Abstract

Jenis  tanah  yang   digunakan  dalam   penelitian  ini  adalah  Huldenberg   (Light  loamy).   De  Klinge   (Sandy)   dan Bonheiden   (Sandy),  sedang  larutan Dranco  berosal  dari  proses   fermentasi   anaerobik  dengan  substrat  sampah  kota. Tujuan  penelitian  ini adalah untuk   mengetahui  karak teristik  tanah  yang ditambahkan larutan Dranco,  terutama  tentang kemampuan  larutan  Dranco  dalam  mensmbilkan  agregat tanah  serta  menekan   intensitas.  erosi.  Selain itu  diamati pula pengaruh  penambahan   larutan Dranco  terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman  serta daya survival  tanaman  tersebut   dalam kondisi lingkungan  yang  kekeringan.Hasil  penelitian  menunjukkan  penambahan   iarutan  Dranco  menyebabkan peningkatan “saturated  hydraulic  con­ ductivity"  dua kali, penurunan  “capillary  rise”  dan  "horizontal   infiltrotion'' yang  menunjukkan indikasi  agregat  tanah yang  lebih  stabil  terhadap  penghancuran  oleh.air.  Selain  itu juga  diperlihatkan  bahwa gerakan  air diperlambat  sehingga tanah akan menyimpan air lebih lama.Pengaruh  larutan  Dranco  yang  sangat besar adalah  terhadap  stabilisasi  agregat tanah.  Untuk   tanah  "light loamy" stabilitasnya  ditingkatkan  sampai  3 kali,  untuk  "sandy” (clay  6%) sampai  10  kali dan  “sandy” (clay  3%)  sampai 40 kali. Selain itu, larutan Dranco   menurunkan  intensitas  erosi,  mempercepat   pertumbuhan  tanaman  serta memperpanjang  daya  tahan tanaman dalam kekeringan.

Abstract

Kegiatan pemanenan kayu yang efektif dan produktif umumnya dilakukan pada petak tebang. Hal iniberarti bahwa pembuatan petak tebang di hutan tanaman rawa gambut secara ideal ditentukan olehluasan optimal. Untuk itu perlu dilakukan kajian luas petak tebang optimal di hutan tanaman rawagambut. Penelitian dilaksanakan di PT Arara Abadi, Riau pada bulan Juni 2011. Tujuan penelitian untukmengetahui luas petak tebang optimal di hutan tanaman rawa gambut. Data lapangan dari beberapaalternatif luas petak tebang berupa produktivitas dan biaya penyaradan dan pemeliharaan/pembuatankanal diolah ke dalam bentuk tabulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: Berdasarkan aspek teknis danfinansial petak tebang ukuran 150mx 350mmerupakan petak tebang optimal.

Abstract

this investigation deals with manufacturing of compost and charcoal compost. The raw materials in this manufacture were foliage litters and bark of tusam (Pinus mcrkusii Jungh et de Vries) trees growing in West Java. Particular bio-activators, called as Orgadec and EM;. were used to stimulate the decomposition of those materials. This investigation lasts for about three months. The results revealed that the quality of several of the resulting charcoal composts comply with the related standards, with respect to among others : P = 1.12 - 1.24 percent; K = 1.47-1. 62 percent; Mg= 0.67-1.05 percent; moisture content 55.81-56.21 percent: pH 6.8-7.2; and C/N ratio 18,89-20./0. When compared to other compost, the charcoal compost revealed better qualities, since charcoal was added to it lo improve the properties of soil, i.e. increasing the pH and storing more water.

