Abstract

Background: Diastema is a space between two or more adjacent teeth that can interfere with the patient's aesthetic appearance. Various aesthetic treatments can be performed for diastema closure on anterior teeth, one of which is through the installation of veneers. The lithium disilicate ceramic material produces the thinnest veneer and has better properties than other materials, and is able to cover the anterior diastema with a fairly large width. Purpose: To describe the aesthetic procedure for closing the diastema of anterior teeth using indirect lithium disilicate ceramic veneer. Case(s): A 29-years-old male patient came with a complaint of dissatisfaction with her smile because of a gap between teeth 12 and 13. The teeth are in vital condition with normal overjet and overbite, and there are no systemic health problems. Case Management: The management of diastema closure on teeth 12 and 13 was carried out with indirect lithium disilicate veneer treatment. Lithium disilicate veneer has promising aesthetic results due to its enamel-like nature, minimally invasive because it requires minimal tooth reduction, good strength, and did not cause gingival irritation. As a result, this treatment could increase self-confidence of the patient. Conclusion: Diastema closure treatment using indirect lithium disilicate veneer is an effective treatment, gives satisfactory results and can increase the patient's confidence.

Abstract

Background : Dental caries occurs as a result of demineralization of the hard tissues of the teeth followed by the destruction of the organic matter, resulting in bacterial invasion and death of the pulp which can lead to pulp necrosis. One of the treatments for pulp necrosis is endodontic treatment. Endodontic treatment includes root canal preparation techniques, root canal irrigation materials, root canal dressing materials, and also root canal obturation techniques. In endodontic treatment can experience flare-ups. An endodontic flare-up is a pain or swelling after endodontic treatment that occurs in a relatively short time. Purpose : To describe the incidence of endodontic flare-ups in pulp necrosis at RSMKGP Universitas Airlangga. Methods : Conducted descriptive observasional research on patients who had endodontic treatment at UPF Dental Conservation, Dental and Oral Hospital, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Airlangga University in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Results : A total of 28 patients (30,1%) from 93 patients were experience pain or flare-ups after root canal treatment. Conclusion : From the result of this study, it can be concluded that there is still an incidence of endodontic flare-ups in pulp necrosis at RSKGMP Universitas Airlangga which is 30,1%.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia is currently experiencing Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic which affects all sectors of life, therefore Indonesia is starting to prepare for New Normal era, including in health care sector. COVID-19 was previously known as novel Coronavirus Disease-19 (nCoV-19), where World Health Organization (WHO) declared it as a global pandemic in March 2020. New Normal era is an era of coexistence with COVID-19, resulting in new habits that were rarely or never practiced before. One practice that can be applied in health care sector is to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to treat COVID-19 patients to prevent casualties for health workers. Health care providers are prone to contract aerosol and droplet transmission while treating patients, resulting in cytokine storm, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and acute lung injury (ALI), which leads to death. Purpose: This mini review study used to explain the using of artificial intelligence in the new normal era against pandemic COVID-19 in the field of health services. Reviews: This pandemic COVID-19 restricts all of the communication between person to person. It also challenged the health service sector because the health service sector is the first line to combat the COVID-19. It is now popular to use artificial intelligence. This using can be used to help the health service sector in combating the COVID-19 pandemic especially in this new normal era. Conclusion: COVID-19 pandemic affects all aspects of life, especially health care sector, therefore AI use is important to prevent the deaths of health workers because of this pandemic.

Abstract

Background: Crown Lengthening is a surgical procedure performed to create a symmetrical gingival line and is carried out to expose necessary additional tooth structure. A short clinical crown occurs as a result of dental malformations, eruption disharmony, and genetic variation. Purpose: The purpose of this case report is to explain the treatment management of Crown Lengthening over the case of diastema closure by indirect veneer restoration. Case: 32 years old female presented with a chief complaint over a space between her anterior maxillary teeth. She wants to rectify her smile. Case Management: The management in this case are preparation of Digital Smile Design (DSD), Crown Lengthening on 11 and 21, and Indirect Veneer on 11, 21, 22. Conclusion: Aesthetical rehabilitation could be attained by an indirect veneer treatment followed by a gingival management which is Crown Lengthening.

