Abstract

Learner diversity is a fundamental issue in contemporary education and Islamic educational thought, which recognizes individual differences as part of human fitrah that must be developed through tarbiyah, guided through ta’lim, and refined through ta’dib. In science education, learner diversity is often discussed from psychological and instructional perspectives, while its interpretation within Islamic educational philosophy remains limited. This study aims to examine the relationship between auditory and kinesthetic learning preferences and students’ science achievement within an integrative perspective of Islamic education. A quantitative correlational design was employed involving 31 grade XII students at SMAN 1 Mutiara Beureunun, Indonesia. Data were collected using a learning preference questionnaire and a science achievement test, and analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results indicate a moderate and significant positive correlation between kinesthetic learning preference and science achievement (r = 0.483; p = 0.006), while auditory learning preference shows a very weak and non-significant relationship (r = 0.121; p = 0.518). These findings suggest that experiential and hands-on learning contributes more strongly to science achievement than passive receptive learning. From the perspective of Islamic education, these results reflect learner diversity as a manifestation of fitrah that requires continuous educational guidance through integrated processes of tarbiyah, ta’lim, and ta’dib. Therefore, learning preferences should be understood as descriptive variations in learner engagement that need to be accommodated through differentiated and holistic instructional approaches in science learning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how the Dayak Ngaju community in Marikit District, Katingan Regency, maintains the sustainability of its culture amid the pressures of modernization and globalization. The research specifically focuses on the forms of cultural preservation, adaptation strategies, and factors that support or hinder the continuity of Dayak Ngaju cultural practices. This study employed a qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings show that the sustainability of Dayak Ngaju culture is reflected in the continued implementation of traditional rituals, the active use of the Dayak Ngaju language in daily communication, and the transmission of cultural values through customary activities involving both elders and younger generations. However, the study also identifies several challenges, including declining youth participation in traditional practices, the growing influence of external cultures, and the lack of systematic cultural documentation to support long-term preservation. Despite these challenges, cultural sustainability continues to be supported by the role of traditional leaders, informal cultural education within families, and limited government initiatives in cultural preservation. This study contributes by identifying community-based cultural preservation practices and the main factors influencing the sustainability of Dayak Ngaju culture, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening intergenerational cultural transmission to preserve local cultural identity in the long term.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Islamic educational leadership in the context of ethnic diversity in Indonesia, with a focus on the integration of local wisdom values and Islamic leadership principles. The analytical focus of this study covers two aspects: (1) identifying the alignment of leadership values in the local cultures of the Nusantara with the principles of Islamic leadership, and (2) formulating an integrative, contextual, and relevant model of Islamic educational leadership within Indonesia’s multicultural society. Previous studies indicate that research on Islamic educational leadership remains dominated by normative approaches and has not yet systematically integrated local cultural dimensions into a comprehensive conceptual model, resulting in a gap in the development of leadership models grounded in local wisdom. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research. Data were obtained through the documentation of primary and secondary literature and analyzed using content analysis with a thematic approach to identify patterns, value relationships, and conceptual syntheses across sources. The research results indicate that local wisdom values such as consensus-based deliberation (musyawarah mufakat), mutual cooperation (gotong royong), social solidarity, and respect for customs align substantively with the Islamic principles of shura, amanah, justice, and ukhuwah. Based on this synthesis, an integrative Islamic educational leadership model rooted in the local wisdom of the Nusantara was developed, emphasizing contextual, inclusive, participatory, democratic, and adaptive leadership. This model strengthens social bonds, enhances the effectiveness of educational institution management, and reinforces the harmony between cultural identity and Islamic identity. This study recommends the further development of this model as a framework for strengthening the quality of leadership in Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia. Furthermore, the application of local wisdom in Islamic educational leadership can strengthen social relationships, improve the effectiveness of educational institution management, and reinforce cultural and Islamic identities in a harmonious manner. This study recommends the development of a model of Islamic educational leadership based on local wisdom to strengthen the quality of Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines Islamic religious education within Muslim families in the digital era, focusing on adaptive Islamic parenting in shaping children’s spiritual character. Grounded in the concepts of fitrah, adab, and uswatun hasanah, the study explores how family education responds to digital media exposure and changing parent–child interaction patterns.A qualitative case study approach was employed with two Muslim families as embedded case units. The selection of two families is justified by the depth-oriented nature of case study research, which prioritizes intensive, contextual understanding rather than statistical generalization. The two families were purposively selected based on specific criteria: (1) Muslim nuclear families with children aged 7–15 years, (2) regular exposure to digital devices in daily life, (3) willingness of both parents to participate in interviews and observation, and (4) contrasting parenting styles in religious education practices. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model involving data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that parenting combining democratic discipline, religious habituation, and consistent role modeling strengthens children’s internalization of Islamic values. In contrast, permissive parenting with weak religious exemplification results in inconsistent religious behavior. Theoretically, the study extends fitrah by showing that children’s innate spirituality requires structured parental mediation in the digital environment. Adab is expanded to include digital ethics in media use, while uswatun hasanah is reconceptualized as continuous and visible moral modeling in both offline and online contexts. The study thus contributes a contextual model of Islamic parenting that operationalizes these concepts in the digital age.

