Abstract

Adenomyosis is a gynecological disease characterized by the invasion of endometrial glands and stroma into the myometrium, often causing symptoms of dysmenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding, and infertility. Basic research using animal models is important for understanding the pathogenesis mechanism and evaluating new interventions, but clinical symptoms in humans are difficult to measure directly in experimental animals. Therefore, surrogate markers that can objectively represent the clinical condition are needed. Methods: This literature review was compiled following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Articles were searched in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases for publications from 2015–2025. Inclusion criteria included original research articles (controlled trials, cohort, or cross-sectional studies) written in English, focusing on the use of surrogate markers in animal models of adenomyosis. Review articles, editorials, and publications without DOI were excluded. Results: A total of six primary studies met the inclusion criteria, most of which used the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mouse model with neonatal tamoxifen induction. Surrogate markers used can be grouped into three categories: (1) histological markers, such as the depth of myometrial infiltration and the degree of fibrosis (Masson staining, collagen I/IV, α-SMA), (2) functional markers, such as uterine contractility and pain behavior tests (hotplate latency), and (3) molecular markers, such as TGF-β1/p-Smad3, COX-2, TRPV1, NGF, PR-B, OTR, vimentin, and E-cadherin. In addition, several studies have assessed reproductive markers (LIF expression and implantation rate) as fertility surrogates. The results of these studies show a consistent relationship between adenomyosis progression and fibrosis, molecular dysregulation, hyperalgesia, and changes in uterine contractility. Interventions such as resveratrol, anti-platelet, and TGF-β1 neutralizing antibodies have been shown to improve these markers. Surrogate markers in animal models of adenomyosis have proven rational and useful for assessing disease progression and the effects of interventions. Although translational validity to humans is still limited, histological, functional, molecular, and reproductive markers can be an important bridge between basic research and clinical application in adenomyosis.

Abstract

Cardiac catheterization is performed to reduce mortality risk from vascular stenosis. Following the procedure, femoral sheath removal often resulted in mild to severe pain. This study aimed to describe nursing care through the application of an ice gel pack as a nonpharmacological method to reduce pain during femoral sheath removal in post–cardiac catheterization patients at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. A case study design was applied, which included assessment, nursing diagnoses, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The ice gel pack was applied over the sheath site for 20 minutes before sheath removal. Evaluation showed that pain intensity decreased from a scale of 5 to 3 after the intervention. Theapplication of an ice gel pack effectively reduced pain and is recommended for inclusion in hospital standard procedures

Abstract

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) remain a major global health concern and frequently present in primary care, yet epidemiological data on urinalysis markers—particularly leukocyturia and hematuria—are limited in community-based clinics. This gap reduces diagnostic accuracy because most existing evidence originates from hospital settings. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and characteristics of leukocyturia among suspected UTI patients and to analyze its association with hematuria in a community outpatient clinic. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using medical records from the Ibnu Sina Clinic, Balikpapan, Indonesia, from January to June 2025. All patients meeting the inclusion criteria were analyzed using descriptive statistics and comparative tests in SPSS version 25. Among 87 eligible patients, most were elderly women, with high urine specific gravity and normal urinary pH. Leukocyturia was predominantly mild-to-moderate (6–20 leukocytes/HPF), and diabetes mellitus emerged as the most frequent comorbidity. A significant association was found between leukocyturia and hematuria (p < 0.05), indicating that increasing inflammatory burden corresponds with greater red blood cell presence in urine. In conclusion, leukocyturia prevalence was highest among elderly diabetic women in this community-based setting. Routine urinalysis remains essential for early infection detection where urine culture is not readily accessible. Future research should incorporate urine culture and antimicrobial resistance testing to enhance diagnostic precision.

