Abstract

The Lembang fault was located approximately 10 km to the north of Bandung City that crossed the Kecamatan Lembang City directe in east-west direction for 22 km length. The existence of this fault became very important because this fault crossed the densely-populated settlement and tourism area. Up to now, the level of the activity of this fault was still in matter of debate due to the insufficient of seismicity data and history resulted by the activation of this fault. One of the approaches to determine the level of the activity of the Lembang Fault is morphometry analysis. Paramater used to morphometry analysis comprise of ratio of valley floor width to valley height (Vf) and drainage basin asymmetry (AF). In addition to morphometry, sediment analysis sagpond also used to determine the fault activity. Result analysis of the two methods above, indicates that the Lembang an active fault with the movement down (normal fault).

Abstract

Adolescents are at high risk for a number of negative health consequences associated with early and unsafesexual activity. This study is aimed to analyze the effect of parental harmony on adolescents sexual risk behaviourin urban areas. There were 1,491 adolescents entered into the analysis. The result shows that adolescents whohad good parental harmony relationship accounted for 66% of the reduction to had sexual risk behaviour ratherthan those who did not. Adolescents who had juvenile delinquency increased 3.2-fold to had sexual risk behaviourrather than who did not. Main policy implication of this finding is the importance of parental harmony relationshipto reduce adolescents sexual risk behaviour.

Abstract

This research aims to describe and explain the influential factors in language choice in the multilingual society while attempting to correlate such factors with domains and role relations. By using field research methods that is by participant’s observation and in-depth interview, the data were collected from daily speech events in the various domains. The languages used daily by the speech community in Sinjai are Konjo language, Buginese language, Malayic-Buginese language, and Indonesian language. In situations where the social context favors multiple interethnics contacts, however, some speakers may choose to incorporate features from a dominant variety into their speech. There are some influential factors in language choice in the inter-ethnic communication. Firstly, the language abilities of the speaker and the addressee which includes accommodation, mobility, and educational aspects. Second, the setting and the situation, both official and non-official. Third, the participants in the interaction, which includes social status, social distance,  age, and presence of the third person.

Abstract

Soybean is the one of the most important food commodities after rice and maize. It is considered as significantprotein sources and is also used as raw material for several foods and feeds industries. The availabilityof soybean is mostly fulfilled from import, namely around 60% or 1.2 million ton/year. Therefore, the increaseof soybean productivity is an opportunity that should to be executed for minimizing the dependency of importedproduct. The development of soybean productivity for self supporting is very reasonable. The potencies, such as thetechnologies readiness (tolerant superior varieties and bio-fertilizer) and farming technology, are considered assuccess factors for supporting the increase of soybean productivities in sub-optimal lands. Meanwhile, the potencyof sub-optimal land for agriculture is still large quantity, namely 30.67 million hectares. The successful requiresthe supports of government policies and their commitments as well as the participation of farmer communities.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the correlation between speaking ability and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of cadets in Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pelayaran (STIP) Jakarta. The research was conducted in STIP because STIP has declared to produce internationally qualified seafarers. In line with its declaration, STIP always evaluates the cadets' English proficiency by Speaking test and TOEFL (Paper-Based TOEFL) every semester Population of this research was the first year cadets, batch 50. The respondents consisted of 20 cadets every major, so there were 60 cadets altogether. The instruments used in this research were interview form and TOEFL question set. This research showed that there was low positive correlation between speaking ability and TOEFL score. The correlation coefficient was 0.276. Therefore, it can be concluded that there are other factors influence TOEFL score. They are readiness, experience, and strategy.

Abstract

Development of hybrid rice using three-lines method in Indonesia is handicapped by low and varied restor-ing ability of restorer line. Most of available restorer line showed to have varied fertility in its F1 resulted from test cross. This experiment was executed to evaluate some crosses resulted anther culture seed and cytoplasmic male sterile as potential restorers. Amount of 32 crosses were planted and grew in rice fi eld. Observations were made on spikelet fertility, 50% fl owering age, anther color, and phenotypic acceptability. Result shows that 4 (four) crosses were found to have spikelet fertility of more than 75%. They were IR70731A/KA74-2, IR70364A/KA78-2, IR58025A/KA26-2, and IR70731A/KA15-2. This result indicated that the male parent of those crosses could be concluded as potential restorer lines

Abstract

The community of polychaeta at three seagrass beds (Thalassia hemprichii, Thalassia hemprichii-Cymodocea rotundata-Enhalus acoroides, Enhalus acoroides) in Pari Island of Jakarta was studied on June 2010. Three core samples (0.02 m2) were randomly collected from three seagrass beds. A total of 27 species belonging to 14 families was found, and the most of dominant species was Mediomastus californiensis (21–50% of the total individuals). T. hemprichii was the highest of value of H’ and J’ (2.301 and 0.926 respectively), while E. acoroides was the highest of value of D (0.282), so the community of polychaeta at T. hemprichii was more stable than other seagrass beds.

Abstract

Determination of cesium-137 in seawater was done using the hexacyanoferrate resin as ion exchanger from 3 point samplings of surface seawater. The hexacyanoferrate ion exchanger matrix was prepared by performing the reaction ofsilica gel supported with potassium hexacyanoferrate and copper (II) chloride. In order to test the performance of the ion exchanger, a batch experiment was performed. A known activity of cesium-137 was used to spike seawater then the hexacyanoferrate resin was added. The separated hexacyanoferrate resin was then counted with gamma spectrometer The cesium-I 37 concentration used in the work varies between 0.5 Bq-20 Bq while the results of the adsorbing efficiency varies between 58-96%. In time variation between 0.5-20 minutes, the adsorbing efficiency varies between 77-96% with highest efficiency at contact time 60 minutes. The hexacyanoferrate ion exchange columns were used to process the Jepara's seawater The calculated cesium-137 activities were 1.37 Bq/m3-2.76 Bq/m3.
