Abstract

Abstract

Rubber plantations (Hevea brasiliensis Müll. Arg.) play an important role in carbon sequestration in tropical regions, including educational land. This study aims to estimate the above-ground biomass (AGB) carbon stock in rubber vegetation at the school garden of SMKN 4 Sampit, Central Kalimantan, using the allometric equation of Chave et al. (2005) with specific wood density correction for Hevea brasiliensis. Data were collected from three 20 m × 20 m measurement plots (400 m² each) with a total of 58 rubber trees. Measured parameters included diameter at breast height (DBH) and tree height. Results showed a mean AGB of 25.37 ± 4.66 Ton ha⁻¹ and a mean carbon stock of 11.92 ± 2.19 Ton C ha⁻¹, equivalent to 43.73 Ton CO₂e ha⁻¹. Carbon stock varied among plots, with Plot 2 being the highest (14.43 Ton C ha⁻¹) and Plot 3 the lowest (10.40 Ton C ha⁻¹). Differences among plots were attributed to variations in DBH, tree height, and stand density. Carbon stock values are consistent with intermediate-age rubber stands and indicate significant carbon storage potential in educational land. This study contributes to the carbon database of Indonesian tropical forests and supports the implementation of REDD+ programs at the site level.

Abstract

The Carbon Content of Mangrove Stands Hubat Beach Sinjai Regency. In the fight against the effects of global warming, mangrove forests are crucial. Mangrove have the capacity to permanently store and absorb carbon from plants. It takes work to learn about and comprehend the capacity of mangrove plants to store and absorb carbon because each mangrove areas contribution to carbon absorption differs. This research was conducted at Hubat Beach, Sanjai Village, East Sinjai Sub-District, Sinjai Regency. Sample measurements were carried out in 8 observation plots spread throughout the mangrove forest. The measured parameters of density, species closure, importance value index and stem diameter. Meanwhile, to determine the carbon content and absorption capacity, the biomass of existing mangrove stands must first be calculated. The research results showed that there were three types of mangroves including Rhizopora mucronata, Sonneratia alba, Avicennia marina. Rhizopora mucronata dominates with a density of 4,230 trees/ha. The diameter of the stem is very small, namely an average of 8.53 cm. The biomass of the Rhizopora mucronata species was obtained on average 105,644 tonnes/ha, carbon content 49,653 tonnes/ha and carbon uptake 182,225 tonnes/ha. Sonneratia alba has a density of 130 trees/h, an average trunk diameter of 22.21 cm. Biomass is 32,484 tonnes/ha with a carbon content of 15,267 tonnes/ha and carbon uptake of 56,032 tonnes/ha. The density of Avicennia marina is 150 trees/ha with an average trunk diameter of 12.64 cm. The carbon content was 1,734 tons/ha and carbon uptake reached 7,536 tons/ha, the biomass obtained was 3,689 tons/ha

Abstract

Plantation forests play a role in mitigating climate change through biomass carbon storage influenced by planting distance. This study aims to analyze the effect of planting distance on the growth and carbon stocks of R. leprosula Miq. with planting years 1997 and 1998 and planting distances of 2m × 2m, 3m × 3m, and 4m × 4m in the Gunung Dahu Research Forest, Bogor. The parameters observed included diameter, height, basal area, stand density, crown density, and carbon stocks, analyzed using analysis of variance (95%). The results showed that planting distance had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on diameter, height, stand density, and crown density. The highest diameter was 47.60 cm at 4m × 4m in 1997 and the lowest was 20.91 cm at 2m × 2m. The highest height at 4m × 4m in 1998 was 22.24m and the lowest was 16.05 m. The highest individual density at 2m × 2m in 1997 was 761.67 ind/ha and the lowest at 4m × 4m was 166.67 ind/ha. The highest canopy density value was at a planting distance of 4m × 4m. Meanwhile, the carbon stock parameter showed results that were not significantly different with the three planting distances, the value ranged from 126.44-158.17 tons C/ha, this indicates compensation between tree size and number of trees per unit area

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the suitability of wood materials for exterior construction in tropical environments by considering structural functions, material characteristics, and the level of environmental exposure. The method employed was a qualitative descriptive approach through visual observation of several wood-based building objects, including residential houses, semi-open cafes, gazebos, and monuments. Data were collected through documentation and identification of construction elements, then classified based on wood species, element function, and suitability of use. The results indicate that wood with high strength and durability classes, such as ulin (E. zwageri) and bengkirai (Shorea laevis), is predominantly used in primary structural elements directly exposed to outdoor conditions, including columns, beams, and decking floors. Meanwhile, medium-strength wood such as meranti (Shorea spp.) and kamper (Dryobalanops aromatica) is more commonly applied in non-structural or semi-exterior elements with lower exposure levels. In addition, alternative materials such as bamboo and lightweight wood are utilized in secondary elements due to their efficiency and ease of construction. This study confirms that the suitability of wood materials in exterior construction is determined by the interaction between material properties, structural function, and environmental exposure level. The findings provide a conceptual basis for performance-based wood material selection to support adaptive and sustainable construction practices in tropical regions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparison of species composition, stand density, Shannon–Wiener diversity index, and the estimated biomass stock, carbon stock, CO₂ sequestration, and O₂ production of vegetation in conservation forests and production forests in Palangka Raya City. The analysis includes species composition, stand density, Shannon–Wiener diversity index, as well as estimates of biomass stock, carbon stock, CO₂ sequestration, and oxygen production. The results show that the number of vegetation species recorded was higher in dense vegetation cover than in sparse vegetation cover, with diversity indices ranging from low to moderate. Stand density was dominated by the sapling stage, indicating a normal regeneration pattern. The potential biomass and carbon stock of vegetation in conservation forests were higher (538.321 tons/ha and 253.011 tons C/ha) than in production forests (427.786 tons/ha and 201.059 tons C/ha). CO₂ sequestration was also greater in conservation forests (928.551 tons CO₂/ha) than in production forests (737.888 tons CO₂/ha). O₂ production showed a similar pattern, with higher values in conservation forests (675.539 tons O₂/ha) than in production forests (536.828 tons O₂/ha). Dense vegetation and the tree growth stage contributed the most to all parameters. These results confirm that vegetation structure and stand density strongly influence forest ecosystem functions in climate change mitigation..