Abstract

The limited language skills of early childhood learners and the lack of diverse instructional media highlight the need for technologically enhanced innovations with meaningful pedagogical value. This study aimed to develop an interactive digital comic based on Islamic values to enhance the language skills of children aged 5–6 years through a digital storytelling and multimodal literacy approach. The study employed the Four-D (4-D) development model, consisting of the Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. The participants included 14 Group B kindergarten children and five teachers at TK Muttiama Kasih, Majene Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through structured observations, expert validation sheets, teacher response questionnaires, and language skills assessments. The expert validation results yielded a mean score of 3.65, indicating that the media was highly valid. The practicality test achieved a score of 98.07%, categorized as highly practical. The effectiveness test demonstrated substantial improvements across all language skill indicators, with the average achievement increasing from 22.2% to 87.5%, while the highest achievement reached 100% in the phonemic literacy indicator. Teacher responses reached 100%, indicating that the media was highly effective. The developed media integrates learner-centered interactive visual storytelling with the internalization of the Islamic value of taʿāwun (mutual assistance) through narrative-based modeling, simultaneously fostering children's receptive, expressive, and emergent literacy skills while promoting Islamic character development. Therefore, the interactive digital comic is a feasible and innovative instructional medium that can serve as an effective instrument of tarbiyah in early childhood education.

Abstract

Explores the visionary leadership practices of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Kiais in transforming the pedagogy and student (santri) character across four pesantren in Lumajang Regency. The central focus is how pesantren leadership responds to the disruption of modernization without losing the essence of Islamic education rooted in Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah (Aswaja) values. Employing a qualitative case study design with an educational ethnography approach, data were collected through participatory observation of daily rituals and learning cultures, in-depth interviews with key figures, and institutional document analysis. The findings indicate that the Kiais' visionary leadership transcends managerial efficiency; it manifests as an educative force that transforms spiritual awareness, moral discipline, and adaptive learning culture (deep learning) through the internalization of the ta’dib tradition. The resulting enhancement in institutional performance is fundamentally a secondary impact of the Kiais' success in positioning themselves as murabbi (spiritual educators) who nurture a moderate and inclusive worldview among the santri. The novelty of this research lies in the construction of a transformative Islamic educational leadership model, proving that the integration of Aswaja's pedagogical philosophy with digital-vocational innovation is the core foundation for pesantren resilience. This study concludes that the Kiais' visionary leadership is crucial in preserving the authenticity of the pesantren while simultaneously shaping a Muslim generation adaptive to global dynamics.

Abstract

The limited availability of supplementary learning resources and the underutilization of interactive digital media have constrained the effectiveness of IPAS learning on Indonesian cultural diversity among fourth-grade Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students. Previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of flipbooks and gamification in enhancing student engagement; however, research integrating both approaches into a supplementary learning resource specifically designed for cultural diversity content in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah remains limited. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a gamification-based flipbook as a supplementary learning resource for IPAS and to examine students’ responses toward its implementation. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Thiagarajan 4D model, consisting of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. Data were collected through expert validation instruments, teacher assessments, and student response questionnaires, and were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques. The findings revealed that the developed flipbook was highly feasible, obtaining validation scores of 92% from media experts, 77.6% from content experts, and 89% from teachers. Furthermore, student responses reached 82.1%, categorized as “Very Good,” indicating high levels of engagement, usability, and acceptance. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of gamification elements within a flipbook-based supplementary resource specifically designed for Indonesian cultural diversity learning in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. The study contributes to the development of interactive learning media that not only support conceptual understanding of cultural diversity but also promote student engagement and multicultural awareness in elementary Islamic education contexts.

