Abstract

This research aims to analyze public perceptions regarding coastal conservation areas in Sumalata District, North Gorontalo Regency. Conservation areas have an important role in protecting marine ecosystems, but effective management requires the support of coastal communities. This research uses survey and interview methods to explore the community's understanding of the benefits, challenges and their role in managing conservation areas. The research results show that community attitudes towards area conservation are generally positive, with a good understanding of the importance of conservation. In addition, the public's awareness of marine conservation regulations is high, especially regarding the implementation of protection regulations which have a direct impact on their daily activities. This research recommends increasing education and active community involvement in the management of conservation areas as an effort to increase the effectiveness of marine conservation in Sumalata District, North Gorontalo Regency.

Abstract

Indonesia is the sixth largest cotton importer and the ninth largest cotton user in the world. Therefore, efforts are needed to form new superior varieties, starting with determining the performance of cotton as a candidate for the formation of new superior varieties.This research aims to obtain cotton seeds for seed multiplication the following year, producing good brown cotton performance based on agronomic characteristics and the best type of organic fertilizer in increasing the growth of cotton plants. This study was conducted at the KP. Faculty of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, Muhammadiyah University of Parepare from June to October 2023. This study used a randomized block design with five repetitions. The treatments used were 4 types of fertilizers, namely chemical fertilizers, cocoa shell waste compost, goat manure compost, and Eco Glasum organic fertilizer. Thus, there were 20 experimental units. The observation parameters observed and measured were plant height (cm), number of leaves (strands), number of generative branches, pollen phenotype and cotton stomata, and age of flower blooming (DAP). Observation data were processed using the SAS 9.0 and Minitab 14 applications. The results showed that agronomic characters were not significantly different except for the number of leaves. The type of eco glasum fertilizer showed the best performance for the characters of plant height, leaf greenness, number of flowers, number of flowers blooming. Direct selection using scatterplot shows the best eco glasum fertilizer on the character relationship between the number of flowers vs. leaf greenness (R = 0.049 + 2.305X) and the number of flowers vs. plant height (R = 1.427 + 36.57X). Eco Glasum is a modification of solid fertilizer consisting of three types of seaweed, namelyEucheuma cottoni, Glacilaria sp., Sargasum sp. and modified by the addition of natural ZPT (Plant Growth Regulators) which are then fermented.

Abstract

Ekosistem Pesisir merupakan daerah peralihan antara daratan dan laut, mencakup pantai, hutan bakau, padang lamun, dan terumbu karang. Pesisir berperan penting sebagai tempat hidup banyak makhluk, termasuk tumbuhan, hewan, dan manusia. Kegiatan edukasi lingkungan pesisir bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan kepedulian generasi muda terhadap pentingnya menjaga ekosistem laut. Program ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 24 Oktober 2024 di SMP Negeri 1 Gorontalo menggunakan metode pendekatan partisipatif yaitu ceramah dan diskusi interaktif. Peserta didik berjumlah 34 orang dan diperkenalkan pada konsep dasar ekosistem laut, ancaman yang dihadapi, dan langkah-langkah dalam mendukung pariwisata berkelanjutan di Kawasan pesisir. Berdasarkan hasil post test menunjukkan bahwa terjadinya peningkatan pemahaman peserta didik terhadap peranan ekosistem laut bagi kehidupan serta komitmennya dalam menerapkan perilaku ramah. Edukasi ini mampu berperan sebagai Langkah awal guna menciptakan generasi muda yang lebih peduli dan berperan aktif dalam pelestarian lingkungan pesisir.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi informasi yang pesat menuntut mahasiswa, khususnya di bidang pendidikan ekonomi, untuk memiliki kompetensi literasi digital yang mumpuni. Literasi digital menjadi kemampuan dasar yang penting dalam kegiatan akademik, pembelajaran, maupun persiapan menghadapi dunia kerja. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam memanfaatkan teknologi digital secara efektif, kritis, dan etis. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan melalui pendekatan pelatihan interaktif yang melibatkan presentasi materi, simulasi, diskusi, dan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap konsep literasi digital, termasuk keamanan digital, pencarian informasi, pengelolaan data, serta pemanfaatan perangkat lunak produktivitas. Kegiatan ini diharapkan menjadi awal dari rangkaian pelatihan berkelanjutan dalam mendukung transformasi digital di lingkungan pendidikan tinggi.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and formulate effective strategies in octopus fisheries in Pulau Sembilan District. The approach used in this study is qualitative, with descriptive analysis and case studies on octopus fisheries business actors in the area. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with fishermen, entrepreneurs, others, as well as field observations, literature reviews, and related parties. The results of the study indicate that octopus fisheries in Pulau Sembilan District have great potential but face several challenges, including market price fluctuations, technological limitations, and problems in resource management and marketing. SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis revealed that the main strengths are self-made and easily obtained fishing gear and profitable fishing efforts, while weaknesses include the low bargaining position of fishermen. Development opportunities include the availability of octopus market demand, while threats include fluctuating catch volumes and the entry of fishing fleets from other areas that use environmentally unfriendly tools. The recommended development strategy includes optimizing fishing groups and developing fishing gear that supports fishing activities to ensure business sustainability. The implementation of this strategy is expected to increase the productivity, income and welfare of the fishing community in Pulau Sembilan District

