Abstract

Motivation, from time to time, including the postmodern era, becomes one of the success factors in learning. However, today, student motivation is low, which has a major impact on students learning outcomes. Accordingly, teachers need to use various strategies to motivate students in learning in order to get maximum learning results. This study aims to describe the right strategy to overcome the boredom of students of digital native generation so that literacy index and learning outcomes increase, especially in Islamic Education for students at the kindergarten level. This study used a qualitative method with the type of phenomenology, in which researchers tried to understand understand the behavior, motivation, perception, and action of the research subjects. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study show that active learning strategies are very relevant to improve student learning outcomes and can encourage student learning motivation. The learning process is carried out through games, quiz, verse connection games, index card matches, discussions, and questions-answers.

Abstract

Honesty is a character that everyone should have. However, the character of honesty is deteriorating every day. Therefore, cultivating honesty values should start from an early age so that it becomes a habit and character. This study aims to describe the cultivation of honesty value through the honesty canteen at the Islamic Integrated Kindergarten of Cahaya Sunnah, Sei. Bangkar, Seberida Subdistrict, Indragiri Hulu Regency. This research uses a descriptive-qualitative approach. The data were collected using observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques. The informants in this study consisted of the principal, 3 teachers, and 35 students. The collected data were analyzed in three stages, namely data reduction, data display, and then verification and conclusion. The results of this study show that the cultivation of honesty values through the honesty canteen is carried out in several stages, namely planning, implementation, organization, monitoring, and evaluation. In this way, children are accustomed to being honest, trained to maintain cleanliness, to be responsible, to be disciplined, to obey the rules, to be independent, and to be patient.

Abstract

Problem-solving ability in children is one of the important things that must be developed by teachers and parents so that children are accustomed to facing their problems and finding solutions to problems appropriately. However, the problem-solving ability of  Kindergarten of ‘Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal (ABA) 01 Surabaya students is still low. This study aims to see the effect of the use of B&C Book media on problem-solving ability in Group A students at Kindergarten of ABA 01 Surabaya. This research is a pre-experimental research with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The subjects in the study were students in groups A1 and A2 with a total of 36 students, and the sample was taken using a simple random sampling technique with a total of 18 students. Data were collected using test and observation techniques that focused on the aspects of classifying, connecting, and comparing. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon match pair test. The results showed the value of Tcount = 0 and Ttable = 40 or Tcount ≤ Ttable. Thus, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This means that there is a positive effect of using B&C Book on problem-solving ability in group A students at Kindergarten of ABA 01 Surabaya. It is proven by the students’ ability in classifying, connecting, and comparing has increased at the post-test.

Abstract

Parents’ involvement in kids’ education is significant for their development process and learning quality. Discontinuity between schools and parents in kid’s education will hinder their learning process. This study aims to determine the partnership built by Kusuma 1 Kindergarten, Sleman, Yogyakarta with parents in improving participatory learning. This research is qualitative. Data were collected using documentation and interviews with the school principal, teachers, and a representative of parents. The data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model developed by Miles and Huberman which includes data collection, data processing, data reduction, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the school and parents made programmed activities, such as introducing the school’s vision, mission, and goals, parenting activities, learning activities outside the classroom with parents, P5 activities, and planning and evaluating the school budget for the learning process.

Abstract

Self-confidence is one of the emotional intelligence that needs to be developed in early childhood. This study aims to improve early childhood self-confidence through educational snakes and ladders games at SPS Lemuru 26 Mojosari, Jember. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a population of 10 students aged 4-5 years. Data were collected through observation, field notes, and documentation, then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. This research involved one cycle consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages, with the target of increasing self-confidence at least 76% of children reaching the “very good” category. The results showed that children's belief in their own abilities and positive attitudes were at 85% (very good), a sense of optimism obtained 75% (good), judging objectively obtained 87.5% (very good), responsibility for the actions taken was at 85% (very good), and the ability to think critically obtained 82.5% and was classified in the category (very good). Thus, the educational snakes and ladders game proved effective in increasing the self-confidence of early childhood.

