Abstract

One of the skills needed in learning mathematics is the ability to solve mathematical problems. In solving problems in mathematics learning, mathematical representation is needed by students in the problem solving process. Students tend to use mathematical representations, but sometimes they don't understand what they are doing. In general, mathematical representations also play an important role in improving mathematical competence. Beside the ability of representation, students also have intelligence, including mathematical logical intelligence, linguistics and visual spatial. This research is descriptive with qualitative approach that aimed to describe the complete mathematical representation of vocational high school students in solving a quadratic equation in terms. The research phase begins with the selection of research subjects were determined by gender and math skills test results were similar. Having chosen the subject and the continuation of the problem solving quadratic equations and interviews. The validity of the data using a triangulation of time that is giving the task of solving a quadratic equation are equal at different times. The results of this study as the mathematic description shows that vocational high school students in solving quadratic equations problem according to Polya step problem solving

Abstract

The mathematical problem solving ability is important for students to solve problems in mathematics learning. The purpose of this study was analyzed the difference in improvement of mathematical problem solving ability between students who use STAD type of cooperative learning model and direct teaching. This type research is experimental research with a quantitative appoarch. The subjects in this study were eighth-grade students of the SMP Kalam Kudus Ambon in the first semester of the 2019/2020 academic calendar, which consisted of two classes. Methods of data collection through an Initial Ability Mathematics test and a mathematical problem solving ability test. The result showed that there was a difference increase in ability of problem solving between students who obtain learning by using the STAD type cooperative learning models and direct teaching

Abstract

This Research aims to identify the application of saintific approaches of 2013 curriculum in mathematics learning process which is TCL (Teacher Centered Learning). This is a qualitative research. Data collecting technique of this research was using instrument of observation of the learning process, interview conducted to the teacher and also students and documentation in the form of video recording during learning. The data analysis technique that used in this research was qualitative descriptive analysis. Based on the results of this research we identified a scientific approach second activities Asking (M2) then devided again into 6 indicators and 22 descriptors. At the first learning was obtain 5 indicators and 8 descriptors during the learning process. Then at the second learning was obtain 6 indicators and 15 descriptors during the learning process.

Abstract

Mathematical problems are often solved without using conventional methods but using intuition thinking. Intuitive thinking is a cognitive process that leads to ideas as strategies for making decisions that produce spontaneous answers in solving problems. Spontaneous answers are written and spoken expressions that help a person solve math problems without using analytical thinking. This study aims to describe the various forms of intuition that arise when students solve math problems. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method to describe students' intuitive thinking processes through test instruments and interviews. The results showed that the form of intuitive thinking that emerged was (1) affirmatory intuition, namely direct cognition to understand the problem and (2) perceptual and global components, because students made perceptions of the answer solutions to be generated, then resolved until they got the results. In addition, it was also found that intuitive thinking that is raised as a strategy in making decisions is based on feelings, intrinsics and interventions to produce answers to solving the problems faced

Abstract

Abstract

The ability Mathematical representation is very important for students to have, because it can facilitate students in solving mathematical problems. This study aims to describe the ability of mathematical representation of class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Padang. The results showed that 82.7% of students used visual representations, 38% of students used representations of Equation or mathematical expressions and 23.3% of students used representations of words or written texts. The highest indicator of visual representation is to draw geometric figures to clarify the problem and facilitate its solution, while the lowest indicator of the representation of words or written text is to write the steps to solve mathematical problems with words
