Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of diorama media in introducing traffic signs to elementary school students through a qualitative descriptive approach. Twenty-five fourth graders from an elementary school in Bandung were observed through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. Results show that diorama-based learning increased students’ recognition of traffic signs from 35% to 85% and fostered active participation and collaboration. Students better understood the meaning and context of traffic symbols while demonstrating improved traffic discipline. The use of dioramas made abstract concepts tangible, aligning with Constructivist Learning Theory and Dual Coding Theory. This approach proved effective in enhancing conceptual understanding, engagement, and value formation. It is recommended that teachers receive training in diorama-based learning and explore augmented reality integration for future applications

Abstract

Abstract

This classroom action research addresses elementary students’ low narrative writing performance, particularly in idea development, text structure, and mechanics. Interactive digital comics were implemented as a visual-textual scaffold to support story planning and narrative construction. The study involved 25 sixth graders at SDN Wangunrejo 01 and was conducted in two cycles (planning, action, observation, reflection). Data were collected through narrative writing tests, classroom observations, brief interviews, and documentation. Quantitative scores were analyzed descriptively, while qualitative process data were examined through triangulation. Results indicate a steady improvement in the mean score from 56.8 (pre-action) to 70.4 (Cycle I) and 82.6 (Cycle II). Students demonstrated better story ideas, more coherent plot organization, improved cohesion, and more accurate spelling and punctuation. Increased motivation, engagement, and willingness to share ideas were also observed. The findings suggest that interactive digital comics effectively function as an idea generator and structural scaffold for narrative writing in primary education.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the fictional story writing skills of third-grade elementary school students through the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) assisted by a Pop Up Story Book. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were 24 third-grade students of SDN Rejoagung 01, Trangkil District, Pati Regency. Data were collected through fictional story writing tests, classroom activity observations, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive quantitative methods by calculating the percentages and mean scores achieved in each cycle, supported by qualitative analysis to interpret the dynamics of the learning process and changes in students’ learning behaviors. The results demonstrated a consistent improvement in students’ fictional writing skills, increasing from 59% in the pre-cycle to 71% in Cycle I and reaching 89% in Cycle II. Improvements were observed in several aspects, including content quality, completeness of story structure, accuracy of diction and sentence construction, correct use of spelling, and the utilization of references in story development. The implementation of PjBL encouraged students to plan, draft, revise, and present their written products systematically, while the Pop Up Story Book functioned as an idea stimulator and visual support that enriched plot development and character depiction. These findings confirm that Project Based Learning assisted by a Pop Up Story Book is effective in enhancing students’ creativity, collaboration, and learning responsibility in Indonesian language instruction at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Literacy Smart Board as an interactive learning medium to improve students’ understanding of sentence structure in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level. The research addresses an educational challenge commonly found in early-grade classrooms, namely students’ limited comprehension of basic sentence components due to predominantly conventional and teacher-centered instructional practices. The study was conducted with 33 second-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Banjarejo using a descriptive qualitative approach, supported by quantitative data obtained from pre- and post-learning assessments. Data collection techniques included classroom observation, documentation of students’ learning outcomes, and analysis of learning activities during the implementation of the Literacy Smart Board. The findings reveal that prior to the intervention, 13 students (39.4%) experienced difficulties in identifying sentence elements such as subjects, predicates, and objects. After the use of the Literacy Smart Board, the number of students with learning difficulties decreased to 3 students (9.1%), indicating an improvement of 30.3% in students’ understanding of sentence structure. These results demonstrate that the interactive, visual, and concrete features of the Literacy Smart Board significantly enhance student engagement, learning motivation, and grammatical comprehension. This study contributes to the field of educational technology by providing empirical evidence on the effective use of interactive literacy media in primary education. Moreover, the findings offer practical implications for teachers, particularly in rural or resource-limited schools, by presenting an accessible instructional innovation to improve Indonesian language learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of students’ interest in learning chemistry, particularly in the topic of carbon compounds and macromolecules, which are often perceived as abstract, complex, and difficult to understand. Such perceptions frequently lead to passive learning behavior and limited conceptual engagement. To address this issue, an instructional innovation was implemented through the use of chemical qasidah media, which integrates elements of art, local culture, and religiosity into the chemistry learning process. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two iterative cycles involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 30 eleventh-grade science students at MA NU Tasywiquth Thullab Salafiyah (TBS) Kudus during the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected using a validated learning interest questionnaire, structured observation sheets, and supporting documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using percentage techniques, while qualitative data were examined through reflective analysis. The findings revealed a consistent increase in students’ learning interest, rising from 56% in the pre-cycle (moderate category) to 71% in the first cycle (sufficient category), and reaching 84% in the second cycle (high category). The improvement was particularly evident in students’ attention, participation, and enthusiasm during learning activities. These results indicate that the integration of chemical qasidah as a culturally responsive and affective-based learning medium is effective in enhancing students’ interest in learning complex chemistry concepts