Abstract

Background: Carious lesions that do not be treated, becomes infected and inflamed, leading to irreversible pulpitis. One of the treatments for irreversible pulpitis is root canal treatment. In root canal treatment can cause flare-ups. Purpose: Obtaining a data base on flare-ups with a diagnosis of irreversible pulpitis at RSKGMP and obtaining a picture of flare-ups in irreversible pulpitis based on root canal preparation techniques, root canal irrigation materials, root canal dressing materials, and root canal obturation techniques. Methods: The study used was a descriptive observational study with a study design cross sectional in patients with a diagnosis of irreversible pulpitis who had received root canal treatment at the UPF Dental Conservation RSKGMP University of Airlangga in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Results: A total of 14 patients (28%) of 50 patients experienced (flare-up). Conclusion: The incidence flare-ups of root canal treatment in irreversible pulpitis at RSKGMP University of Airlangga is 28%.

Abstract

Background: The mechanical properties of pulp-capping materials may affect their resistance to fracture during placement of a final restorative material or while supporting an overlying restoration over time when the mastication process is carried out. The combination of calcium hydroxide and propolis as a pulp capping material has the weakness on mechanical properties so it is necessary to add another material to improve its mechanical properties. Propylene glycol is used as a vehicle because it improves its handling property. Purpose: To explain how the compressive and flexural strength of the pulp capping material in the combination of calcium hydroxide, propolis, and propylene glycol compared without adding of propylene glycol. Methods: The study used 4 treatment groups with each group consisting of 7 replications. Control group is a combination of calcium hydroxide-propolis with a ratio of 1: 1.5, group 1 is a combination of calcium hydroxide-propolis-propylene glycol 20% with a ratio of 1:1.5:0.375, group 2 is a combination of calcium hydroxide-propolis-propylene glycol 30% with a ratio of 1:1.5:0.375, and group 3 is a combination of calcium hydroxide-propolis-propylene glycol 30% with a ratio of 1:1.5:0.375. Materials were mixed according to comparison and printed on a cylindrical mold with the size of 4 mm x 6 mm and a block mold with the size 65 mmx10 mmx6 mm. Then, the compressive and flexural strength was tested using an Autograph test instrument. Results: The statistical analysis was performed with ANOVA and Tukey HSD’s post-hoc test. There were statistically significant differences on compressive and flexural strength between groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: Addition of propylene glycol in the combination of calcium hydroxide and propolis have an influence of increasing of compressive and flexural strength, especially in the addition of 40% propylene glycol.

Abstract

Background: The need for dental esthetics is very important in recent years. Fulfilling aesthetic demands with both non-invasive and minimally invasive techniques can maintain tissue continuity. A 38 year old female patient came to the clinic with an esthetic complaint of maxillary anterior teeth. The following case report describes a step by step complex aesthetic treatment of a patient with multiple caries. Appealing aesthetic results will restore the patient's smile through restorative treatment in dentistry. Purpose: The purpose of this case report is to explain the management of complex aesthetic treatment of patients with multiple caries Case: A 38-year-old female patient complained her upper front teeth is turning black. The patient complained that her teeth had hurt ± 3 months ago and sometimes felt sore. The patient wants her teeth to be treated because she feels less confident when she smiles and wants to fix these teeth. The history of treatment on the tooth in question have had root canal treatment and been filled since 8 years ago. The tooth has had braces (orthodontic) treatment and was removed ± 7 years ago. The patient stated that she had no systemic health disorder. Case management : The treatment of this complex case were done using root canal treatment, endodontic retreatment, direct and indirect veneer, dowel, and crown. Conclusion: complex aesthetic treatment of patients with multiple were done aiming for good aesthetic result