Abstract

Contemporary developments in the philosophy of Islamic education reveal an ongoing debate between the paradigm of the Islamization of Knowledge, which emphasizes the formation of Islamic identity, and the need to transform Islamic values into the plural public sphere. Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas's paradigm of the Islamization of Knowledge has successfully established the metaphysical and epistemological foundations of Islamic education through the concept of ta'dib. However, it still faces challenges in explaining how revelatory values can be translated into diverse fields of knowledge and universally applicable social realities. In contrast, Kuntowijoyo's paradigm of objectification provides a mechanism for transforming Islamic values into inclusive scientific and social categories. This study aims to reconstruct the philosophy of Islamic education through a critical dialogue between Al-Attas's concept of ta'dib and Kuntowijoyo's paradigm of objectification. Employing a qualitative library research design with a comparative-critical philosophical approach, the study analyzes the primary works of both scholars alongside relevant contemporary academic literature through qualitative content analysis and conceptual synthesis. The findings demonstrate that the integration of these two paradigms produces a model termed Prophetic-Adabic Islamic Education, which integrates the cultivation of adab, the objectification of Qur'anic values, and the development of knowledge. The proposed model provides a philosophical foundation for strengthening character education and developing an integrated curriculum that bridges Islamic and modern sciences, enabling Islamic education to produce graduates who possess moral integrity, intellectual excellence, and the capacity to advance knowledge for the promotion of public benefit (maṣlaḥah).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the certification policy for Islamic Religious Education Teachers (PAI), policies from schools in supporting the implementation of PAI teacher certification, its implications for the learning process, and the obstacles faced by PAI teachers in participating in the implementation of certification. Certification is a policy from the government to improve the professionalism of educators. However, the effectiveness of its implementation is not only determined by national regulatory policies, but also how schools as policy implementers support the implementation. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive method, with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The informants from this study consist of PAI teachers who have participated in certification through the PLPG and PPG routes. The results of the study showed that certification had a positive impact on improving the pedagogical, professional, social, and personality competencies of PAI teachers. Professional allowances also increase teachers' motivation and welfare so as to support media development, learning creativity, and the use of technology in the teaching and learning process. The implementation of certification is effective because of the school's support through the provision of facilities, supervision of the principal, and the fulfillment of teaching hours. However, there are several obstacles, such as the heterogeneity of student character and the uneven post-certification coaching policy. This research confirms that the success of teacher certification is not only determined by national policies, but also by internal school policies that strengthen its implementation. These findings are expected to be a reference for schools, governments, and policy makers in strengthening the implementation of teacher certification in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a strategic role in shaping the character of a tolerant and inclusive younger generation within society. Particularly in the subject of Islamic Cultural History (SKI) at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level, instilling noble values from an early age becomes the foundation of national diversity. The Constitution of Medina, as the first constitution in Islam, offers a model of harmonious interfaith relations based on justice and tolerance. However, the challenges of globalization and radicalism demand that historical values be revitalized in the learning process. The internalization of religious moderation through SKI is not merely a transfer of knowledge, but also an effort to build a moderate character. This study aims to analytically examine the values of religious moderation contained in the Constitution of Medina and their relevance in the implementation of SKI learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, analyzing various written references related to the research topic. The data sources include books, scientific journals, and findings from previous studies. The results show that the Constitution of Medina contains values of religious moderation such as tolerance, justice, freedom of religion, deliberation, and peace as reflected in its various articles. These values are relevant to be integrated into SKI learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah as an effort to shape students’ moderate character, foster respect for diversity, and enable them to live harmoniously in a pluralistic society.
