus worksheets, and interview guidelines. The assessment was conducted by two evaluators from the management department faculty members. The collection is mapped in numerical levels using a ten-point scale or continuum from 0 if the library does not collect collections in a particular subject to 5 for collections at a comprehensive level. The evaluation results indicate a gap in the collection level of 8 levels between the lowest and highest levels. The gap in the average level of collection depth is based on the current collection category with an acquisition commitment of 0.57, an acquisition commitment with a collection goal of 1.86, and a current collection with a collection goal of 2.43.

Abstract

This research analyzes the preferences of Sunan Ampel Surabaya State Islamic University (UINSA) students towards digital libraries and their influence on literacy culture. Using a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, this research explores students' experiences in accessing digital libraries. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, with purposively selected participants. The results showed that the digital library infrastructure at UINSA is adequate, but still needs improvement in accessibility, content relevance, and ease of use. Students' preferences are influenced by convenience, academic needs, and time efficiency, which have an impact on the intensity of their use. Strengthening the culture of literacy requires synergy between library managers, lecturers, and students through academic literacy programs. This research provides recommendations for optimizing digital libraries in supporting literacy culture in Islamic universities

Abstract

This study aims to examine the dynamics of literacy in rural communities and to understand how people perceive and experience literacy practices in their daily lives in Padang Sipirok Village. Literacy is a fundamental ability that plays an important role in improving the quality of human resources and supporting the development of community knowledge. However, literacy levels in rural communities still face several challenges, particularly related to access to information sources and the availability of literacy facilities. This condition can also be found in the community of Padang Sipirok Village, where social and cultural characteristics influence how people understand and utilize literacy in their daily activities. This research employed a qualitative, phenomenological approach to explore the community's subjective experiences regarding literacy. The findings show that the community’s understanding of literacy extends beyond reading and writing skills to include the ability to obtain and understand information from various sources. The community accesses information through social interaction, smartphones, and social media. Furthermore, literacy plays an important role in the social life of rural communities, particularly in increasing knowledge, broadening perspectives, and supporting decision-making in everyday life. Therefore, strengthening rural community literacy requires supporting the development of literacy facilities and sustainable literacy programs.

Abstract

Libraries, as centers of relevant information, provide various types of collections that can be utilized by patrons, including fiction collections. Fiction collections in libraries not only serve to expand knowledge and increase reading interest but also serve as a source of entertainment. This highlights the role of libraries as a recreational resource for their users. Therefore, school libraries should provide fiction collections in addition to textbooks. The presence of fiction collections in school libraries is expected to encourage an increase in student visitation. This study aims to analyze the availability of fiction collections and the level of student visitation at Ksatrya 51 High School Library in Jakarta. This study employs a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. Data analysis involves descriptive statistics, including calculations of means, percentages, and frequency distributions using IBM SPSS version 22 software. Data were collected via a questionnaire distributed to 86 respondents using probability sampling, specifically simple random sampling. The results indicate a mutually supportive relationship between the availability of fiction collections and patrons’ interest in visiting the library, where diverse and high-quality collections can increase user interest, and are supported by a conducive library environment that reinforces the decision to visit.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation strategy of the Community Reading Center (Taman Bacaan Masyarakat/TBM) Gada Membaca in Ciamis Regency based on a social inclusion approach. The research employed a qualitative case study design using interviews, observations, and documentation as data collection techniques. The study focuses on community needs analysis, the implementation of social inclusion-based transformation strategies, and the evaluation and sustainability challenges of TBM programs. The findings indicate that community needs extend beyond access to reading materials to include alternative learning spaces, literacy assistance, and inclusive social interaction spaces. The implementation of the transformation strategy is carried out in a participatory manner involving managers, volunteers, village government, and the local community, enabling programs to be tailored to local needs. However, program sustainability remains challenged by limited human resources, modest facilities, and dependence on volunteers. This study highlights that TBM Gada Membaca has transformed into a community-based learning space grounded in social inclusion, but requires strengthened management and sustained support to ensure long-term effectiveness

Abstract

Ancient manuscripts are cultural heritage that has high historical value and is prone to damage, so it requires planned and sustainable preservation efforts. The Lampung Provincial State Museum as a preservation institution stores 47 ancient manuscripts with a variety of organic writing media that require physical and informational preservation. This study aims to examine the implementation of preventive preservation of all ancient manuscripts in the museum and identify the obstacles faced. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that preventive preservation efforts are carried out through housekeeping nature disaster preparedness plan activities, transfer of information and cooperative action or the use of technology on a large scale. These efforts include regular cleaning of the environment, temperature and lighting regulation, storage of collections in special cabinets, use of acid-free boxes and silica gel to protect manuscripts. Of the 47 manuscripts owned, as many as 29 manuscripts have been transmediated into digital format and can be accessed by the public through the Opus Lampung page. However, preservation activities have not run optimally due to limited digitization facilities and infrastructure, the lack of human resources in the field of preservation, and the characteristics of manuscripts that are very vulnerable to changes in environmental conditions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse students' perceptions of literacy improvement programs at Darul Arafah Raya Islamic Boarding School. Literacy programs implemented by the Pesantren include literacy competitions, a mobile cart library, and reading corners. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach to explore students' experiences, responses, and participation in literacy activities. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving 8 informants consisting of 5 junior high school students and 3 library managers selected through a purposive sampling technique. The findings indicate that literacy programs have been implemented systematically and continuously; however, students' participation remains relatively low. Students perceptions toward literacy programs vary into positive and less positive perceptions. Positive perceptions are influenced by reading interest, attractive literacy activities, and perceived benefits such as increased knowledge and learning experiences. Meanwhile, low reading interest, boredom, and limited book variety contribute to lower participation. The study concludes that students' perceptions significantly influence their involvement in literacy programs. Therefore, literacy activities in Islamic boarding schools should be designed more attractively, contextually, and aligned with students' interests to improve participation and foster a literacy culture.

Abstract

This study aims to describe Tidar University students’ assessment of the service quality of a digital library application as part of technology-based public services. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed to analyze the perceptions of 96 respondents using the five SERVQUAL dimensions, namely tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. The results indicate that most students gave positive assessments of the application, particularly in terms of interface design, clarity of collection information, ease of navigation, and data security. However, several issues were identified, including inconsistent information updates, access disruptions, and uneven technical support. Overall, the application is considered sufficiently effective in supporting students’ academic needs, although improvements are still required in system stability, response speed, and feature development to better accommodate users’ needs across different study programs. These findings are expected to provide an empirical basis for library managers in designing more adaptive and sustainable digital service improvements.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Senayan Library Management System (SLiMS) in bibliographic data digitization to enhance information retrieval services at the Library of the Polytechnic of Furniture Industry and Wood Processing. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observation of Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) usage, and documentation. Informants consisted of library staff and students as primary users. The findings indicate that implementing SLiMS improves the effectiveness of information retrieval compared to the previous manual system, as reflected in easier online access to collections, faster retrieval times, and users’ independence in locating materials. The OPAC enables users to search by title, author, and subject quickly and accurately. However, several challenges remain, including interface design, mobile compatibility, and the completeness of bibliographic metadata, all of which affect the user experience. The implementation also contributes to more efficient collection management and improved library service quality. This study recommends optimizing the user interface, enhancing bibliographic metadata, and strengthening staff competencies to ensure the sustainability of automated library services