Abstract

Background: Energy drink consumption has been popular in people age 18-35 years old. A few literature showed that this drink can cause damage to teeth and composite due to its acidity. The use of fiber reinforced composite has been increasing due to its good mechanical properties and aesthetic. Fiber reinforced composite has fiber shaped fillers that can withstand mastication forces. A restoration material has to face the complex oral environment to succeed clinically. Compressive strength test is needed to predict the durability of restoration materials against mastication forces. Purpose: To determine the effect of energy drink citric acid immersion to fiber reinforced composite compressive strength. Methods: 32 cylinder shaped fiber reinforced composite samples with 8mm tall and 4mm diameter were divided into two groups. The first group was immerse in distilled water (K1) as control, and the second group (K2) was immerse in energy drink citric acid. The samples were immersed in an incubator at ±37⁰C for 7 days. After 7 days, samples were washed in water, dried with tissue, and then undergo compressive strength test with Autograph machine at crosshead speed of 10mm/minute. The data were then analyzed using Independent t-test. Results: The mean compressive strength of K1 group was 1469.63 MPa and K2 group 1439.57 MPa. The mean value of K2 group was slightly lower than K1 group, but statistically, there was no significant difference between the 2 groups. Conclusion: Energy drink citric acid immersion has no effect on fiber reinforced composite compressive strength.

Abstract

Background. Hemisection Is a procedure for amputation of roots and resection of teeth performed due to periodontal abnormalities involving bifurcation, abnormalities in one root, very deep gingival margin due to caries or fracture. Tooth extraction is a process of alveolar dental expenditure , where the teeth are no longer able to do the treatment again . After the extraction of one of the roots the tooth socket heals slowly. Some factors such as lack of blood supply, dehydration, exudate excess, or foreign bodies hamper socket healing. Silver Ion Water is liquid embedded with silver ion which is known to promote wound healing. This study utilizes silver ion water of 15 ppm concentrate. Purpose. To understand the process of wound healing after 1 root tooth extraction the water supply of silver ions Method. Marmot teeth removed , then the wound was given H2O2 for 3 days to make chronic inflammation . Samples were divided into 3 groups . Wounds of the control group were not given water silver ions , group 1 was given a silver ions water for 3 days , group 2 was given a silver ion water for 5 days . On day 8 , the socket is cut and fabricated plate HPA .Results . The number of fibroblasts , chronic inflammatory cells , blood vessels of the control group was 64 , 97 , 22 , group 1 was 84 , 78 , 31 , group 2 was 119 , 40 , 45 .Conclusion . Silver Ion Water shown to accelerate wound healing after one root extraction .

Abstract

Background : Root perforation results in the communication between root canal walls and periodontal space (external tooth surface). It is commonly caused by an operative procedural accident or pathological alteration (such as extensive dental caries, and external or internal inflammatory root resorption). The diagnosis of dental pulp and/or periapical tissue previous to root perforation is an important predictor of prognosis. Case : A female patient came to Dental Conservative University of Airlangga with complaints of perforated lower left molars. On the objective examination obtained negative vitality test, positive on bite test. On radiographic examination, a radiolucent on bifurcation was performed Case management : The tooth was treated by hemisection. Root canal treatment was carried out in the distal canals. Afterwards, the tooth was split mesio-distally. The mesial root was extracted, and the distal root was retained and restored with PFM Crown. Discussion : Hemisection is a useful alternative treatment to extraction to save the multi-rooted teeth by endodontic approach, which includes the root canal treatment of the remaining roots and restoring them with suitable restorative material to splinting it with the adjacent tooth to decrease the risk of displacement followed by a fixed prosthodontic prosthesis to maintain the occlusal balance. Conclusion : Hemisection with subsequent prosthetic rehabilitation can be a viable alternative to retain severely decayed mandibular molar.
