Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus Gestasional (DMG) merupakan suatu gangguan intoleransi glukosa pada masa kehamilan. Terapi farmakologi yang umumnya diberikan yaitu Insulin dan obat hipoglikemik oral seperti metformin. Metformin sering digunakan pada pengobatan DMG saat ini. Metformin dapat melewati barrier plasenta, namun belum ditemukan adanya bukti kecacatan pada janin atau komplikasi pada bayi. Banyak penelitian melakukan uji coba untuk membandingkan efektivitas dan keamaan metformin pada ibu hamil. Tujuan review artikel ini yaitu untuk mengulas beberapa literature terkait efektivitas dan efisiensi penggunaan obat metformin yang dibandingkan dengan insulin pada DMG. Metode yang digunakan yaitu literature review dengan menggunakan data primer berupa artikel ilmiah atau jurnal, dilakukan penelusuran melalui database Google Scholar, Elsevier, atau PubMed dengan rentang tahun terbit 5 tahun terakhir. Hasil dari review artikel ilmiah menunjukan bahwa insulin tidak menjadi pilihan utama pada pengobatan DMG karena dapat menyebabkan peningkatan berat badan sedangkan penggunaan metformin lebih banyak digunakan. Kesimpulan dari review ini menunjukan tidak terdapat perbedaan efektivitas dalam penggunaan terapi insulin dan metformin dalam menurunkan kadar gula darah pasien DMG. Penggunaan metformin lebih efisien karena tidak menimbulkan kenaikan berat badan dan mengurangi risiko makrosomia dan neonatal hipoglikemia.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia, characterized by high uric acid levels, is associated with an elevated risk of cardiovascular diseases. Xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR), an enzyme central to uric acid generation, is implicated in oxidative stress and diminished vascular function. It has become a focal point for potential therapeutic interventions. This investigation aimed to assess the influence of combined ethanol extracts of Kaempferia galanga L. and Zingiber officinale (KGZE) on xanthine oxidase activity and arterial rigidity in hyperuricemic rat models. Furthermore, the research sought to explore these extracts' potential in managing hyperuricemia and its associated vascular disorders. Hyperuricemia was established in Wistar rats by administering potassium oxonate at 4.5 mg/kg via injection. A total of 25 rats were divided into five groups: a normal control group receiving 0.5% CMC, a positive control group with hyperuricemia, a reference group treated with allopurinol (1.8 mg/kgBW), and two experimental groups receiving KGZE at doses of 50 mg/kgBW and 100 mg/kgBW. All rats consumed 25% fructose in their drinking water for 28 days. This study measured uric acid levels and arterial stiffness, revealing that KGZE significantly reduced uric acid levels and improved arterial stiffness, indicating its potential as an XOR inhibitor.

Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is associated with an increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, which are often triggered by oxidative stress and inflammation. This study evaluated the effects of Kaempferia galanga L extract (ERK) on oxidative stress and metabolic dysfunction using a fructose-induced male Wistar rat model. A total of 25 rats were divided into five groups: normal control, positive control, allopurinol group, and two ERK treatment groups at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg body weight. All groups, except the normal control, were given 25% fructose in the drinking water and an injection of potassium oxonate (4.5 mg/kg body weight) for 28 days. Evaluation was done by measurement of glucose, triglyceride, malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) and histological analysis of aortic tissue. The results showed that ERK, especially at a dose of 100 mg/kg, significantly reduced glucose, triglyceride and MDA levels and increased NO levels. ERK administration also reduced the body weight of mice and prevented the formation of foam and inflammatory cells in aortic tissue. The total flavonoid content of ERK also supports its biological activity. This study concludes that ERK has potential as a natural therapeutic agent to treat metabolic syndrome through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms.

Abstract

Anemia merupakan masalah kesehatan utama pada remaja, terutama remaja putri, akibat rendahnya kadar hemoglobin (Hb) dalam darah. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa tentang anemia, penggunaan bahan alam untuk mengatasinya, serta melibatkan pemeriksaan fisik (tensi darah, Hb, tinggi badan, dan berat badan). Kegiatan ini juga mencakup pelatihan pembuatan produk herbal, seperti nori berbahan daun kelor dan ubi jalar beserta minuman madu, jinten hitam, dan temulawak. Sebanyak 38 siswa (35 perempuan, 3 laki-laki) menjadi responden, mayoritas berusia 18 tahun (55,26%). Sebagian besar siswa memiliki tensi darah normal (94,74%) dan kadar Hb dalam kategori normal (81,58%). Edukasi dilakukan menggunakan media sosial, PowerPoint, leaflet, dan pelatihan produk herbal. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan siswa dengan 57,89% mencapai kategori "baik sekali" dan 81,58% memahami penggunaan bahan alam untuk anemia. Kegiatan ini terbukti efektif meningkatkan pemahaman siswa tentang anemia dan pencegahannya, sekaligus memberikan keterampilan praktis memanfaatkan bahan alam menjadi produk herbal.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Prevalensi obesitas yang terus meningkat menjadi salah satu masalah kesehatan di Indonesia. Obesitas juga berkaitan dengan terjadinya dislipidemia. Dislipidemia memiliki hubungan erat dengan terjadinya aterosklerosis dan berujung pada infark miokard akut. Dislipidemia ditunjukkan dengan adanya peningkatan Kolesterol total, Kolesterol-LDL, ataupun trigliserida, atau adanya penurunan Kolesterol-HDL. Subtipe Kolesterol-LDL yang paling bahaya adalah Small dense LDL. Obesitas juga berkaitan dengan tingginya kadar Apolipoprotein B. Tujuan: Melihat profil Kolesterol-LDL, Apolipoprotein B dan Small dense LDL serta melihat kemungkinan adanya hubungan antara obesitas dengan Kolesterol-LDL, Apolipoprotein B dan Small dense LDL pada remaja obes dan non obes. Metode: Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode observasional deskriptif dengan desain cross sectional study. Subjek penelitian adalah 76 mahasiswa Universitas Bhakti Kencana . Obesitas ditentukan berdasarkan ukuran lingkar pinggang. Hasil: Dari 76 subjek ditemukan 30 subjek obes dan 27 subjek non obes dengan kadar Kolesterol-LDL di atas nilai normal, terdapat 19 subjek obes dan 7 subjek non obes dengan kadar Apolipoprotein B di atas nilai normal dan terdapat 14 subjek obes dan 4 subjek non obes yang memiliki Small dense LDL. Kesimpulan: Subjek obes cenderung memiliki kadar Kolesterol-LDL dan Apolipoprotein B di atas nilai normal dan memiliki Small dense LDL serta terdapat hubungan antara obesitas dengan kadar Kolesterol-LDL, Apolipoprotein B dan Small dense LDL.

