Abstract

Buzz marketing, a fabricated type of word-of-mouth was used by Carasun, an Indonesian sunscreen brand, in February 2022. The brand received a backlash after Indonesian netizens found them using buzz marketing to turn down an upcoming sunscreen product from another brand, Skin Game. As the unethical tactic became viral on Twitter and Instagram, many of Carasun’s consumers and social media users criticised it, and some also said to blacklist the brand. Past studies showed brand scandals can have negative effects on consumers’ expectations, reputation, sales, brand equity, buying motivations, and marketing effectiveness. Research on the impact of the brand scandal on consumers was conducted using the survey method to determine their attitude and purchase intention towards Carasun post-scandal. Respondents were 106 Indonesian skincare users aged 15 to 34 who were aware of the Carasun issue. This research revealed the scandal does not impact both consumers' attitudes and purchase intentions. Most respondents were aware of the scandal (95.3%) and agreed that the scandal is a serious issue (81.1%). However, their attitudes, specifically, their beliefs and feelings about Carasun, remained positive. There was a possibility that respondents rejected the unfavourable brand news and preferred to remain purchasing the brands because of the usefulness and benefit that can be obtained from these brands.

Abstract

This study explores the importance of premarital counseling in the context of Indonesian marriage law, with a focus on preparing prospective couples for a happy and healthy married life. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews with couples who had participated in premarital counseling. The results showed that premarital counseling plays an important role in equipping couples with knowledge about effective communication, conflict management, reproductive health, and rights and obligations in marriage. This finding is supported by previous research that shows a positive relationship between premarital readiness and long-term marital success. The mentorship program is based on a strong legal framework, including Law No. 1/1974 on Marriage and Minister of Religious Affairs Regulation No. 20/2019. However, the implementation of premarital guidance faces challenges, such as limited facilities and manpower at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) and differences in the quality of the program across regions. In addition, cultural and social barriers affect the acceptance and effectiveness of this guidance. This study emphasizes the importance of adjusting the guidance program to better consider local customs and culture. Thus, premarital guidance is expected to reduce divorce rates and improve the quality of marriages by preparing prospective couples for the challenges of married life. The findings provide important insights for policy makers and practitioners to improve the quality and accessibility of premarital guidance in Indonesia.

Abstract

The phenomenon of dawn attacks in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections in Indonesia is in the main spotlight because of the practice of money politics which threatens the integrity and public trust in the democratic process. This research uses a normative juridical approach to analyze the dawn attacks from the perspective of Islamic law and Indonesian positive law. Data was collected through literature studies involving laws, Islamic legal literature, as well as previous research. The results of the research show that the majority of people believe that there are no dawn attacks, although some segments of society still believe in the practice. According to Islamic law, dawn attacks are categorized as haram bribery (risywah), while in Indonesian law, this practice is prohibited under Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections. Analysis shows that strict law enforcement, comprehensive political education, and the use of technology such as e-voting are important steps to eradicate dawn attacks. Active participation from the public, political parties and candidates is very necessary to create fair, transparent and democratic elections. The conclusions of this research emphasize the importance of collaboration between various parties to ensure election integrity and prevent the practice of money politics that undermines democracy. Keywords: Dawn attack, money politics, election integrity, risywah, law enforcement.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the perceptions of UIN SATU students towards the use of social media, especially YouTube, as a means of improving speaking and listening skills. This study uses a quantitative approach with survey method to measure the perceptions of UIN SATU students towards the use of YouTube as a learning tool. A 5-point Likert scale was used to assess respondents' perceptions of how much they consider YouTube to be helpful in improving their speaking and listening skills. To ensure that this research instrument is reliable, a Cronbach's Alpha reliability test was conducted, where the expected value is ? 0.70, indicating good internal consistency. The Cronbach's Alpha values for the various aspects measured, such as perceptions of speaking ability (0.82), listening ability (0.85), frequency of YouTube use (0.78), and challenges of the use of YouTube faced (0.73), the results are all above the 0.70, meaning that this instrument is reliable for measuring students' perceptions. Most UIN SATU students have a positive perception of the use of YouTube as a means of improving speaking and listening skills, providing content that helps them improve pronunciation, intonation, and comprehension. YouTube is considered an effective medium for independent language learning, as students can access a wide variety of content at any time. The flexibility in choosing the time and topic of learning makes YouTube an ideal resource for students who want to improve their language skills in a practical way. However, it was also found that they face challenges in filtering irrelevant content and maintaining consistency in using YouTube for learning.
