Abstract

Self-regulation in learning refers to an individual's ability to direct, monitor, and regulate their behavior, motivation, and emotions to achieve academic goals. However, not all students possess strong self-regulation skills in learning, as observed in superior classes. Students in regular classes tend to procrastinate more frequently, pay less attention to teachers, and struggle with learning. This study aims to investigate the differences in self-regulation in learning between students in regular and superior classes. The study employs a quantitative approach with a comparative design. The research participants comprise 68 sixth-grade students at Phatnawitya School, Thailand, with a sample of 45 students selected through cluster sampling. The research instrument consists of a self-regulation learning scale with 12 validated statements assessed using SPSS Statistics 26. This scale includes three aspects: metacognition, motivation, and behavior. Data analysis using an independent t-test revealed a significance value of 0.177 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant differences in self-regulation between students in superior and regular classes.

Abstract

Bullying is aggressive behavior involving a power imbalance between the victim and the perpetrator. A negatively perceived school climate can increase maladaptive behaviors, including bullying. Social support, encompassing a sense of being valued, loved, and cared for also play a critical role in reducing bullying. This quantitative study aims to examine the influence of school climate and social support on bullying tendencies among vocational high school students. Using a cross-sectional online survey, 343 students participated as respondents. Multiple regression analysis revealed an F-value of 13.757 with a significance level of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant influence of school climate and social support on bullying tendencies. The findings suggest that despite a generally high level of social support (mean = 34.57, SD = 2.99) and school climate (mean = 37.47, SD = 3.47), some students still experience moderate levels in these variables. Additionally, a notable number of students continue to report high bullying tendencies, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to improve school environments and strengthen social support systems.

Abstract

Language is a fundamental communication tool that enables interaction across various contexts. As a global lingua franca, English can be introduced to children at an early age, including those with special needs. This study explores the effectiveness of a differentiated learning approach in enhancing English vocabulary acquisition among children with special needs. Employing an action research design, the study was conducted in three cycles, each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observations and vocabulary tests administered over the three cycles. In the first cycle, visual media such as flashcards were used to introduce vocabulary. The second cycle incorporated auditory learning through songs, while the third cycle integrated audiovisual media in the form of animations. Five early childhood education (ECE) students with special needs participated in the study. Findings revealed that differentiated instruction significantly improved vocabulary acquisition. The students’ average vocabulary test scores increased from 45 in the first cycle to 35 in the second, before reaching 75 in the third cycle. These results highlight the efficacy of differentiated learning strategies in addressing the diverse needs of children with special needs, providing an inclusive and adaptive approach to vocabulary instruction. The study underscores the importance of employing multimodal instructional techniques to enhance language acquisition and suggests that differentiated methods can serve as a valuable pedagogical tool for educators working with special needs learners. Future research may explore long-term retention and the impact of differentiated learning on other language skills.

Abstract

Post-breakup anxiety among adolescents, if not properly addressed, can lead to significant emotional disruption and hinder psychological development. Breakups often trigger a range of negative emotional responses, including sadness, anxiety, and a decline in self-esteem. For adolescents, particularly students, these emotional disturbances may result in diminished concentration, reduced academic performance, and impaired personal growth. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of systematic desensitization techniques in alleviating post-breakup anxiety among high school students. Utilizing a pre-experimental research design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach, the study involved a population of 128 students from four classes at Intensif Taruna Pembangunan Surabaya Senior High School. From this population, six students who met specific criteria were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a 36-item breakup anxiety scale based on a 4-point Likert format, administered via Google Forms. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to compare pre- and post-intervention scores. The results indicated a statistically significant reduction in post-breakup anxiety following the intervention, with an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.027 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that systematic desensitization is an effective therapeutic technique for managing emotional distress related to romantic relationship dissolution in adolescents. The study highlights the importance of incorporating behavioral interventions into school-based counseling services. Future research is recommended to include a broader and more diverse population, such as students from different educational levels and cultural contexts, or to explore the combined efficacy of systematic desensitization with other counseling approaches.