Abstract

Diabetic wounds are a chronic complication that is difficult to heal due to impaired blood circulation, oxidative stress, and microbial infection. Conventional therapies are often ineffective due to poor drug penetration into damaged skin tissue and limited bioavailability of active compounds. Lipid nanoparticle-based drug delivery technology was developed to overcome these obstacles by increasing stability, skin penetration ability, and controlled drug release. Objective: This article aims to comprehensively review the role of lipid-based nanoparticle delivery systems in improving the effectiveness of diabetic wound healing therapy, including the mechanisms of absorption enhancement, active substance stability, and pharmacological activity. Methods: This study is a systematic literature review of national and international publications over the past ten years (2015–2025). Data sources were obtained from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases using keywords “lipid nanoparticles,” “diabetic wound healing,” and “transdermal drug delivery.” Inclusion criteria included experimental studies and review articles discussing lipid nanoparticle formulations and their therapeutic effects on diabetic wounds. Results: Various studies have shown that lipid-based nanoparticle systems, including nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) and solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), can improve the stability and permeation of active ingredients such as curcumin, asiatic acid, and other herbal extracts through the skin. This improvement contributes to better anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities, thereby accelerating the healing process of diabetic wounds. Conclusion: Lipid-based nanoparticle technology offers an innovative approach to diabetic wound therapy by improving the stability, bioavailability, and effectiveness of active ingredients. Further development is needed for formulation optimization and clinical validation to ensure the safety and effectiveness of its use in diabetic patients.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a global health problem with increasing prevalence. According to data from the International Diabetes Federation (1), more than 537 million people worldwide suffer from DM. Aerobic exercise has been recommended as a non-pharmacological intervention to control blood glucose levels, but further research is needed to determine its effectiveness in various clinical contexts. Various measures are taken to prevent and control diabetic neuropathy and improve peripheral circulation through the five pillars of DM management, namely education, nutrition, physical activity, pharmacological therapy, and blood glucose monitoring. Physical activity is an important element in preventing and managing type 2 DM. Aerobic exercise is a series of deliberately selected movements that follow the rhythm of music that is also selected so as to create certain rhythmic, continuity, and duration provisions. Subjects and Method: This study used 30 subjects with a quasi-experimental method with one group pretest and posttest design with control. The total sample was 30 patients, namely 15 in the intervention group and 15 in the control group. This study was conducted on subjects aged 40-60 years in Tohudan Village, Colomadu, Karanganyar. The intervention group underwent an aerobic exercise program three times a week for 12 weeks, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Blood sugar levels were measured before and after the intervention. Results: There was a significant effect between random blood glucose levels in patients given the intervention, with a mean difference of -46,000, indicating that after being given an aerobic exercise intervention, random blood glucose could decrease by about 46 mg/dl. Conclusion: There is an effect of aerobic exercise on blood sugar control in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy constitutes a significant public health issue, as it elevates the likelihood of adverse pregnancy outcomes, including pregnancy complications. In West Lombok, the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women was reported to reach 18.6%. Despite government efforts through iron supplementation programs, challenges remain, including low adherence and limited bioavailability. Therefore, alternative natural supplements are needed. Trigona honey contains micronutrients and bioactive compounds with hematopoietic and immunomodulatory properties, making it a potential natural agent to improve hemoglobin levels and immune function. Objective: To examine the impact of Trigona honey supplementation on the hemoglobin levels of pregnant women with IDA. Methods: This true experimental research employed a pretest–posttest control group design and was carried out within the service area of the Jembatan Kembar Community Health Center. Thirty pregnant women were recruited using purposive sampling and divided into two groups: intervention (Trigona honey + iron) and control (iron only), each with 15 participants. Data were collected using questionnaires and Touch GCHB tests to measure hemoglobin levels. Statistical analyses were performed using paired and independent t-tests with a significance thresholdof p < 0.05. Results: Hemoglobin levels increased significantly in both groups; however, the intervention group demonstrated a more substantial improvement (mean = 2.89; p = 0.000) compared to the control group (mean = 0.65; p = 0.010).  Conclusion: Trigona honey significantly enhanced hemoglobin levels compared to iron supplementation alone. It may serve as a promising non-pharmacological complementary therapy for preventing and managing iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion. Diabetes often causes serious complications such as diabetic wounds, which are characterized by the appearance of ulcers, infections, or tissue damage in the feet. Conventional therapeutic approaches often show less than optimal effectiveness due to limited drug penetration into damaged skin tissue. The use of natural ingredients with antidiabetic and wound healing activities has been widely studied, but their effectiveness is often hampered by low solubility, stability, and bioavailability. One innovative strategy to overcome these problems is the development of nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems, one of which is Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC). NLC is a lipid delivery system that combines solid and liquid lipids to increase stability, drug loading capacity, and control the release of active compounds. Purpose: This article aims to review the development of formulations from natural ingredients that have potential as antidiabetic and diabetic wound healing activities. Methods: This study is a literature review of articles published in the last ten years (2015 – 2025) from the ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. Results: Based on several studies, it shows that various active compounds such as curcumin (Curcuma longa), bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum), and other flavonoid compounds have been formulated in the NLC system with significant improvements in stability, bioavailability, and pharmacological effectiveness. Conclusion: The NLC-based drug delivery system from natural ingredients has proven potential in increasing the effectiveness of antidiabetic therapy and diabetic wound healing. Further research is needed to optimize formulation stability, long-term toxicity testing, and clinical validation to support its therapeutic application.

