Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ Indonesian language literacy skills through the integration of digital learning media at SD Negeri 02 Tugu Harum. The research used a classroom action research (CAR) design involving 49 students and was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The digital learning media used included interactive applications, educational videos, and online learning platforms to support reading, writing, and speaking activities. Data were collected through literacy tests administered before the action and at the end of each cycle, as well as learning motivation questionnaires. The data were analyzed descriptively by comparing students’ literacy scores across the initial condition, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The results showed a consistent improvement in students’ Indonesian language literacy skills, with average increases of 19.5% in reading, 21.1% in writing, and 20.3% in speaking skills. Students’ learning motivation also improved, as indicated by higher participation and confidence during learning activities. These findings indicate that the integration of digital learning media contributes positively to the improvement of Indonesian language literacy skills and learning motivation among elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the learning process of vocal articulation techniques implemented at the Hardman Music Course in Bandar Lampung and to identify the teaching methods used by instructors in vocal instruction. Vocal learning in this non-formal music institution focuses on improving students’ pronunciation clarity, vocal strength, and expressive performance. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving vocal teachers and students. The findings indicate that articulation instruction is conducted through three main stages: vowel articulation, consonant articulation, and diphthong articulation. In practice, instructors apply a combination of demonstration, direct practice, drills, and continuous feedback to support students’ mastery of articulation techniques. The results show that students demonstrate noticeable improvements in pronunciation accuracy, vocal control, and articulation consistency after undergoing structured and practice-oriented training. This study concludes that the integration of systematic articulation stages with experiential learning methods effectively enhances students’ vocal performance in non-formal music education settings.

Abstract

Mastery of the Indonesian language is recognized as a crucial determinant of students’ reading comprehension abilities. Initial observations at SDN 3 Langon showed that comprehension levels remained below expectations, primarily due to the limited use of varied instructional strategies and the continued dependence on conventional, teacher-centered methods. A cooperative, integrated reading approach serves as an alternative that emphasizes student participation and collaborative engagement, making it a potentially effective means of improving comprehension outcomes. This study examines two core questions: (1) whether a measurable difference in reading comprehension exists before and after the implementation of the cooperative reading approach, and (2) the extent to which the approach influences the reading comprehension achievement of fifth-grade students. A quantitative pre-experimental design with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest format was applied to 25 students selected through saturation sampling. Reading comprehension performance was evaluated using an analytical rubric, and the data were processed through T-tests and regression analyses in IBM SPSS Statistics. A statistically significant improvement was identified (p < 0.001), with mean scores increasing from 50.40 on the pretest to 78.40 on the posttest. Regression findings indicated that the implemented cooperative reading strategy contributed 21.4 percent to the variance in students’ enhanced reading comprehension, as reflected in an R value of 0.214.

Abstract

Local cultural education plays a strategic role in shaping students’ character and moral values, particularly in societies with strong cultural traditions such as the Malay community of Riau. This study aims to analyze the role of Riau Malay cultural education in enhancing students’ moral development through the integration of cultural values into the curriculum, extracurricular activities, school environment, and the roles of teachers and the community. This research employs a qualitative approach using literature review and descriptive analysis. The findings indicate that Riau Malay cultural education contributes significantly to students’ moral development through the internalization of traditional values, habituation of polite behavior, respect for parents and teachers, and the strengthening of cultural identity. The discussion highlights that teachers, families, and the surrounding environment are key determinants of successful cultural education implementation. The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive framework that positions local cultural values not only as moral guidance but also as a strategic foundation for character education policy. The findings provide practical implications for policymakers and educators in developing culturally responsive education models that support moral education while preserving local wisdom in the era of globalization.

Abstract

Early literacy instruction in Indonesia remains dominated by conventional approaches emphasizing isolated technical skills, with minimal attention to holistic narrative competence development. This study aimed to (1) develop an Interactive Storytelling Framework grounded in emergent literacy theory, narrative theory, and sociocultural learning principles, and (2) examine its effectiveness in enhancing literacy and narrative abilities of children aged 6-7 years. A Design-Based Research approach with sequential explanatory mixed methods was employed over eight months. Participants included 267 first-grade students from three public elementary schools in Medan Denai District, North Sumatra, assigned to experimental (n=133) and control (n=134) groups using a quasi-experimental design. Results revealed statistically significant between-group differences favoring the experimental group. For literacy skills, ANCOVA showed F (1,264) =112.09, p<0.001, ηp²=0.298, Cohen's d=1.07. The experimental group achieved mean gains of 20.87 points versus 11.45 points in controls (82% greater improvement). For narrative abilities, F (1,264) =286.14, p<0.001, ηp²=0.520, Cohen's d=1.48, with experimental gains of 6.92 versus 2.84 points (144% greater improvement). Student engagement was significantly higher in the experimental group (M=14.03 vs. 11.39, d=1.51) and correlated strongly with literacy gains (r=0.628) and narrative gains (r=0.712). Thematic analysis identified five mechanisms: meaningful contextual learning, active participation, narrative metacognition development, adaptive differentiation, and real-life transfer.

Abstract

This study addresses the limited use of innovative learning media in Civic Education (PKn) which affects students’ activeness and literacy skills in elementary schools. The research aims to develop educational comic media in PKn learning and to examine its feasibility and students’ responses in improving literacy skills. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4-D model, consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The subjects of the study were fourth-grade students of SDNU Metro. Data were collected through interviews with teachers and the school principal, material expert and media expert validation questionnaires, and student response questionnaires. The findings indicate that the developed educational comic media is feasible to use based on material and media expert evaluations. Students' responses show a very positive category, particularly in increasing learning interest, reading motivation, and understanding of Pancasila values. Therefore, educational comic media can serve as an effective alternative learning medium to support literacy improvement in Civic Education learning at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop an Android-based interactive learning media integrated with ethnosocial values to enhance numeracy literacy among fifth-grade Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students. The study employed a Research and Development approach using the Borg and Gall model, consisting of needs analysis, design, development, and product testing stages. The subjects included fifth-grade students of MIN 1 Sungai Tarab, classroom teachers, and expert validators. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and numeracy literacy tests. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques to assess the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed media. The results showed that the media achieved a validity score of 83%, indicating a highly valid category. Practicality analysis revealed student response scores of 78.8% and teacher response scores of 66%, both categorized as practical. Effectiveness testing demonstrated that students’ numeracy literacy achievement reached a classical mastery level of 85.6%. These findings indicate that the developed Android-based interactive learning media meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness for use in numeracy learning at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level.
