Abstract

High interest in developing oil palm plantations increases land value and relaxes land suitability criteria. Flat topography, specifically peatlands, has been targeted as potential new areas for development since the 1990s. Peatlands are acidic, so improving soil pH with lime, specifically CaCO3, is crucial for oil palm seedling growth. Mycorrhiza presents an effective alternative for nutrient absorption. The study found that mycorrhiza and CaCO3 did not significantly affect plant height and stem girth in oil palms. Lime application especially increased soil pH, with the best treatment being 400 gr of CaCO3 per polybag. Meanwhile, mycorrhiza significantly infected oil palm roots, with the best treatment being 40 gr per polybag. The combination of mycorrhiza and lime did not significantly affect plant growth parameters, but the best treatment was 40 gr of mycorrhiza and 400 gr of lime per polybag.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of overload and load imbalance on the service life of transformers in 20 kV distribution substations. Distribution transformers function vitally in the power distribution system, but often face problems such as overload and load imbalance that can affect their performance. The research method used is a quantitative approach with field measurements, focusing on evaluating transformer loading conditions. The measurement results show that the transformer operates at an overload with a loading percentage reaching 109.8%, and a load imbalance of 19.16%. These findings indicate that these conditions can cause an increase in operating temperature, damage insulation, and shorten the life of the transformer. The combination of overload and load imbalance accelerates transformer damage and reduces its reliability, which ultimately has a negative impact on the continuity of electricity supply to consumers. This study recommends the importance of effective load monitoring and management to maintain transformer performance and improve the quality of electricity supply. The results of this study are expected to provide insight for distribution system managers in an effort to improve the efficiency and operational reliability of distribution transformers.

Abstract

Isolation is the most important and inseparable thing in high voltage equipment. This isolation serves to separate two or more electrical conductors that are under voltage, so that there will be no electric jump or spark between the conductors. Air in normal conditions (air pressure 1013 mBar and temperature 20oC) has a certain breakdown voltage against high alternating voltage. Gas insulating materials, especially air, are insulating materials that are widely used in high voltage equipment because air in ideal conditions is a perfect insulator and is also the most widely used because it is easy, cheap and simple. In this test, room temperature conditions, conditions above and below room temperature are applied to ball-plane electrodes and needle-plane electrodes with different gap distances, to see how much influence the shape of the electrode, temperature, gap distance and voltage polarity have on the dielectric breakdown strength of air. Based on the measurement results at different gap distances, the characteristics of the increase in air breakdown voltage are obtained due to the influence of the gap distance between the two electrodes. The measurement results at different polarities show that the rougher, smaller and sharper electrodes with positive polarity will more easily release electrons. Keywords: insulation, air conditions, high voltage.

Abstract

The utilization of empty palm fruit bunches (EPFB) biomass as an alternative fuel for Steam Power Plants (PLTU) is a promising solution to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while increasing the utilization of palm oil industry waste. EPFB is a solid waste generated from the palm oil extraction process and has a high carbon content, making it a viable renewable energy source. This study aims to analyze the energy potential derived from the combustion of EPFB and the energy conversion efficiency in a PLTU system. The methodology includes the analysis of fuel characteristics, such as calorific value, moisture content, ash content, and combustion efficiency, compared to coal as a conventional fuel. Additionally, the study evaluates the environmental impact of utilizing EPFB as an alternative fuel, especially in terms of carbon emissions and energy efficiency. The results indicate that EPFB has an average calorific value of 15-18 MJ/kg, which is sufficient for use as fuel in co-firing systems with coal in PLTU. Using EPFB as an alternative fuel can also reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 30%compared to pure coal combustion. Economically, the utilization of EPFB can lower operational costs and support sustainable energy policies in Indonesia. Thus, the utilization of EPFB biomass in PLTU can provide an efficient and environmentally friendly renewable energy solution. Further implementation requires optimization of combustion technology and policy studies to support sustainable biomass use in power generation.

Abstract

The distribution transformer is a very vital component for medium voltage distribution systems. However, it is not uncommon for distribution transformers to experience interference. One of them is transformer overload. The cause of the overload is the load attached to the transformer which becomes hot and results in an increase in the winding temperature in the transformer coil. The increase in winding temperature can cause damage to the winding insulation on the transformer coil which is at risk of damage to the transformer and can result in the interruption of electricity distribution to consumers. According to references, ideally a transformer is loaded at 80% of the maximum capacity of the transformer. But the reality in the field is that there are still many distribution transformers that are loaded beyond their maximum capacity. One effort that can be done to deal with this is to increase the power capacity (uprating). After the distribution transformer uprating activity, it can be seen that the percentage of load served by the distribution transformer which was previously overloaded can be reduced.