Abstract

Early childhood is an important phase for developing children's intelligence, including number recognition skills, which are the basis for further math learning. This study aims to improve the ability to recognize numbers 1-10 in children aged 4-5 years using wit ongko media in group A PAUD Darunnajah Tamansari. This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) with Kurt Lewin model. The subjects in this study were 15 children in group A. Data were collected using observation techniques and field notes, which refer to the ability to (a) count numbers 1-10, (b) show the order of objects 1-10, and (c) connect number symbols with objects. Data were analyzed using the percentage formula which is quantitative and qualitative. The results showed that the average ability of children in recognizing numbers in the pre-cycle for each indicator was (a) 63.25% (good), (b) 58.25% (sufficient), (c) 51.75% (poor); cycle I was (a) 66.67% (good), 58.33% (sufficient), 55% (sufficient); and cycle II was (a) 90% (very good), 88.25% (very good), 80% (very good). Thus, the use of wit ongko media is effective in improving the ability to recognize numbers in group A children at PAUD Darunnajah Tamansari.

Abstract

A smartphone is a communication tool that has various features. Smartphone users do not only come from workers but children and toddlers. The use of smartphones, especially in early childhood, has multiple negative impacts – besides its positive impacts - such as decreased concentration while learning, causing health problems, slowing cognitive development, and affecting the formation of social behavior. In line with that, this study aims to determine the relationship between smartphone use and the formation of social behavior in early childhood. This study used a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population used in this study was 108 parents, while the sample amounted to 85 parents which is taken using the purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires about smartphone use and children’s social behavior. The data were then analyzed using the Spearmen rank correlation test with a significance of p < 0.05. The results of this study indicate that the use of smartphones is related to the formation of social behavior in early childhood, with a correlation strength value of 0.798 (correlation strength = strong).

Abstract

Early childhood education (PAUD), including Kindergarten (TK), plays an important role in shaping children’s character. In North Sumatra, the many choices of kindergartens make parents’ decisions in choosing influenced by various factors, especially income level. This study aims to explore the level of influence of income on public perception in choosing kindergartens in North Sumatra. This study uses a qualitative approach with a population in 5 sub-districts in North Sumatra. The sample consists of parents who have children aged 4-6 years. Data collection techniques include observation and in-depth interviews with instruments in the form of interview guidelines. Data analysis was carried out using triangulation techniques to ensure the validity of the results. The results of the study indicate that income level plays an important role in shaping parents’ preferences in choosing kindergartens. Parents with higher incomes tend to choose kindergartens with superior facilities and criteria, while those with lower incomes consider location and cost more. Therefore, this study provides insight into the importance of economic factors in educational decisions.

Abstract

Children’s reading ability is now the main basis for taking the next level of education. The level of reading ability becomes a priority scale for early childhood education, and it needs to be developed comprehensively. One effort to encourage these capabilities is to use representative media, such as letter cards.  This research aims to improve the student’s ability to recognize letters using letter cards. This is classroom action research. The research has taken place in group A aged 4-5 years Kartini II Kindergarten PGRI Rambipiju. There were 16 students involved in this research. This used tests and observation sheets with 1-to-4-star assessment criteria such as students being able to show letters, and students being able to order letters. The students should therefore get a minimum of three stars in aspects observed for individual completeness; and 75% of the total number of students for classical completeness. The data were then analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The results show that 56% of the total number of students or 9 students completed cycle I and 87% or 14 students completed cycle II. Accordingly, the letter cards can improve the student’s ability to recognize the alphabet.

Abstract

The mental health of university students is a crucial aspect that contributes to their academic success and psychological well-being. However, many students experience academic, social, and emotional pressures that may trigger mental health disorders such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Unfortunately, limited access to counseling services and the negative stigma surrounding mental health discourage many students from seeking help. Therefore, innovative solutions are needed to support student mental health in a more accessible and effective manner. This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a mental health counseling e-book for university students. The research employs the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) development model, involving 417 students from the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. Data collection was conducted using a Likert-scale questionnaire to measure students' mental health before and after the e-book intervention. The findings indicate that the developed e-book meets the content and design feasibility standards, with percentages of 68.73% and 88.52%, respectively, and was deemed highly suitable by experts. The Wilcoxon statistical test revealed a significant improvement in students' mental health levels following the use of the e-book, with an Asymp. Sig value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Thus, the e-book has proven to be an effective tool in helping students manage their mental health. This study recommends the utilization of e-books as a supplementary counseling medium in higher education institutions to enhance students' psychological well-being.