Abstract

This scientific writing training was designed to enhance the ability of students in the Department of Economic Education at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo to produce systematic and argumentative academic papers. The program employed a quantitative approach through a practice-based training method, emphasizing the structure of scientific writing, the use of academic language, and proper referencing techniques, aligned with the scientific writing guidelines of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. The implementation process comprised a planning phase, a series of intensive training sessions, and an evaluation of students’ written outputs. Descriptive quantitative analysis was used, incorporating observation sheets and assessments of the students' writing products. The results showed significant improvements in the structure of writing, the use of formal academic language, and the accuracy of citations. Overall, the program was found to be effective in developing fundamental scientific writing skills. It is recommended that similar initiatives be conducted on a sustainable basis, complemented by ongoing mentoring sessions and periodic evaluations.

Abstract

The freshwater fishing business in Lake Tempe is the main livelihood for the coastal societies around Lake Tempe. In recent years, there have been floods due to the overflow of Lake Tempe, which caused losses to fishermen. One of the causes is the high sedimentation every year. The lake revitalization program is the way to solve this problem. The revitalization process provides social and economic changes to the society in the Lake Tempe area It has an impact on improving the economy of fishermen's households. This research aimed to analyze the financial feasibility of freshwater fishing based on the fishing gear used, namely gill nets, longlines, and traps. This research was carried out on the coast of Lake Tempe, namely Tempe, Sabbangparu, Tanasitolo, and Belawa Districts in Wajo Regency from March to June 2022. The researchers chose the location in a purposive way. This research is survey research. Data analysis used financial analysis by looking at the net present value (NPV), Net Benefit Cost (net B/C), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Payback Period (PP). The results showed that the large profits obtained from the catching freshwater fish business in Lake Tempe using gill nets were 13,526,859 (IRD) per year, then the longline fishing gear gains a profit of 10,557,023 (IRD), and for fishing traps gear, the profit is7,548,808 (IRD). The acquisition of each financial analysis obtained by NPV>0, net B/C>1, IRR>the applicable interest rate is 5%, and the payback period is less than 5 years. Therefore, it concluded that these three types of fishing gear are feasible to be developed.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the channels, margins, costs, and efficiency of octopus marketing in Pulau Sembilan District, Sinjai Regency. The study was conducted in 2023 using a qualitative descriptive method supported by simple quantitative analysis. Primary data were obtained through interviews with fishermen, local collectors, large collectors, and exporters, while secondary data came from literature, fisheries service reports, and scientific publications. The results showed two patterns of octopus marketing channels: (1) fishermen - large collectors - exporters, and (2) fishermen - local collectors - large collectors - exporters. The highest marketing margin was found among large collectors at IDR 5,000/kg, while the highest marketing costs were also found among large collectors due to longer distribution distances. The marketing efficiency value for all channels was <1, indicating that the octopus marketing system in Pulau Sembilan District can be considered efficient. The structure of octopus marketing institutions in the study area has been functioning well, although there are still differences in costs and margins between institutions. It is recommended that fishermen obtain broader market access and institutional support, so that the added value and welfare of key actors can be further improved.
