Abstract

Kamasan, a village in the Klungkung regency, Bali, not only gains its popularity from classical painting. The Village is also widely noticeable for its metallurgy business, especially Pis Bolong Industry. In other areas, the coin is referred to as Uang Kepeng. Historically, the existence of Pis Bolong or holed coin in Bali was brought by Chinese traders between the eighth to fifteen centuries. It has been circulating as a currency for at least 1,100 years. Today, in Bali, Pis Bolong consists of Pancadatu, combining several elements such as Gold, silver, copper, zinc, and iron. The coin plays an important role in Hindu religious activities entrenched in Balinese society. However, since the supply of old holed coins cannot fulfill the demand of Balinese ceremonies today, The Government of Bali decided to reproduce the holed coin. It is viewed as a solution to preserve Pis Bolong's existence despite the currency no longer serving as a payment method. Through the Bali Heritage Trust, the officer made the standardized version of the new Pis Bolong, which is suggested to consist of the Pancadatu element. The first pioneer of Pancadatu-based Pis Bolong manufacture is UD. Kamasan, one of the home-industry businesses from Klungkung that supplies the needs of Pis Bolong on the island. Creativity in creating Pis Bolong handicraft products, in addition to elevating the current value of Pis Bolong, also acts as an effort of cultural preservation that reflects the local wisdom of the Balinese people.

Abstract

Subak temple serves as a socio-religious adhesive for agrarian society in carrying out its function as a member of this ancient system. One of the temples with an important function for an agrarian society in the Mengwi area, Badung, is the Taman Ayun Temple. Together with the Ulun Danu Batur Temple, these two holy places have a religious function for the Subak Pakerisan and Subak Catur Angga Batukaru areas. The two areas consist of five broad rice fields with a water distribution area that reaches 19,500 ha. In 1634, Taman Ayun Temple was constructed by order of Mengwi Kingdom, I Gusti Agung Putu after he moved the location of His kingdom from Belayu to Mengwi. Serving as the Paibon Temple for the Mengwi kingdom Royal Family, the Taman Ayun temple was magnificently built as a form of devotion to the royal ancestors. Later on, this temple developed as a Penyawangan for several large temples in Bali, which in the past could not be accessed in a day by the Mengwi people. Taman Ayun Temple also acts as a place to regulate water for the activities of the Subak community around the site. After UNESCO recognized Taman Ayun Temple as part of the manifestation of the Tri Hita Karana philosophy in 2012, the number of visits to Taman Ayun Temple increased significantly. Even though it has become a tourist-visit destination, visitors must obey several things when visiting this cultural heritage site. Apart from that, there are various interesting destinations around Taman Ayun Temple which are also worth visiting by tourists to know more deeply about the culture-based life adopted by the Balinese people.

Abstract

As an effort to erase multiple blank spots in the north, east, and west parts of Bali Island, The Bali Provincial Government worked on an integrated communication tower project in Pegayaman Village, Buleleng Regency. The Tower with the name Turyapada would be the next international-level landmark in the Buleleng district. Turyapada tower is an integrated communication building that aims as a transmitter to erase multiple blank spots in Buleleng, Jembrana and Karangasem areas. Built at an altitude of 1,521 meters above sea level, the tower would have cutting-edge facilities to support its operation as a communication tower and tourism object. The building concept is designed as a green building, reflecting the relationship between nature and Balinese culture. The architecture and technology of this building are designed to be environmentally friendly. Constructed on an area of 13,767.7 m2, the tower park is divided into six zones: the educational zone, communal zone, commercial zone (UMKM), recreational zone, management zone, and plantation zone. The tower’s center area would provide various educational facilities, such as a planetarium, a skywalk glass bridge, and a 360-degree rotating restaurant. In the vicinity, planned to be gardens for flowers, orchards, children's play areas, glamping, flying fox, SMEs arcades, and restaurants. For the visitor’s convenience, a 1-hectare parking area has been prepared, and a gondola to carry the visitor 1.4 km from the parking area to the main tower. The facilities are expected to provide new jobs and become a new economic growth center for the local area.