Abstract

Limbah pengolahan kayu jabon (Antochephalus cadamba Miq.) dan bambu andong (Gigantochloa pseudoarundinacea (Steudel) Widjaja) dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan papan partikel. Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari pengaruh perbandingan berat partikel kayu jabon dan bambu andong terhadap sifat fisis dan mekanis papan partikel. Papan partikel skala laboratorium berukuran 35 cm x 35 cm x 1,2 cm dibuat dengan menggunakan perekat phenol formaldehida cair dengan enam macam komposisi campuran partikel kayu jabon dan bambu andong (100:0, 70:30, 60:40, 50:50, 40:60 dan 30:70). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sifat papan partikel campuran kayu jabon dan bambu andong sangat dipengaruhi oleh komposisi material penyusunnya. Penggunaan partikel bambu andong dalam pembuatan papan partikel campuran kayu jabon dan bambu andong dapat menurunkan nilai pengembangan tebal papan partikel kayu jabon sebesar 11,19% sampai 40%. Penggunaan 40% partikel bambu andong dalam pembuatan papan partikel campuran kayu jabon dan bambu andong dapat meningkatkan nilai MOR sebesar 11,49%. Papan partikel campuran kayu jabon dan bambu andong dalam penelitian ini memenuhi Standar Nasional Indonesia dan Standar Jepang untuk papan partikel kecuali untuk nilai MOE.

Abstract

Five air dried timber species measured 2.5 x 5 x 10 cm was brushed by preservative in one of the broader side for four,  seven and ten times which similar with 1.25 g, 1.75  g and 2.25 g preservative.   The preservative  used  were Xylamon 5. 61  OC and  Cuprinol  118 L,  with the replication per  treatment were ten.  Two weeks after treatment preservative penetration  in all samples was measured.The  results  showed   that  the  preservative  penetration  of  all  treatment  did  not  mee trequirements for  timber housing. Additional brushing may be could improve penetration  and meet the standard but it will be costly. The cost offour,  seven and ten times brushing if appliedin door frame  are Rp  245,530,-  Rp.  343,742,-  and Rp.  44J,953,-  per  m3  with the price  of preservative Rp. 13,500,- per liter.Key words:  brushing,  Xylamon, Cuprinol, penetration

Abstract

Pine (Pinus merkusii Jungh et.de. Vriese) trees have an important role on related industries endeavoring in forest products, due to the widespread utlilization on their potential wood as well as gum matters.Production of pine gum can be affected by the manner of its tapping, kind and percentage of stimulant agent, age and diameter of trees. and genotype factors. Related as such, this investigation was intended lo evaluate the effect of pine tree diameters and stimulant percentage on productivity of pine tapping. In addition, this investigation was also to evaluate whether the tapping orientations (i.e. north­. east­, south­, and west­directions) affected the gum productivity. The main aim was to find out which tapping manner turned out to be the most efficient, the most economic and the safest either lo the trees or to the tapping worker themselves and end up with the optimum and continuity of pine gum production. The pine trees selected for this investigation were the ones growing in Sumedang region, West Java (Indonesia).Results revealed that age of pine trees significantly affecfed the gum production. Tree age of 16, 26 and 31 year old produced gum at 50.15 gr, 81.94 gr, and 9. l7 gr respectively per tree stand. Meanwhile productivity was also affected by tapping orientation, in which the east direcfion of tapping on 16­ year old pine tree at stimulant level of either 15% or 20% brought about the optimum productivity. Likewise, optimum production was obtained from 26­year old pine tree at 15% stimulant percentage with north­ as well as south­direction of tapping, and frorn the 31 year old pine free stands at 25% stimulant by west­direction tapping.

Abstract

Enam jenis kayu yaitu kayu ketapang (Terminalia complanata K. Sch.), pala hutan (Gymnacranthera paniculata Warb.), bipa (Pterygota horsfieldii (R.Br.) Kosterm.), kelumpang (Sterculia shillinglawii), manggis (Pentaphalangium parviflorum) dan lancat (Mastixiodendron pachyclados Melch.), diuji ketahanannya terhadap delapan jenis jamur perusak menggunakan metode Kolle-flask. Contoh uji setiap kayu, masing-masing diambil dari bagian tepi dan dalam dolok. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa satu jenis kayu yang memiliki daya tahan tinggi terhadap jamur yaitu M. pachyclados, termasuk  kelompok kayu-tahan (kelas II) dan P. horsfieldii termasuk kelompok kayu agak-tahan (kelas III), sedangkan empat jenis kayu lainnya termasuk kelompok kayu tidak-tahan (kelas IV). Rata-rata kehilangan berat kayu bagian dalam lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan kehilangan berat kayu bagian tepi dolok, namun keduanya termasuk kelompok kayu dengan daya tahan sama yaitu tidak-tahan (kelas IV). Daya tahan kayu terendah diketahui dari bagian gubal G. paniculata yang diumpankan kepada jamur Pycnoporus sanguineus, sedangkan daya tahan tertinggi terekam pada kayu gubal M. pachyclados yang dipaparkan pada jamur Tyromyces palustris. Kemampuan jamur dalam melapukkan kayu mulai dari tertinggi sampai terendah adalah P. sanguineus, Polyporus arcularius, Polyporus sp., T. palustris, Schizophyllum commune, Lentinus lepideus, Phlebia brevispora dan Chaetomium globosum.