Abstract

Meranti tembaga (Shorea leprosula Miq.) is a fast-growing tree species with high economic value and an important role in reforestation and industrial forest plantation development. However, the success of seedling cultivation is often constrained by pest and disease attacks that may reduce seedling quality. This study aims to identify the types of pests and diseases attacking meranti tembaga seedlings, as well as to analyze their frequency, intensity, and level of damage. The research was conducted at the Permanent Nursery of BPDAS-HL Kahayan, Central Kalimantan, using 600 seedlings aged approximately four months. The results revealed three major pests, namely the grasshopper (Valanga nigricornis), the Asian tramp snail (Bradybaena similaris), and the mini snail (Subulina octona), along with three leaf spot diseases caused by Pestalotia sp., Colletotrichum sp., and Curvularia sp.. Pest attacks reached a frequency of 13.32% with an intensity of 2.76%, while diseases reached 30% with an intensity of 6.67%. Overall, the damage level was categorized as mild. Preventive measures can be taken by regulating humidity, weeding, and managing plant spacing in the nursery.

Abstract

The socio-economic characteristics of communities living near forests are variables that need to be taken into account when formulating forest management objectives. HKm Sabedo is one of nine HKms in Sumbawa that are managed using an agroforestry system. Research objectives: 1) to describe agroforestry practices in HKm Sabedo; 2) to identify the socio-economic characteristics of farmer managers; and 3) to estimate farmers' income equivalent to rice. The method used is a descriptive method. The social characteristics measured are: age, family members, education level, health level, and length of stay. Economic characteristics: land area owned, HKm cultivated land area, and farmers' income from HKm land. The results of the study indicate that the agroforestry pattern applied is a combination of MPTs, plantation crops, and seasonal crops. There are 22 types cultivated, and only 8 are traded. The average age of farmers is 34 years old, with an average of 2 dependents per household, and an educational background of junior high school to senior high school. Health status is classified as good, and 88.58% of farmers have been members of their community for over 31 years. The average land area under HKm is 1.3 hectares, and the average land ownership is over 0.5 hectares, placing them in the category of medium-sized farmers. The average income from HKm land is Rp. 15,643,974 per year, equivalent to 1,141 kg of rice (assuming an average rice price of Rp. 13,716). With an average of 2 family members, this rice-equivalent income falls within the non-poor criteria

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the composition, describe the species diversity, and assess the rarity of plant species with threatened status at the Lapak Jaru Forest Park (Tahura), Gunung Mas Regency. Plant data were collected using the quadrat method, with plot units placed along observation trails in three management blocks (Utilization, Plant Collection, and Protection). This study successfully identified 59 plant species belonging to 34 genera and 23 families. Shorea sp. and Shorea seminis consistently dominated strongly across all study blocks and growth phases. Plant density values simultaneously decreased with increasing growth stages. There was no indication of species dominance concentration (C = 0.06–0.20), the H’ value is classified as moderate (1 < H’ ≤ 3.22), reflecting sufficient species diversity and relative abundance; the richness index ranges from 2.49 to 4.83, generally classified as moderate (R = 3.5–5.0); and the evenness index is nearly even (E = 0.76–0.95). Two species are classified as threatened: Ramin (Gonystylus bancanus) in the CR (Critically Endangered) category and Ulin (Eusideroxylon zwageri) in the VU (Vulnerable) category.

Abstract

Indonesia has the third largest tropical rainforest in the world, dominated by Dipterocarpaceae family, including meranti (Shorea spp.), which has high economic value. Shorea platyclados plays an important role in the revegetation of logged-over forests in Indonesia, making it essential for forest rehabilitation and production forest management. This study aimed to analyze the growth performance and natural regeneration potential of S. platyclados in Gunung Dahu Research Forest. The study was conducted in four blocks (Blocks 4, 15, 20, and 21e), observing diameter at breast height (DBH), total tree height, number of individuals, slope, elevation, and canopy cover. The results showed that the average diameter ranged from 39,40–45,16 cm (MAI 1,52–1,74 cm year⁻¹), and the average stand height ranged from 18,49–22,34 m (MAI 0,68–0,86 m year⁻¹). Overall, both diameter and height growth were classified as very fast. Slope significantly affected diameter but had no significant effect on height, whereas canopy cover had a highly significant effect on both diameter and height. The natural regeneration potential of S. platyclados was categorized as good, indicated by 206 seedlings with an average density of 123.214 individuals ha⁻¹.