Abstract

Labor pain can lead to decreased contractions and prolonged labor. According to World data in the World Health Organization in 2019, the case of mothers with painful labor states that only 10-15% of labor lasts without pain, thus the data is most found in mothers with painful labor, namely a prevalence of 85-90% of labor takes place with pain. The rebozo technique and warm compress are new non-pharmacological therapies to reduce the intensity of labor pain that are easy, inexpensive, and comfortable for mothers. Objective: To find out the comparison of rebozo technique and warm compress on the intensity of pain reduction in pregnant women during the first active phase. Research Method: The type of research is Quasi experiment pre-test and post-test two group design. Technique of sampling purposive samples. The data were analyzed by paired T test and Wilcoxon test. Results: The results of the analysis showed that the average respondent after being given the rebozo technique experienced a decrease in pain of 3.27, while the respondents after being given warm compresses experienced a decrease in pain of 4.87 with a p-value of 0.006 so it was concluded that there was a significant difference in the reduction in the intensity of labor pain given by the rebozo technique and warm compress, where the rebozo technique was more effective compared to the administration of warm compresses. Suggestion: Apply the natural method of the rebozo technique during the delivery process as one of the mother's loving care that will provide a sense of comfort and can reduce labor pain in childbirth mothers.

Abstract

Decreased consciousness is a clinical condition that requires rapid and accurate assessment. One method used is the application of nail bed pressure pain stimulation to elicit a response from the patient. This study aims to determine the consistency of responses from patients with decreased consciousness when given pain stimulation based on the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score in the emergency department of Dr. M. Djamil Hospital in Padang. This was a quantitative descriptive study with 70 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Consciousness levels were measured twice. Data were collected in July 2025 using the GCS assessment format, then analyzed descriptively and cross-tabulated using frequency distribution, percentages, means, standard deviations, and correlations. The nail bed pressure technique produced an average GCS score of 6.01 ± 0.625 on the first assessment and 6.04 ± 0.711 on the second assessment. Most scores were in the range of 6–7. The nail bed pressure technique provided an inconsistent picture of changes in GCS responses in patients with decreased consciousness.

Abstract

Child developmental disorders occur when genetic or environmental factors fail to meet a child's basic growth and development needs. Prompt detection and appropriate intervention can help improve the quality of a child's growth and development later in life. This study aimed to determine the effect of infant massage and baby spa treatments on weight gain in infants aged 3 to 9 months. This was a quasi-experimental study using a pre-test-post-test with a control group design. The subjects consisted of 20 infants in the case group and 20 infants in the intervention group at Mahanum Clinic. The results showed that the average weight gain in infants aged 3-9 months in the intervention group was 740.48 grams, while the average weight gain in the control group was 206.48 grams. The results of the Paired Sample T-test showed a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that both baby spa and baby massage have an effect on the weight of babies aged 3-9 months. The results of the Independent T-test showed a p-value of 0.004 < 0.05, indicating that there is a significant difference between baby spa and baby massage on the weight of babies aged 3-9 months, with baby spa being superior to baby massage. It is recommended that midwives use baby spa as an appropriate health promotion strategy to increase infant weight.
