Abstract

PT X produces cold-rolled steel coils, followed by a series of testing processes such as cutting, adhesive testing, and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) testing. These testing processes require significant time and effort and must be performed promptly. Additionally, the results need to be delivered on time. In the coating department, there is only one worker. This leads to complaints about the heavy workload, which can impact both the physical and mental health of the worker. Therefore, a workload analysis is necessary to achieve a more optimal performance evaluation. The methods used include cardiovascular load (CVL) measurement and the NASA-TLX questionnaire. The research results show a CVL value of 31.93%. The NASA-TLX score reached 88.75%, indicating a very high workload category. Proposed improvements to reduce physical workload include redesigning the rear part of the cutting machine by adding a trolley. Additionally, solutions to reduce mental workload include hiring additional workers at specific times or redistributing job tasks in the coating area.

Abstract

The rapid growth in demand for palm oil throughout the world has triggered the development of plantations which has an impact on the accumulation of palm oil waste. The resulting waste consists of empty oil palm fruit bunches, palm kernel shells, fiber, stems and fronds which have significant calorific value. This research aims to utilize liquid and solid waste produced from palm oil processing, especially liquid waste which is currently minimally utilized. One solution to this problem is briquette making to evaluate the characteristics of briquettes produced from a combination of shells, empty fruit bunches, solid decanters and liquid palm oil mill waste. The method applied in this research is an experiment that begins with literature study, survey, briquette making, testing, and data analysis. The test results showed that the highest heating value in sample A2 was 25137.95 cal/gram, the highest water content was in A2 with a value of 7.1%, the highest combustion rate was recorded in A1 at 0.16%, the highest ash content was obtained from A2 with a value of 14.4%, and the highest density was in A2B3 at 0.58%.

Abstract

This research was conducted at UMKM Berkah Turah, which is engaged in the smoked fish processing industry, with the aim of identifying and controlling product quality through the Six Sigma approach. The main problem faced is the high number of defective products, such as burnt fish, mushy meat texture, and uneven maturity. The Six Sigma method using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) approach was applied to identify the causes of the problem and formulate improvement solutions. The analysis results show that the main causes of defects come from human factors, traditional methods, non-uniform raw materials, uncontrolled environment, and inadequate tools. Based on DPMO data of 33,420 and a sigma level of 3.33, it is concluded that the production process is still within the control limits but requires further improvement to sustainably improve quality. Proposed improvements include increased worker supervision, use of modern smoking equipment, procurement of fresh fish raw materials from fishermen, and expansion of production space.

Abstract

Long and unstandardized setup times are a major source of inefficiency in the cardboard packaging production process, particularly on the Flexo 4 machine, which requires 1.5 to 2 hours for setup. This study aims to reduce setup time by implementing the SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Dies) method. Three internal activities—ink retrieval, material preparation, and plate preparation—were converted into external activities, reducing setup time by up to 66.67%. Observations were made on three work groups during shift 1, with average setup times ranging from the longest to the shortest: Group C (33.9 minutes), Group A (32.3 minutes), and Group B (30.05 minutes). ANOVA results show no significant differences between the groups. The longest setup time occurred in Group C, with 7,500 pcs and 4 plates, taking 75 minutes. This was due to the Mounting Plate process and limited operator resources.

Abstract

Palm oil is an industrial/plantation plant that is useful as a producer of cooking oil, industrial oil and fuel. In the world, Indonesia is the largest country that produces palm oil. Most of the harvesters of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) and oil palm fronds still use manual methods with egrek and dodos harvesting tools. Using a manual egrek requires quite a lot of energy and a long time in the harvesting process, therefore a tool is needed that can reduce energy and time but the price is still affordable for oil palm farmers. The egrek pipe is a tool used to cut fronds and fresh fruit bunches. Iron pipe is a mixture of aluminum containing 4% copper. Pipes and pipes can be modified into cutters of fronds and fresh fruit bunches. Modification of the tool utilizes iron pipes, iron plates, iron sticks and pipes. The principle is done by moving the tool that is designed and made forward and backward.
