The needs of efficient bandwidth utilization and method to handle bandwidth fluctuation condition of wireless channel have become fundamental problems in video transmission. This research proposed Combined Scalable Video Coding (CSVC) that refers to Joint Scalable Video Model (JSVM), i.e. development of video coding H.264/AVC by exploiting scalable combination method using Medium Grain Scalability (MGS) on wireless channel of MIMO-OFDM (Multiple Input Multiple Output – Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technology. The research shows that the scalable combination method can be implemented on the scenario for wireless transmission on multicast network. Experimental results show that the delivered quality is close to the alternative traditional simulcast delivery mechanism in MIMO-OFDM systems.

Over the past few years, multiple types of modifications have been proposed onto the Direct Torque Control (DTC) scheme. Among others is the implementation of Space Vector Modulation (SVM). In this paper, two new control strategies are proposed onto an SVM-DTC. Instead of using PI torque and flux controllers, a fuzzy logic control method is implemented in the proposed modification to achieve a more constant switching frequency while minimizing the torque error. The fuzzy logic controller controls the voltages in direct and quadratic reference frame (Vd, Vq). This approach fully utilizes the switching capability of the inverter and thus improving the overall system performance. To overcome issues in open loop stator flux such as DC drift and saturation, a closed loop estimation method of stator flux is also proposed based on voltage model and low pass filter. The performance of the proposed control strategy is benchmarked with that of a conventional DTC–SVM. Simulations and experiments were carried out and the results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional DTC-SVM in terms of DC-offset elimination and overall system robustness. To cope with the massive growth in global mobile data traffic for 2020 and beyond, the fifth generation (5G) system is required to be developed as the current 4G system is expected to fall short behind the provision of such growth. 5G systems is anticipated to use millimeter wave (mm-wave) frequency bands (20 to 90) GHz, due to the availability of wide chunk of unexploited bandwidth. This is revolutionary step to use these bands because of their very different propagation conditions, atmospheric absorption and hardware constraints. However, such challenges could be compensated by means of beamforming/beamsteering and larger antenna array. In this paper, a comparative study aided with ray-tracing simulation has been performed to assess the feasibility of mm-wave in 5G system. Propagation characteristics of the 28GHz and 73 GHz bands have been studied and compared in a street canyon outdoor environment to simulate 5G outdoor mobile access. Simulation results were shown along with their comparison for both of the aforementioned frequencies. The results of propagation comparison have been reported in terms of path loss, k-factor, delay spread and received power for both 28 and 73 GHz bands.

The atmospheric air pollution is a major concern in modern cities, especially in developing countries like Malaysia. In this paper, we have reported an effective implementation for Internet of Things used for monitoring the level of air pollution based on Malaysia Air Pollution Index (API). The low-cost and real time system would be able to monitor regular air quality pollutants including Particulate Matter (PM) of PM2.5, PM10 and Carbon Monoxide (CO) gas as well as the temperatures and humidity of the surroundings. The system has capability to detect Good, Moderate, Unhealthy, Very Unhealthy and Hazardous API status. Based on 5 weeks of experimental API monitoring result on specified test location, the system was able to demonstrate promising results in providing a reliable real time monitoring of the air quality condition.

The key point of marine search and rescue is to find out and recognize the distress objects. At present, the visual search method is usually adopted to detect the ships in distress, and this method can only be used at good sea condition and visibility. In this paper, a new target detection and recognition system is proposed. The parameters of radar transmitter and echo graphics and the invariant moments of radar images are extracted as the system’s recognition features, and the system’s target classifier is based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). The developed recognition classifier has been tested using three kinds of target Images, the target’s features are used as the inputs of trained CNN and the outputs of networks are target classification. Sea experimental results show that the proposed method is well-clustering and with high classified accuracy.

In this paper, a wideband millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) printed dipole antenna is proposed to be used for fifth generation (5G) communications. The single element antenna exhibits a 36 GHz bandwidth with more than 85.71% fractional bandwidth (for S11 <-10 dB) which covers six of the 5G candidate frequencies; 24 GHz, 25 GHz, 28 GHz, 32 GHz, 38 GHz and 40 GHz. The antenna also exhibits an average gain of 5.34 dB with a compact size of 7.35 x 5.85 mm2. The antenna is further designed to be an array with eight elements and manage to increase the gain of the antenna with an average of 12.63 dB, a fractional bandwidth of 81.48% and linearly-polarized radiation pattern.

This paper presents the bandwidth enhancement of a Proximity Coupled Feed Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna using a new Defected Ground Structure - an ‘inverted SHA’ shaped slot on the ground plane of the proximity coupled feed rectangular Microstrip patch antenna. The parameters such as Bandwidth, Return loss, VSWR and Radiation efficiency are improved in the proposed antenna than simple proximity coupled feed rectangular Microstrip patch antenna without Defected Ground Structure. A comparison is also shown for the proposed Microstrip patch antenna with the antenna structure without Defected Ground Structure. The proposed antenna resonates in S-band at frequency of 2.4 GHz with bandwidth of 180 MHz. A very good return loss of -47.9223 dB is obtained for the Microstrip patch antenna with an ’inverted SHA’ shaped Defected Ground Structure. Implementing an ‘inverted SHA’ shaped defect in the ground plane of the proximity coupled feed rectangular Microstrip patch antenna results in 5.3% improvement in bandwidth with 16.01% reduction in the overall area of the ground plane as compared to the Microstrip patch antenna without Defected Ground Structure.

Data mining has two main concepts of data distribution, namely supervised learning and unsupervised learning. The most easily recognizable concepts from data distribution is related to the dataset, with and without target class. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique that carries the concept of pairwise comparison able to answer the problem related to the dataset, which is to change unsupervised to be supervised by determining eigenvalue value of each attribute and sub attribute in AHP method. The case study conducted in this issue is related to determining the target classes used to predict the success of a student learning in UIN Suska Riau. The three main attributes are Procrastination, Total Credits (SKS) and Number of Repeated Courses, each having eigenvalues of 0.319; 0.189 and 0.171 which become the feedback in the determination of the Target Timely Graduation (TG) or Possibility of Timely Graduation (PTG). The biggest consistency ratio generated in the AHP case is 9.4% in the GPA attribute. This research recommends that further research should use datasets that have been arranged based on experimental combinations of the three main attributes above, then applied to the classification or prediction algorithm. So that it would obtain a decision of accuracy from data used against the real result on the field.

During Hajj, pilgrims suffer from various emergencies that should be managed in a real-time manner thus require deploying emerging technology. Based on our research it is found that the emergency medical circumstances among the pilgrims are due to the criticality level of certain physiological conditions those are by some means rely on five major types of the physiological data rate. Five major data types include heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, high or low blood pressure and blood sugar respectively which are obligatory to be transmitted real-time and ahead of other non-critical traffic as delay in its transmission may jeopardise human life. Hence, by the criticality constraints of pilgrims’ physiological data, we primarily perform a traffic classification through literature review. By using classified critical traffic, we define the different priority levels to be used by WBANs hub or coordinator. Therefore, in this research, we apply an analytical method to develop the priority-criticality index table in such a way that there will be no queuing delay in the system. Since our research mainly focuses on to manage the emergency, therefore, for simplicity of critical data transmission, we modified the existing medium access control (MAC) superframe that obtains only one exclusive access period (EAP) slot. The modified MAC superframe structure is to perform efficiently even when more than one emergency traffic from different sensors aggregate to the WBANs coordinator for further transmission to the healthcare stations.