Abstract

A study on the forest  road densities  was carried out at two logging companies in Jambi in 1990.  The objective is to find  aut the information of forest  road densifies realized by the companies. Data on area cut and road constructed  during the latest ten years felltng  blocks (from 1980/1981 to 1989/1990) were coilected. The results of the  investigation reveal that.:1.   Annually, the length of forest.roods built by A and B logging companies ranged from 2,000  to 13,000 m with an average of 6.050 m. and from  7, 600 to 19.800 m with an average of 12, 733 m. respectively.2.  Forest  road density  of each felling block at A and B logging companies ranged from 2. 10 to 20 m/ha with an average of 8. 54 m/ha, and from 3.45  to 22 m/ha with anaverage of 10.02 m/ha, respectively.3.  The level of forest road density average in the two logging  companies was still bellaw those level based on Segebaden Formula.4.  It is suggested that log potential,  rood construction cost and skidding cost be taken info consideration in constructing ofrest road.

Abstract

An  experiment  on  charcoal  gasification   for  power  generation   was  conducted    on  a pilot   scale  of  7.5 KVA.   This experiment  used  50  kg  mixed  charcoal  species  having  moisture  content   of  6.9  %, ash content   of 2.5 %, volatile  matter  of  22.4  % and calorific  value of 6733  cal/g.The  product gas was run  through  gas purifier,  jet  condenser,  cyclone,  gas cooler and filter.  The gas was composed   of carbon  monoxide  (26  to  31%),   carbon  dioxide  (3  to  15%), methane  (0 to 1%) with  calorific  values ranging from  2600  to 4100  cal/g.The produce  gas which  was assumed   to  have  been purified   of  tar and  water  vapour  was fed  into  a power  generator.The  electric  power  generated   ranged  from   200   to  234  Volts  at around  2.08  A  and  a revolution   of  from   1822  to 2110 RPM. It  turned  out  that  these gases still  contained   tar and  water  vapour  which  was observed  at the engine,  an indication that  the  gas purifier   did  not  function  weel.  This  is evidenced   by  the fluctuation  of  the gas flow  rate  (from  9.8  to  1277 Nm3/hour).The  efficiency   of  charcoal  conversion   to  electric  and  heat  energy   was  11. 7% and  60% respectively   for  a load of 1.8  KW  and  7 hours  of  operation,   and  13,9  % and  50.5   % respectively   for  a load  of  2.8  KW  and  7 hours  of  operation.

Abstract

Coconut  wood  has  been potentially   available  as  a  source  of  raw  material for wood processing  industries for  many years.  Coconut  wood is a non-traditional  forestry  timber. In  forestry jargon  coconut  wood  is classified as a non-wood or non-timber product.  As a source of industrial  raw  material for boards  and planks  and for  fumiture  components  and  housing utensils plenty  of coconut   woods are available as wood substitutes  throughout Indonesia. It is technically  as  well  as  economically  viable.   Its  investment  opportunities   is  good  and  its prospects is also promising.The analysis was based on a case study which was conducted in North Sulawesi Province of eastern  Indonesia   using   a   dynamic  programming   aproach   to  identify   and   to   analyse intertemporal investment allocation possibilities  and its best altematives  to gain financial  and economic  return.   When the limited funds were to be best dicided and allocated based on scarcityresource allocation  decision approach then the dynamic programming  model has proven  as a best choice.  Eventhougk  the model is not a best one but it is available  to guide the decision makers to best posible alternative solutions in a decision making process.Keywords :   Dynamic  Progranuning  Model,   Coconut   Wood  utilization,  North  Sulawesi.
