Abstract

This final project makes a device that produces electrical energy by utilizing waste heat from injection machines. The waste heat of the injection machine is converted into electrical energy using a thermoelectric. This device consists of an aluminum heatsink, aluminum plate, thermoelectric, MDF wood planks, engine gasket, and thermal paste. The heat generated by the injection machine is received by the hot side heatsink, then 4 units of the thermoelectric and the cold side heatsink. Thermoelectrics are arranged in series. The output from the thermoelectric is connected to a multimeter to test the amount of voltage and current generated. The number of thermoelectric-based equipment made of 2 (two) pieces and assembled in series. The test was carried out using an open circuit and a closed circuit with a load using a 1 watt LED lamp (Ω 55 Ω). The open circuit test results show that the largest voltage is generated at 10.80 volts with a hot side temperature of 108C and a cold side temperature of 64˚C. The results of the closed circuit test show that the greatest voltage produced is 2.64 volts with a hot side temperature of 108 C and a cold side temperature of 62 C. When thermoelectric based equipment is given a load, the voltage decreases because the voltage is divided into the given load. This equipment can be applied to turn on as many as 5 lamps with a power of 1 watt each which supports production activities in the injection workshop.

Abstract

PT. Multi Instrumentasi is a manufacturing company that produces water meters. In producing water meters, one of the parts is the head casing. Head casing part consists of two types namely LF-1 and LF-2. Constraints experienced by companies are the inaccessibility of head casing production targets that can hinder the sale of water meters to consumers. For this reason, a proposal to improve the lean manufacturing approach is proposed to minimize the waste that occurs. The stage of the lean manufacturing approach is to identify the production process that occurs using the Process Activity Mapping and Value Stream Mapping. Furthermore, identifying waste that occurs using fishbone diagrams. After identifying waste, waste motion is found in the process of making the head casing part with manual lathes. Subsequently, proposed improvements were made using the Single Minutes Exchange of Die (SMED) method. After the proposed improvement, the company's profitability can be calculated by comparing the existing production costs after the proposed improvements.

Abstract

Thermoacoustic generator ia one of energy conversion device that change thermal energy to acoustic form energy. This device can get many beneficial of thermal energy which banned and not be used again from industry, devices of the hospitals, geothermal, and solar energy. The device consist or two type, standing wave and traveling wave. In the research used a standing wave thermoacoustic generator because of the cost is relatively cheaper and the construction is easy to set than traveling wave type. Onset temperature is one of the most important parameter in thermoacoustic generator to be researched. In that aplication, onset temperature can representated how many the performance of this device, if seen by input energy used the system of the thermoacustic generator. Decreasing onset temperature could make  decrease of thermal energy used to generator. Beside stack and resonator length, the other parameter that more important to research is tilted angles. In this researched would be done researched with variation of tilted angles -90º, 0º, dan 90º. It would be found the effective tilted angle used, the performance was presented by the least onset temperature. The result was the tilted angle decreased when the onset temperature decreased too. If seen by the input energy, the best performance of thermoacoustic generator is on 90o tilted angle.
