Abstract

Self-sufficiency of soybeans and sugar is one of main targets of  the Ministry of Agriculture’s strategic plan in 2014. This government’s target may not be achieved due to the lack of land for cultivation. This research aims to analyze the efficiency of land use by using monoculture and intercropping methods for growing sugarcane and soybean. The results of experiment studies showed that the Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) between sugarcane and soybean has a value greater than 1in overall, indicating that the intercropping pattern is more efficient and productive than the monocultures cropping. The highest LER is VMC76-16+Kaba varieties intercropped, which is 2.21, while the lowest LER is intercropped PSJK922+Argomulyo, which is 1.41. Based on financial analysis, the highest NPV is Rp126,852,727,00, the B/C ratio is 2.56 for intercropping of VMC 76-16 + Argomulyo. Based on these results, the area of 64501.99 ha sugarcane in Central Java can potentially increase the soybean area 32250.995 ha and its production  56,700 tons per year.

Abstract

Maize development is potential in West Sumatera. Maize is strategic commodity, because related to subsector development (feed) and other sector (food and feed industry). The aim of this research was to obtain maize promising lines capable to well adapt in dry acid soil, with pH <5. Research was conducted in farmer cultivation of district of Talawi, Sawahlunto, begin in September to December 2010 at dry acid soil (pH 4,57), using 12 promising lines from Balit Sereal Maros such as GH-1, GH-2, GH-3, GH-4, GH-5, GH-6, GH-7, GH-8, GH-9, GH-10, GH-11, GH-12, and one existing variety as control. The experimental design was a Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Land processed perfectly of the size map each 4x6 m. Distance plant 80x15 cm. The packages of fertilizers for maize are 300 kg urea+150 kg SP-36+50 kg KCl per hectare. The observation of the studies were plant growth yield component and yield. The result obtained two maize promising lines (GH-1 and GH-3) capable to produce dry pods yield approximately 4,5 tons/ha and 4,2 tons/ha at dry acid dry soil in Sawahlunto (pH<5).

Abstract

Alpinia purpurata flower is one type of cut flower with great opportunity as an exported flower for its attrac- tive shapes and colors. In order to gain maximum benefit from cut flowers as ornaments, post-harvest treatments require attention. One of those treatments is packing which aims to maintain the quality of cut flowers during transport or shipping. The objectives of this study were to determine the type of primary packaging material and the most suitable placement inside the packaging during transport in order to conserve the quality. Factorial Completely Randomized Design with 3 replications was used. To find out the effects of the treatments, analysis of variance was done using F-test. Difference among treatments was tested using LSD at 5% significance level. The results showed that the use of PP plastic as packaging material gave a significant difference on weight loss, flowers’ freshness during transport, freshness period during demonstration time and the amount of holding solution absorbed. Packaging technique with plastic as the packaging material gave the best result with longer freshness period (7.77 days), flowers had the lowest weight loss (0.71%), the flowers seemed quite fresh (score of 4) and were able to absorb more holding solution (4.81ml/stalk/day) during demonstration time and therefore they remained in fresh condition. One-way orientation of placement was the best treatment at weight loss (0.77%) and the amount of holding solution absorbed (5.04ml/stalk/day).

Abstract

Design of the wing planform depended on some geometry key factors such as aspect ratio, sweep angle, taper ratio, and angle of incidence. The search for optimum fl ight characteristic could be observed from aerody-namic coeffi cients, fl ight stability, fl ight dynamic, fl ight performance, and fl ight quality. To examine the design of the wing planform, this paper presented an experiment that modify few factors of wing geometry and simulated it concerning the launching phase of the unmanned air-vehicle or UAV using rocket as booster. The optimal design of the wing is a prerequisite for the UAV to achieve its main mission as a national defense missile. Using X-Plane v 8.6 as a fl ight simulation tool, the experimental results showed that a hybrid wing could produce an intermediate grade fl ight characteristic between rectangular wing and delta wing. Rectangular wing tended to produce a highly pitch-up trajectory when catapulted by a rocket booster, while delta wing produced a more stable pitch attitude and more better  fl ight performance. This experiment showed that hybrid wing was the appropriate choice for subsonic jet UAV that had to be launched by rocket.
