Abstract

Ultisols have problems with soil organic matter and low nutrients, that making soil fertility low. Population and earthworm biomass is one indicator of the fertility level of a soil. Efforts to increase soil fertility can be done by giving biochar and chicken manure. This study aims to study the effect of biochar and chicken manure application on earthworm population and biomass and study the correlation between earthworm population and biomass with soil properties. This research uses a non-factorial Group Randomized Design (RAK) with 4 groups and 4 treatments, namely, B0 = control, B1 = biochar 5 tons ha-1, B2 = chicken manure 5 tons ha-1, and B3 = biochar 5 tons ha-1 + chicken manure 5 tons ha-1. The data was analyzed for variance, followed by a 5% BNT test, as well as a correlation test between earthworm population and biomass with supporting variables. The results showed that the application of biochar and chicken manure had no effect on earthworm population and biomass at the entire time of observation. There is a negative correlation between soil water content with earthworm populations and soil temperature with earthworm biomass. There is a positive correlation between soil pH with earthworm populations and biomass, but there is no correlation between earthworm populations and biomass with corn crop production components. Two families of earthworms found in the research area are Megascolecidae and Glossoscolecidae. Key words: Glossoscolecidae, Megascolecidae, soil ameliorant, Ultisol

Abstract

Pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) is one of the important and popular vegetable crops in Indonesia. City development and massive urbanization have resulted in the shrinking of agricultural land in urban areas. Home gardens have great potential if managed optimally and planned. Therefore, the concept of urban farming with the vertical farming method can be a solution. This study aimed to determine the optimal composition of planting media and liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) concentration for the growth and production of pakcoy plants. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor was the composition of the planting medium, which consisted of three levels: soil, compost, and goat manure with a ratio of 1:1:1, 1:1:2, and 1:2:1. The second factor was the concentration of LOF and urea, which consisted of four levels: 1 gram urea, 2 ml/liter water, 4 ml/liter water, and 6 ml/liter water. The results of the study showed that the combination of planting medium composition and LOF concentration had an effect on all observation parameters. The combination of planting medium composition 1:1:2 and LOF concentration of 4 ml/liter water produced the best results for all observation parameters, namely plant height, number of leaves, total fresh weight, fresh head weight, fresh root weight, and plant dry weight. Key words : Pakcoy mustard, verticulture, media composition, concentration, LOF

Abstract

Intercropping soybeans with cassava can become one solution to increase the production of soybean in Indonesia. This research aimed to determine the most optimal population combination of soybean-cassava intercropping for the growth and yield of soybean seeds, cassava tuber yield, and land use efficiency (LUE)..  The research was carried out on the farm land of the Main Seed Center in Sekincau District, West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, Indonesia at -5°02’27” South and 104°18’16” East at elevation of 1173.1 meter from sea level and at the Seed and Plant Breeding Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture University of Lampung during June 2022 - February 2023. The four treatments of population combination of soybean-cassava intercropping were applied in a completely randomized block design (CRBD) and replicated five times in five blocks. The four population combination treatments of soybean-cassava intercropping were a) 100% soybean and 0% cassava (monoculture) (p₁), b) 67% soybean and 97% cassava (p₂), c) 67% soybean and 89% cassava (p₃), and d) 50% soybeans and 97% cassava (p₄). The growth and the seed yield per soybean stem of monoculture did not differ to those of the soybean-cassava intercropping, but the soybean seed yield per plot area of the intercropping was lower than those of monoculture. Its mainly due to the soybean population of the intercropping was lower compared to monoculture. All population combinations in soybean-cassava intercropping were effective in supporting the growth and yield of soybean seeds, but the population combination of 50% soybean and 97% cassava (p₄) was also effective in supporting cassava tuber yield, and had the highest land use efficiency among other population combinations. Key words:  flowering age, plant height, seed weight, tuber weight of cassava

Abstract

Coffee is a leading commodity in Indonesia because it can increase people's income and foreign exchange. Coffee production can be affected by flowering. Flowering can be done by giving flower inducer, a flower inducer solution containing nutrients and Sitokinin. This study aims to investigate the influence of concentration and timing of flower inducer solution application on the flowering of robusta coffee plants. The research was conducted in Petaling Banjar Village, Bangka Regency, from January to May 2023, using a split-plot experimental design with a randomized block design, repeated four times. The main plots were the weekly and bi-weekly time intervals, and the subplots were the concentrations of Flower Inducer, namely 0 ml/liter, 10 ml/liter, 20 ml/liter, and 30 ml/liter. The results showed that the concentration of flower inducing solution significantly increased the number of silver primordia, the number of perfasciculus primordia, and the period of primordia emergence. A concentration of 20 ml/liter is the best concentration that induces coffee primordia and flowers. Keywords : Coffee, flowering, concentration, sitokinin

Abstract

Sandy soil is part of the soil fraction with low nutrient content, organic matter, and cation exchange capacity. This is due to the leaching process so that nutrients are easily lost. The research aimed to improve the chemical characteristics of sandy soil and rice crop production due to the application of humic acid and silica. This research used of Completely Randomized Design method using soil amendment materials, namely humic acid (A) at the of 60 kg/ha and silica (S) at the of 5 tons/ha consisting of 6 combinations of comparisons repeated 4 times. Variables of analysis parameters include pH, cation exchange capacity, organic matter, N-NH4+, N-NO3- and rice crop production. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis  of variance (ANOVA). If the results showed a significant effect, it was continued with the Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at the 5% level. The results showed that the application of soil amendment in the from humic acid and silica with various treatments on sandy soil was only able to improve CEC by 3,18% and Organic-C by 0,08%. In contrast soil pH and N-available didn`t give significant results in improving soil chemical properties and rice crop production. It`s recommended to conduct further research on the dose used in soil amendments so that it can effect nitrogen parameters and rice crop production in sandy soil.  Keywords: humic acid, silica, sandy soil
