Indonesian Psychological Research aims at a broad area of questions from theoretical and methodological domains of psychology, as well as applications of psychology to everyday life. We propose to publish original articles, reviews, actualities, preliminary methodological notes etc. Our goal is to provide psychologists and authors from related science fields the platform for the public presentation of their research findings, opinions or impressions about recent literature, and for another to offer the opportunity to acquaint the professional community with these findings and views. Indonesian Psychological Research is a journal that contains articles from both quantitative and qualitative research related to the field of Psychology which emphasises the novelty and originality of studies, including the areas of Islamic Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, and other related fields.

Abstract

Self-reflection is an activity that relies on memory, deliberative thinking, and accuracy in order to analyze actions that have been taken while evaluating actual processes, problems, and obstacles. The present study aimed to investigate the psychological dynamics of self-reflection in adolescents who have attempted to commit suicide. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected using in-depth interviews. This study involved three participants with history of suicidal attempts. To improve data validity, three significant others of the participants were also interviewed. The data analysis revealed some components of self-reflection that encompassed emotional reactions, thought content, and avoidance, as well as various forms of suicide attempts. Additionally, factors related to suicidal behavior, self-reflection elements, self-reflection processes, and the impact of self-reflection were also explored. The findings shed light on the psychological dynamics of the individuals who engaged in suicide attempts such as capability of transcending feelings of disappointment, anger, and pain when confronted with personal issues.

Abstract

Work engagement has been a crucial factor to promote employee’s performance. Engaged employees performs better and are more productive. The aim of this study was to examine the influence of job crafting on work engagement work among employees of startup companies in Indonesia. The present study used correlational design. Participants of this study involved 155 employees that work in startup company. They were selected using purposive sampling technique.  Data were collected using the job crafting use Job Crafting Scale (JCS) and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES). To determine the effect of job crafting on work engagement, the linier regression analysis was used. From the data analysis, there job crafting significantly affect work engagement among employees of company startups. Furthermore, job crafting explains about 46.4% variance in work engagement, while the rest was explained by other variables beyond this research. The finding of this study implies the crucial need for promoting job crafting practices among startup companies.

Abstract

The frequent use of social media can increase vulnerability of adolescents to cyberbullying. Moreover, adolescents often consider cyberbullying as a normal and natural phenomenon. Seeing cyberbully as normal behavior is known as moral disengagement. This study aimed to determine the relationship between moral disengagement and cyberbullying among adolescents that actively use social media and to test gender differences in moral disengagement and cyberbullying. This study used a quantitative correlational approach to determine the relationship between the two variables. Selected using a purposive sampling technique, a total of 265 adolescents who actively used smartphones and social media with an age range of 15-18 years participated in this study. They were recruited from a state high school in Pekanbaru, Riau. The  Hymel’s moral disengagement and the  Willard's cyberbullying behavior scale were used to measured moral disengagement and cyberbullying behavior, respectively. The result of linier regression analysis indicated a significant relationship between moral disengagement and cyberbullying among young social media users. Furthermore, it was found that the male adolescents significantly scored higher in moral disengagement and cyberbullying. Implication of this findings were further discussed.

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intentions among faculty members in Ethiopian public higher education institutions. A quantitative correlational survey design was employed, and a total of 382 participants were selected through stratified random sampling from five universities of Ethiopian public higher education institutions. To analyze the data, a descriptive approach was used to summarize the findings, while inferential analysis involved correlation and multiple regressions to examine the associations between the variables. The results showed that both intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction were significantly associated with turnover intentions. From this finding, it is recommended that the university administration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE), takes appropriate measures to ensure that faculty members receive adequate intrinsic and extrinsic job rewards. This will contribute to higher job satisfaction and reduce turnover intentions among academic staff. By addressing these factors, the institutions can retain their valuable workforce.

Abstract

Kehamilan yang dijalani oleh wanita untuk pertama kalinya disebut dengan istilah primigravida. Ibu primigravida akan mengalami perubahan cukup signifikan khususnya pada kondisi fisik yang diakibatkan oleh kehamilan, terutama pada periode trimester ketiga. Perubahan fisik ini akan mempengaruhi ibu primigravida dalam hal persepsi seberapa bernilai dirinya, yang pada gilirannya berpengaruh pada body image atau citra tubuhnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara self-esteem dan body image pada ibu primigravida. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif korelasional dengan menggunakan alat ukur modifikasi skala self-esteem berdasarkan teori dan aspek Rosenberg dan skala body Image berdasarkan teori serta aspek dari Cash. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah ibu primigravida dengan usia kehamilan minimal trimester ketiga yang berjumlah 117 partisipan. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif antara self-esteem dan body image pada ibu hamil primigravida. Hasil ini berimplikasi pada perlunya mengembangkan self-esteem dan body image yang positif akan mendukung ibu primigravida dalam menyesuaikan diri terhadap perubahan yang terjadi akibat dari kehamilan.

Abstract

Atlet seringkali merasakan ketegangan dan kecemasan sebelum dan saat menjalani pertandingan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh kecerdasan emosi dan dukungan sosial  terhadap kecemaan yang atlet rasakan saat menghadapi pertandingan (competitive anxiety). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional.  Penelitian ini melibatkan 136 atlet pencak silat di Jombang, Jawa Timur yang tergabung dalam Ikatan Pencak Silat Indonesia (IPSI). Teknik pengambilan sample menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Ada tiga alat ukur yang digunakan yaitu Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2R (CSAI-2R), Brief Emotional Intelligence Scale, dan Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis regresi linier berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kecerdasan emosi dan dukungan sosial memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap terbentuknya kecemasan saat bertanding. Atlet yang cerdas mengelola emosi serta mendapatkan dukungan sosial yang baik akan mampu mengelola kecemasan yang dirasakan saat menghadapi pertandingan. Uji secara parsial juga menggambarkan pengaruh masing-masing variabel baik kecerdasan emosi maupun dukungan sosial ikut berpengaruh pada kecemasan.

Abstract

Work is one of the basic needs of humans that should be that should be pursued. During the study, University students must prepare their career by developing plans and strategies to pursue a desired career and a dream job once they graduate from university despite many challenges and obstacles. To do this, university students need adversity quotient skills to be able to get through all the difficulties. This study aims to determine the relationship between achievement motivation and orientation to the future career among university students and to examine whether adversity quotient moderated the relationship between the variables. This study involved 90 students of the at the Faculty of Psychology State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. The instruments used were the Achievement Motivation Scale, the Orientation to the Future Career Scale in the Field of Work, and the Adversity Quotient Scale. The results showed a significant correlation between achievement motivation and future orientation in the field of work Furthermore, Adversity quotient was found to moderate the relationship between achievement motivation and orientation to future work among university students.
