Abstract

Garbage waste monitoring, collection and management is one of the primary concerns of the present era due to its detrimental effects on environment. The traditional way of manually monitoring and collecting the garbage is a cumbersome process as it requires considerable human effort and time leading to higher cost. In this paper, an IoT based garbage monitoring system using Thingspeak, an open IoT platform is presented. The system consists of an Arduino microcontroller, an ultrasonic sensor, a load cell and a Wi-Fi module. The Arduino microcontroller receives data from the ultrasonic sensor and load cell. The depth of the garbage in the bin is measured using ultrasonic sensor and the weight of the bin with garbage is measured from the load cell. The LCD screen is used to display the data. The Wi-Fi module transmits the above data to the internet. An open IoT platform Thingspeak is used to monitor the garbage system. With this system, the administrator can monitor and schedule garbage collection more efficiently. A prototype has been developed and tested. It has been found to work satisfactorily. The details are presented in this paper.

Abstract

DACs are essential devices in many digital systems which require high performance data converters. Thus, shrinking of supply voltage, budget constraints of test times, and rising bandwidth requirement causing DAC architectures to highly relying on matched components to perform data conversions. However, matched components are nearly impossible to fabricate; there are always mismatch errors which causes the difference between the designed and actual component value. Dynamic Element Matching (DEM) is one of the techniques that are commonly used to reduce component mismatch error. This technique is a randomization technique to select one of the appropriate codes for each of the digital input value before entering DAC block. Thus, in this research, a new DEM algorithm is proposed on Current-Steering DAC with Partial Binary Tree Network (PBTN) algorithm that utilizes a lower complexity circuit to produce output signals with less glitches. Simulation results for 6-bit 1-MSB PBTN DAC produces 0.3184LSB of DNL, 0.0062LSB of INL, and a power consumption of 14.13 mW, while using only 126 transmission gates.

Abstract

Zigbee is fastidious for a group of abnormal state communication conventions. Zigbee is a run of the mill remote correspondence innovation. ZigBee uses low rate, low-control advanced radios taking into account an IEEE 802 standard for individual region systems. The change characterised by the ZigBee particular is proposed to be easier and less extravagant than the different WPANs remote single zone system, for example, Bluetooth. ZigBee is focused on radio-recurrence applications that compel a low in order rate, long battery life, and secure systems administration. ZigBee has a characterized rate of 250 kbps most appropriate for occasional or irregular information or a single sign transmission from a sensor or data gadget. It is a standard Open convention with no or unimportant permitting charges, chipsets accessible from various sources, remotely redesigned firmware, completely remote and low power, lattice systems administration to work on batteries, low support and bigger system size with standard based high security.

Abstract

This paper presents a simple chaotic-masking system. The system uses a chaos generator built around a grounded memristor. The memristor is emulated using the current-feedback operational amplifier (CFOA). At the sending end the signal is masked by adding chaos. At the receiving end the signal is recovered by subtracting the chaos. The performance of proposed system is investigated using sinusoidal and square wave signals.

Abstract

This paper deals with the elimination of harmonics at PCC in the presence of non-linear type of loads. Introduction of five-level DSTATCOM at PCC injects compensating currents for the minimization of harmonic content in the source currents. Non-linear loads when connected to the system draw non-linear components of current leaving undesired harmonics at the source side. DSTATCOM when connected to the system at the coupling point induces compensating currents to nullify harmonics. This paper introduces the simulation modelling of five-level DSTATCOM for harmonic elimination. Matlab/Simulink  modelling was done for the system without DSTATCOM and its harmonic contents were shown. The system without DSTATCOM is compared with the system with the presence of DSTATCOM showing their respective THD in the source current. Five level DSTATCOM was validated by considering fixed load and variable load. Simulation work was carried out for three types of systems and results were obtained using Matlab/Simulink.

Abstract

Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) power cable is commonly used as the medium for transmitting power supply in the power system network. However, frequent exposure of XLPE cable to the high voltage causes its insulation to degrade over time leading to electricity outages. Degradation of cable can be prevented if regular maintenance is performed using the accurate assessment method. This study models and simulates a cable system comprising of three cable sections connected by two un-degraded cable joints. This model aims to assess defect along the tested cable with the application of time domain reflectometry (TDR) technique. A series of simulations are conducted by varying the cable insulation condition to study its influence on the cable joint reflection. These simulation results from MATLAB/Simulink are validated against the actual TDR experimental results. The identical results shown between the simulation and experimental results indicate that the cable model is valid and can be used to assess the condition of a cable.

Abstract

This paper presents an optimisation of extreme learning machine by league championship algorithm based on food images. extreme learning machine (ELM) is an effective classifier because of the performance which is higher than other classifiers’ aspects. However, some important drawbacks still work as a hindrance like failure of optimal selection weights for the weights of the input-hidden layer and the output of the threshold. In spite of the wide number of problem-solving attempts, there was no solution to be considered effective. This paper presents the approach of hybrid learning and the League Championship Algorithm is used by for the purpose of selecting the input weights and the thresholds outputs. The experimental outcomes showed that the performance of proposed technique is superior as compared according to different scenarios of the measures to benchmark. The proposed method has achieved an overall accuracy of 95% for UEC food 100 dataset and 94% for UEC food 256 dataset comparing with 94% and 80% for baseline approaches.

Abstract

A high beam steering antenna using HPND PIN Diode is proposed with a capability of steering its beam into three different directions -40 º, 0º and 40 º with respective switching condition. The reconfigurable parasitic antenna consists of a driven element and two reconfigurable parasitic elements, is designed with operating range of 9.5GHz. The parasitic elements act as reflectors or director depending on the switching conditions. Both parasitic elements are connected to ground plane via shorting pins. The reconfiguration is controlled by the two HPND PIN Diode switch that embeds to the parasitic element. An average gain value of 8dBi is achieved at all reconfiguration scenarios. All the simulated design has been carried out using CST software.

Abstract

As the demand for Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) applications grows, so does their use of many essential services where node consistent and stability of the communication paths are of great importance. In this scheme, we propose Simulation Analysis for Consistent Path Identification to Refine the Network Lifetime (CPIR). This technique offers more stable path and transmits the data through the consistent nodes. This article is focused on protecting the route from the inconsistent node in mobile communications to improve the network performance and reduce the energy consumption in the network. The simulation results demonstrate that CPIR provided reduce the energy utilization and improved both the longer lifetimes and increased number of packets delivered.

Abstract

This paper presents sweetness degree (°Brix) prediction of the Malaysian oranges using microwave technique. Experimental measurement using monopole sensor and reflectometer was done in order to correlate the relationship between measured reflection coefficient, S11  of the orange and its sweetness level. Up to fifty orange samples were freshly plucked from local grower’s farm and tested. The unique design of the monopole sensor’s holder is made of nylon. The experiment test bed was set up based on the standard dimension of monopole sensor available in the market. The operating frequency is focusing on 2.2 GHz as it shows significant sensitivity for determining Malaysian local oranges sweetness level.
