Abstract

The study aims to develop a challenge appraisal scale for detecting a challenged attitude of students in responding to various academic challenges and difficulties in higher education. The research sample consisted of 309 students from various departments at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Data analysis techniques used to evaluate the psychometric property of the scale were carried out using the item discriminating analysis, reliability analysis, and exploratory factor analysis. The results showed that the items had good discriminating power with a value range of 0.381 – 0.626, good Cronbach's alpha reliability with a value of 0.823, and the factor structure of the scale construct consisted of two aspects, namely primary appraisal and secondary appraisal with loading factor values ranging from 0.578 – 0.816. Based on this study, it is known that the Challenge Appraisal Scale is suggested to have valid and reliable instrument property so that it can be used for detecting challenged attitudes of students.

Abstract

This study evaluated differences in depression, anxiety, and stress across grade levels among students in a cadet-based boarding senior high school. The study employed a quantitative approach with a comparative design, involving 423 students from grades X, XI, and XII, with an equal distribution of respondents across each grade. Data were collected using the 42-item Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-42) to measure the three psychological dimensions. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and group comparison tests, specifically applying analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Welch tests based on data distribution characteristics, followed by the Games-Howell post hoc test for variables demonstrating significant variations. The findings revealed that grade-level differences emerged exclusively for depression. Grade XI students reported higher mean depression scores (M = 6.45, SD = 7.73) than grade X students (M = 4.35, SD = 5.62), as indicated by Welch’s F (2, 275.7) = 3.62, p = .028, with the Games–Howell test confirming a significant difference between grade X and grade XI (p = .027). Anxiety and stress did not differ significantly across grade levels. Across all grades, group mean scores for the three dimensions remained within the normal-to-mild ranges of the DASS-42 norms. This study concludes that student mental health dimensions in a cadet-based boarding school environment do not develop uniformly across grade levels. Consequently, guidance and counseling services must strengthen promotive and preventive initiatives that are highly responsive to students' specific developmental phases, particularly focusing on monitoring depressive symptoms among more vulnerable student groups.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of training in the use of Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) content in enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills, particularly in the context of developing innovative guidance and counselling services in schools. The training participants consisted of 15 counsellors affiliated with the MGBK SMP in Malang Regency. The research method employed was a quantitative approach using a pre-test–post-test design to measure the participants’ increased knowledge regarding the definition, characteristics and advantages of MOOCs following the training. The results of the statistical analysis indicate that there was no significant improvement (Z = -1.723, p = 0.085 > 0.05) in cognitive performance following the training. Nevertheless, in practical terms, participants demonstrated a good ability to use the MOOC platform, access and utilise the training content, and complete the tasks assigned via the system.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Technological advances, automation, and artificial intelligence have made the future of work increasingly dynamic and unpredictable, requiring students to develop career readiness beyond choosing a major, including the ability to envision and direct themselves toward a desired future work self. This urgency is salient in Indonesia given the persistently high unemployment rate among senior secondary and vocational graduates, while research on Future Work Self-Salience (FWSS), a salient representation of oneself in future work, has mostly focused on university students and employees rather than senior high school students, who are at a critical stage of career identity formation. This study aimed to describe the level of FWSS among eleventh-grade students in Makassar City, analyze gender differences, and outline its practical application for adaptive, contextual career guidance and counseling services. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted with 160 students (80 male, 80 female) from 11 senior high schools, measured using the FWSS Scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results showed that students FWSS generally fell into the moderate category (73.75%; M = 14.09; range 5-20), with work-identity clarity developing more strongly than job-type clarity, and a significant gender difference was found (U = 4024; p = .005; r_rb = .258), with male students scoring higher. The study concludes that senior high school students in Makassar City have begun forming a future work orientation but still require systematic, gender-sensitive support, positioning the FWSS profile as an empirical basis for developing needs-based, digitally oriented career guidance and counseling services.