Abstract

Diabetic wounds are a chronic complication that is difficult to heal due to impaired blood circulation, oxidative stress, and microbial infection. Conventional therapies are often ineffective due to poor drug penetration into damaged skin tissue and limited bioavailability of active compounds. Lipid nanoparticle-based drug delivery technology was developed to overcome these obstacles by increasing stability, skin penetration ability, and controlled drug release. Objective: This article aims to comprehensively review the role of lipid-based nanoparticle delivery systems in improving the effectiveness of diabetic wound healing therapy, including the mechanisms of absorption enhancement, active substance stability, and pharmacological activity. Methods: This study is a systematic literature review of national and international publications over the past ten years (2015–2025). Data sources were obtained from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases using keywords “lipid nanoparticles,” “diabetic wound healing,” and “transdermal drug delivery.” Inclusion criteria included experimental studies and review articles discussing lipid nanoparticle formulations and their therapeutic effects on diabetic wounds. Results: Various studies have shown that lipid-based nanoparticle systems, including nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) and solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), can improve the stability and permeation of active ingredients such as curcumin, asiatic acid, and other herbal extracts through the skin. This improvement contributes to better anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities, thereby accelerating the healing process of diabetic wounds. Conclusion: Lipid-based nanoparticle technology offers an innovative approach to diabetic wound therapy by improving the stability, bioavailability, and effectiveness of active ingredients. Further development is needed for formulation optimization and clinical validation to ensure the safety and effectiveness of its use in diabetic patients.

Abstract

Infeksi Saluran Pernapasan Akut (ISPA) masih menjadi permasalahan kesehatan masyarakat yang penting, terutama pada anak-anak. Kurangnya pemahaman tentang pencegahan ISPA serta rendahnya pemanfaatan tanaman obat keluarga (TOGA) turut berkontribusi terhadap tingginya angka kejadian ISPA. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai ISPA, mendorong penerapan perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat, serta mengoptimalkan pemanfaatan TOGA melalui edukasi dan praktik penanaman langsung. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi ceramah interaktif, diskusi, dan praktik budidaya TOGA. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta tentang pencegahan ISPA dari 93,5% menjadi 95,7% berdasarkan hasil pre-test dan post-test, serta terbentuknya kelompok masyarakat yang berkomitmen memelihara kebun TOGA di lingkungan rumah. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya edukasi kesehatan berbasis masyarakat dalam memberdayakan keluarga untuk mencegah ISPA dan menciptakan lingkungan hidup yang lebih sehat. Improving Community Health through ARI Education and TOGA Cultivation in Nanjung Village, Margaasih District, Bandung Regency Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) remains a major public health issue, particularly among children. Limited understanding of ARI prevention and the low utilization of family medicinal plants (TOGA) contribute to its high prevalence. This community service program aimed to enhance public knowledge of ARI, promote clean and healthy living behaviors, and optimize the use of TOGA through health education and practical planting sessions. The implementation involved interactive lectures, discussions, and hands-on TOGA cultivation. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ understanding of ARI prevention from 93.5% to 95.7% based on pre- and post-tests, and the establishment of community groups committed to maintaining TOGA gardens. These outcomes highlight the practical significance of community-based health education in empowering households to prevent ARI and sustain healthier living environments.

Abstract

Diarrhea is characterized by having liquid stool more often than usual, typically occurring three or more times within a 24-hour period. While rarely fatal, it can disrupt daily life and is often treated with antibiotics due to pathogens like Bacillus cereus, Shigella flexneri, and Salmonella typhimurium. An overgrowth of Escherichia coli can also be a contributing factor. Recent studies suggest that unripe wood apples may have antibacterial properties. This study evaluates the antibacterial activity of extracts from the peel and flesh of the fruit against the bacteria, as mentioned earlier. Using disk diffusion, microdilution, and bioautography methods, it was found that the ethanol extract inhibited Bacillus cereus and Shigella sonnei, while the flesh extract affected Bacillus cereus and Escherichia coli. The bioautography test, however, showed no antibacterial activity from either extract, likely due to their low concentration. In conclusion, the peel and flesh extracts of unripe wood apples exhibit potential antibacterial activity against diarrhea-causing bacteria, particularly Bacillus cereus.
