Abstract

Indonesia is the second most active user of the TikTok application in the first quarter of 2022 because it spends an average of 23.1 hours per month on TikTok. The use of time by the user should not be wasted and can produce benefits in the form of information according to the facts. This research uses participatory media culture theory which explains the ways in which new media culture offers audiences to jointly take on the role of media consumers and media producers at the same time. The media in this research is the TikTok application. The research method is a quantitative research method which aims to show the relationship between the influence of the use of the TikTok application as variable This research includes quantitative data collection, analysis, and statistical testing. With a population of 326 people, a sample of 77 people was taken using the Slovin formula. Data was obtained by distributing closed questionnaires using a Likert scale. The results of the research show that there is an influence of the use of the TikTok application on student information literacy, namely 54.0%, meaning that the influence of the independent variable, namely the use of the TikTok application, on student information literacy is 54.0% while the remainder is (100% - 54.0%) is 46% influenced by other variables outside this research. The R-Square value of 54% is included in the moderate category, meaning that the influence of using the TikTok application on student information literacy depends on the individual user's use of the application.

Abstract

Newspaper clipping preservation prevents collections from damage so that they can last a long time and still be used by future generations. Newspaper clippings from the CSIS (Centre for Strategic and International Studies) collection have the advantage of containing more authentic and primary information, and they have been arranged based on specific subjects, making it easier for users. This study aimed to determine the preservation of newspaper clippings from the CSIS collection at the National Library using the preservation pyramid. The method used was qualitative with a case study approach. The study results showed that the National Library had carried out preservation activities that included preventive preservation, passive conservation, active conservation, and restoration per the preservation pyramid. Preservation efforts carried out were in the form of compiling preservation policies, preventing damage to collections due to environmental and human factors, training for librarians, managing the storage environment in the form of air conditioning and curtains, binding, and fumigation in 2 collection rooms owned by the National Library. However, restoration has not been implemented because the condition of the collection is still quite good, although there is a risk of damage to clippings that have not been processed, so a policy is needed to continue the preservation of newspaper clippings from the CSIS collection.

Abstract

Tourism activities are one of Indonesia's advantages in the creative economy sector. Villages that have tourism potential and even tourism activities are referred to as tourist villages. In carrying out tourism activities, the management of both the government and the Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis) need to develop strategies to attract many tourists. Local culture is an unavoidable part of tourism activities in tourist villages. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing how the tourism development process in the Desa Wisata Edukasi Cisaat Ciater includes what tourism potential, principles of implementing culture-based tourism activities, public knowledge about culture and cultural tourism, cultural inheritance through culture experience, how cultural literacy plays a role in tourism and activities in Desa Wisata Edukasi Cisaat Ciater. The method used in this research is a qualitative research method with a case study. The results of this research show that Desa Wisata Edukasi Cisaat Ciater does not recognize the term cultural literacy, but in fact what has been implemented is cultural literacy. The selection of cultural tourism is used as an effort to preserve culture, develop local communities, including in terms of the economy, and increase tourist visits to Desa Wisata Edukasi Cisaat Ciater.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the utilization of digital collections (e-books) as a source of information at the Library UPT of Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar and the challenges faced in their utilization. The study adopts a descriptive approach with a qualitative method. Primary data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation from 2 librarians and 10 library users. Data processing and analysis techniques involved data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the utilization of digital collections (e-books) at the Library UPT of Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar has been implemented. There are 435 active members and a total of 7,800 readers utilizing the library's digital collection (e-books). Factors influencing the utilization of digital collections (e-books) include user needs, user interest, and the completeness of the collection. The digital collection (e-books) have significantly contributed to supporting academic tasks and thesis writing, providing easy access without restrictions of time and space. With a collection of 1,764 digital titles, the information needs of users are well fulfilled through the provided digital collection (e-books). More library users utilize digital collections (e-books) compared to printed books. However, challenges faced by users in the utilization of digital collections (e-books) include a lack of promotion by the library to users, inadequate network infrastructure, and a time-consuming registration process. To enhance the utilization of digital collections (e-books), the library needs to improve effective promotion to users, address network issues, and expedite and simplify the registration process. By taking these steps, it is expected that users will find it easier and more convenient to utilize the digital collection (e-books) as a source of information at the Library UPT of Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar.