Abstract

Tukad Unda is a volcanic-formed river with areas for drainage and deposition of lava material resulting from volcanic eruptions. The area covers the Karangasem Regency in the upstream and Klungkung Regency in the downstream parts. In the Balinese language, Tukad means river, and Unda means terraced. Hence, Tukad Unda means terraced river. The obvious point is that Tukad Unda flows through a dam with two overlapping terraces. Thus, the flowing water forms a level resembling a mini waterfall. The place is one of a kind for those who enjoy calm and breezy nature. Besides having clear water with schools of small fish, the area is also surrounded by soothing trees. Tourists can either stop by the available restaurants or play in the water. The water barrage of Tukad Unda has become a tourist destination that attracted much attention from visitors in recent years. Its serene, lush natural atmosphere, gurgling water, and a curtain waterfall on the dam wall showcase a relieving experience in downtown Klungkung. Tourists can now comfortably visit the Tukad Unda dam area since the local village has managed the area as a complete tourist destination with various supporting facilities. However, Tukad Unda is a river prone to mud flooding, especially when Mount Agung experiences increased volcanic activity. Thus, the central and local governments focus on developing supporting facilities to strengthen the Tukad Unda utilization. In addition, many studies show the potential of the Tukad Unda, along with its watershed, which, when properly developed and managed, can significantly impact the welfare of the surrounding community.

The Balinese workforce is one of the best workers with expertise in tourism, recognized by various companies engaged in hospitality services in different parts of the world. Along with the times, a few Balinese people migrated out of their homeland to pursue careers overseas. They spread to various corners of the world, especially to well-developed countries, for a better chance of living. Art and its strategic position in the Balinese Hindu community is the people’s expression of gratitude to the Higher being. As part of the religious activities of the Hindu community, a Ceremony or religious ritual held at the temple (holy place) always showcases performing arts. The customs are strongly associated with identity; for instance, despite being far away from Bali, the Balinese diaspora in Belgium commemorated Balinese Hindu holy days festively. In Pura Agung Santi Bhuana, Belgium, the Balinese Hindu Diaspora of Europe attended the temple ceremony in the early morning. The members of the social group Banjar performed their service by staging a dance and gamelan orchestra to accompany the holy day ceremony. The talented Balinese Diaspora on dance and play gamelan instruments constitute a significant part of the total population. They support the Government’s tourism promotion programs of the Republic of Indonesia through their traditional religious activities. Subsequently, they enlivened the existence of temples in Europe, such as in Belgium, Hamburg, and Berlin, with their stunning performing dance and percussion art service. Balinese Hindu community who lives in Europe could maintain steadfastness by respecting their own culture amidst the onslaught of a global culture. He admitted that global influence penetrated all practical activities and influenced all aspects of life. Albeit the unevaded facts, thousands of the Balinese diaspora and the local citizens respectfully attended the religious movement.

Abstract

The Suwung landfill, located in Suwung Kauh Village, Denpasar City, has been gradually terminated since November 2022. Official closure began in March 2023 by the Bali Provincial Forestry and Environment Service and continued with the operation of three new integrated waste management sites in Denpasar City. Governor Koster argued that the previous policy related to the Suwung landfill was tactless. Its placement in Denpasar city discouraged the strategic area in Bali as well as the capital city of Bali. The growth of Bali's economy by 61% in 2019 was mostly due to the expansion of hotels, restaurants, and other tourism-related enterprises. It led to a rising figure of visitors, a movement of laborers, and increased population density on the island's business corridors. In contrast, Bali's dense population harms the ecosystem, essential to the island's reputation as a tourist destination. According to recent conversations, the trash management system will be accommodated at three Integrated Waste Treatment Sites (TPST) in Denpasar City beginning in June 2023. The TPS3R will no longer be built with the TPST, which is expected to be fully operational in June 2023.
