Abstract

This study intends to find out the effectiveness of using picture as teaching media in teaching WH-Question. The Subject consisted of 10 young aged students attending SEKAMI during the period November 2018 – February 2019. The data were collected through objective test pre-experimental design of one group pre-test post-test. The data were analyzed based on descriptive statistics, in which the mean of pre-test was compared to the mean of post-test. The finding shows that students improved their achievement after being treated with picture. The mean of post-test is higher than the mean of pre-test (X2 is higher than that of X1 = 82.5 > 61.5). This indicates that the use of picture as a teaching media was interesting and made the students easy to understand the situation that had been explained to them. Keywords: WH-Question, Young learners, teaching through picture.

Abstract

This research aimed to make the learning design possible for the development of motor cycle and the coordination of the eyes, hands, brain of the child and carry out the whole plan with the best. Through cooperative learning methods can improve the fine motor skills of children from an average result of fine motor skills of children in collaborative activities in groups. into a medium used in a game with the aim that children can train their fine motor skills. Through this game children are invited to be able to develop creativity through collaborative activities and can develop fine motor skills through these learning activities. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach according to the Kemmis model and MC Taggart. According to Kemmis and Mc Taggart (in Yunus, 2009: 105) describe action research as a set that aims to improve and evaluate decisions and actions aimed at implementing these actions. The discussion of the results of the study was directed at the implementation of the research cycle I and cycle II by following the 4 stages of research, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. Thus the learning achievement of children is 82% of the target of 80% who are successful, so this study in class II action research was declared successful and no longer needed to be continued in the next cycle. Finally, It can be conclude that Cooperative learning can add insight to the teacher in choosing the right learning model to be applied in class according to the objectives of each learning that will be carried out. Keywords: Application; Cooperative Learning Models; Children;  Kindergarten

Abstract

Speaking as one of the productive language skills and is an important activity in daily activities as meaningful interaction between humans is still not optimal in the Japanese language study program from an explanation before, this purpose of this study is to achieve the goal of speaking skills; the permitted curriculum in the Japanese Language Education study program, the development competency based curriculum in 2009 provides courses: Kaiwa 1 (会話 1) Conversation 1、 Kaiwa 2 (会話 2) Conversation 2、 Kaiwa 3 (会話 3) Conversation 3、 Kaiwa 4 (会話 4) Conversation 4、 Kaiwa Enshuu (会話 演習) Conversation Deepening and one special course for Japanese speech skills, Nihongo Supiichi (日本語 ス ピ ー チ) Japanese Language Speech. In line with that idea, an important strategy in this learning is to teach students to be able to connect each concept with reality rather than emphasizing how much knowledge must be remembered and memorized. This research used CTL approaches which is contextual learning can be applied in any curriculum, any subject or field of study with a class regardless of the circumstances. In line with what was discussed by the Ministry of National Education, there are Seven (7) main principles that must be developed by teachers in the CTL approach. The contextual approach in Kaiwa learning is also expected to facilitate the achievement of learning goals, namely the aim of speaking Japanese skills to improve students' speaking abilities and provide many opportunities for the practice of talking with friends while making students actively involved in the learning process. Therefore, it is recommended that in Kaiwa learning (the name of the course for speaking skills in Japanese), I - IV this contextual approach can be used even maximized. The researcher realizes that this learning model is not the only one that is most suitable and relevant in teaching Japanese speaking skills courses but can be used as enrichment material. Keywords: Contextual Approaches; Kaiwa Learning; Speaking; Japanese Language.

Abstract

This research aims at applying the jeremiad approach in literary class particularly using short story for the purpose of finding a proper teaching design or model for character education. It is further hoped to obtain a teaching model on the text-based learning for the purpose of improving the quality of teaching of English as Foreign language (EFL) and the shaping of students’ character. These purposes will be gained through qualitative inquiry which is marked by the involvement of students as the respondents and the researchers in its implementation. The students will be considered as the objects of this study. Those students involves in British and American Prose class in English Education Department, Universitas Negeri Manado. They will be taught using the Jeremiad Approach and later will be observed as well as interview. The data of the research are mostly taken from the result of interview and observation. The interview is done with the questions of how the shaping of their character as short story is used by combining it with the jeremiad approach. The observation is carried out through students’ intellectual diary which is written in every meeting. The data are analyzed and coded in the way of Grounded Theory. The findings show the implementation of the T-Ex approach had provided students the opportunities to involve in active sharing and discussion within which they observed, questioned, tried, associated, comprehended, analyzed, created, presented, implemented, respected, experienced, and accepted as well as evaluated. In addition, the use of the students’ intellectual diaries, a kind of daily note, contributed not only to monitor the advantage of the approach to the class but also alternatively to assess authentically students’ absorption as well as competency outputs. Keywords: T-Ex Approach, Shortstory, EFL Class, Character Education