Abstract

Leaders are responsible for the organization's progress based on the vision, mission, and goals of the organization they lead. This paper analyzes the leadership style of female library heads using the theory of Behavioral Mahakumaran. A leader will be a role model or example for librarians under him. The leadership style also determines the direction of the library's goals. The purpose of this study is to describe the leadership style of female head librarians at the Bali International Polytechnic Library. This type of research is field research. The data collection techniques used are observation, documentation, and interviews. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using the theory of behavioral Mahakumaran. The results of this study show that the Head of the Bali International Polytechnic Library has a leadership style that combines authoritative, affiliative, democratic, and coaching.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected all walks of life, including college libraries which have made their services migrate online by utilizing social media. Instagram has become a common platform used by college libraries to interact with users during the Covid-19 pandemic. Tarumanagara University Library Services in the field of Psychology is one of the libraries in the university environment that uses Instagram media to serve its users. This study aims to photograph how users interact on the library's Instagram account. This research can be categorized as quantitative descriptive to get accurate results with statistical data. Content analysis was conducted to determine content categories based on their objectives. The results of this study indicate that during the pandemic it was found that there were 276 post content, most of which were photos. The average likes per post is only 10, while the number of comments from all posts is only 54. The dominant content category is literary exhibition, which is a content category with the aim of informing collections, references and technical service manuals.

Abstract

The library is a professional work environment where library personnel are engaged in static and repetitive activities, which pose a risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) that can affect staff well-being and service quality. This study addresses the issue of occupational health among library staff from an ergonomic perspective, focusing on the risk of musculoskeletal complaints resulting from static workloads and suboptimal working postures. The study aims to describe the characteristics of library personnel at the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Library, identify the level of MSD complaints, analyze the relationship between ergonomic risk factors (sitting duration, working hours, and body mass index) and MSDs, and examine the implications for human resource management policies in libraries to improve information service quality. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, a case study method, and the Nordic Body Map questionnaire administered to 32 library staff, data were analyzed using Spearman correlation tests. The results show that working hours (p=0.009; r=0.456), sitting duration (p=0.044; r=0.359), and body mass index (p=0.043; r=0.360) have significant correlations with MSD complaints, which are most commonly reported in the upper neck, lower back, and right shoulder areas. These findings highlight the urgency for library management to integrate ergonomic principles into human resource management policies, including workspace design, task scheduling, and occupational health programs. Optimizing the physical health of library personnel not only helps reduce MSDs but also enhances productivity, job satisfaction, and the overall quality of information services in modern libraries.

Abstract

Tinjauan literatur ini membahas dampak pertumbuhan teknologi informasi dan media sosial terhadap perilaku Generasi Z (Gen-Z) dalam mengonsumsi dan menyebarkan informasi, khususnya terkait berita disinformasi di platform media sosial. Fokusnya adalah pada pengaruh literasi informasi terhadap kemampuan analisis kritis Gen-Z dalam menilai keabsahan berita. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki perilaku informasi dan strategi melawan disinformasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis kualitatif terhadap literatur yang relevan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa meskipun Gen-Z cenderung terhubung erat dengan media sosial dan memiliki kemampuan kritis dalam memilah informasi, mereka juga rentan terhadap penyebaran berita palsu. Strategi pendidikan literasi digital yang terfokus dan kolaboratif menjadi penting dalam membangun ketahanan terhadap informasi palsu di kalangan Gen-Z. Kemampuan analisis media sosial dan pemahaman terhadap dinamika berita disinformasi diperlukan untuk memerangi penyebaran informasi palsu.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the strategic role of Taman Bacaan Masyarakat (TBM) Samera Indonesia in improving the literacy of study group children aged 8–12 years in Desa Tuntungan I, Kecamatan Pancur Batu, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings show that the TBM does not merely provide access to reading materials but also functions as a social learning space that fosters critical thinking, communication, and information processing skills. Activities such as shared reading, book discussions, and basic literacy training support the four key pillars of information literacy: recognizing information needs, seeking, using, and evaluating information independently. This approach aligns with the Seven Faces of Information Literacy framework and the concept of literacy as a social practice. Despite challenges such as limited facilities and low parental involvement, TBM Samera Indonesia has proven effective in building a community-based literacy culture. The study recommends cross-sectoral support to strengthen institutional capacity and ensure the sustainability of literacy programs responsive to local needs.

Abstract

Preserving manuscripts is crucial to maintaining a nation's cultural heritage and historical knowledge. Manuscript collections have a high risk of damage, and preservation is the primary responsibility of various parties, including libraries. Although several studies have been carried out regarding preserving manuscripts in Indonesia, research has yet to examine this trend globally. Therefore, this study uses bibliometric analysis to explore the development of research trends regarding the preservation of manuscripts in libraries. The research was carried out on November 14, 2023, by searching the Scopus database using the keywords preservation, manuscript, and library. Data were analyzed using the VOSViewer application to determine a bibliometric map of research developments regarding the preservation of manuscripts in libraries. The research results show that (1) there are 134 publications on manuscript preservation in libraries tend to increase, (2) overview of research trends in the preservation of manuscripts in libraries divided into clusters of manuscripts, historic preservation, and digitization, (3) The United States is the most productive country in international publications, (4) the University of Indonesia is the most contributive institution in international publications, and (5) topics such as historical documents, digital storage, deterioration can be researched in the future. This research will provide insight into research topics that can be explored further.