Abstract

Self-awareness plays a crucial role in personality development and adolescent adaptation. However, many adolescents still struggle to recognize and manage themselves effectively, which impacts various psychological dimensions. This study aims to describe the self-awareness profile of students at MTs Negeri 2 Bandung. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, the study involved a population of 200 students, with 127 selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed descriptively to determine frequency distributions and percentages across self-awareness categories. The findings show that 42.5% of students possess moderate self-awareness, 25% fall into the low category, and 6% belong to the very low category. The action and conversation dimensions dominate the moderate category, with 43.3% and 40.9%, respectively. To enhance students’ self-awareness, several guidance and counseling interventions are recommended, including self-monitoring, cognitive restructuring, role-playing, mindfulness practices, and psychoeducation, all of which can contribute to students’ personal development.

Abstract

The widespread issue of drug abuse poses significant challenges to individuals' quality of life, particularly among those undergoing rehabilitation. This study investigates the effect of Islamic Counseling Guidance on the quality of life of drug addicts at the Qur’anic Healing Indonesia Rehabilitation Center. The study involved 90 male participants aged 20–35 years who had been in rehabilitation for more than three months. Total sampling was employed to include individuals classified as severe, moderate, and mild addicts. Data were collected using two reliable instruments: a Quality-of-Life Scale and an Islamic Counseling Scale (Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.90). The data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The findings indicated no significant influence of Islamic Counseling Guidance on quality of life (p = 0.934), suggesting that the Islamic counseling approach implemented in this setting was not effective in enhancing the patients’ quality of life. These results highlight the need to reevaluate and possibly integrate more holistic or tailored approaches in counseling interventions for drug rehabilitation.

Abstract

Early childhood education plays a crucial role in stimulating creativity as a foundation for developing high-quality human resources. Children’s creativity can be fostered from an early age through meaningful and contextual learning experiences, one of which involves the use of natural materials closely connected to children’s everyday environments. This study aimed to examine improvements in creativity among children aged 5–6 years through the use of natural-material-based learning media in early childhood education settings. This study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, implemented in two cycles. The participants consisted of 25 children from Group B at PAUD Kasih Ibu, Kempas District. Data were collected through structured observation and field notes, while data analysis used percentage techniques to identify changes in children’s creativity across action cycles. The findings indicate that the use of natural materials effectively and gradually enhances children’s creativity. Improvements were observed in children’s abilities to explore, imagine, try new ideas, and express ideas independently. These results suggest that natural materials function as effective contextual learning media that support creativity development in early childhood. Therefore, this study provides practical implications for early childhood educators in designing creative, contextual, and sustainable learning experiences.

Abstract

Students’ social interaction is a fundamental aspect of social and academic development; however, many students experience difficulties in establishing effective interpersonal relationships in the school setting. Group counseling has been widely implemented to address this issue; however, empirical findings remain fragmented and have not been systematically synthesized. This study aims to review and synthesize empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of group counseling in improving students’ social interaction. The study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design based on the PRISMA framework. Literature searches were conducted using Google Scholar with the keywords “group counseling” and “student social interaction”, focusing on articles published between 2014 and 2024. Following a rigorous screening process, five eligible studies were selected for analysis. The findings indicate that group counseling consistently improves students’ social interaction through various approaches, including role playing, modeling, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). Group dynamics play a central role in facilitating behavioral and cognitive change. In conclusion, group counseling is an effective and adaptable intervention for enhancing students’ social interaction, providing important implications for school counselors in designing evidence-based counseling programs.

Abstract

Adopting a child with autism presents unique psychological, emotional, and social challenges that differ significantly from those experienced by biological parents. In Indonesia, adoption involving children with autism remains relatively uncommon, and empirical studies examining the lived experiences of adoptive parents are still limited. Most existing research has focused on parental stress, coping strategies, and caregiving burdens, with little attention given to how adoptive parents construct and experience meaning in life through their parenting roles. This study aimed to explore the meaning of life among adoptive parents of children with autism by examining their subjective experiences and meaning-making processes. This research employed a qualitative case-study design. Participants consisted of a married couple who adopted a child diagnosed with autism through kinship-based adoption. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations, and triangulation with a significant other. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns related to meaning construction, emotional experiences, and parental roles. The findings indicate that adoptive parents construct meaning in life through acceptance, commitment, emotional resilience, and spiritual reflection in responding to parenting challenges. Parenting a child with autism becomes a source of personal growth and life purpose, despite ongoing emotional and practical demands. This study contributes to meaning-in-life literature by highlighting the distinctive experiences of adoptive parents and offers practical implications for psychological support and family-based interventions.
