Abstract

This article seeks to research principles of Christian Religious Education through exegeting Deuteronomy 6:4-9. This research uses the qualitative-descriptive method. Principles of Christian Religious Education constructed based on Deuteronomy 6:4-9 could generate balanced emphases between academic ability and spiritual formation; both are vital to equip the younger generations to face global challenges. Thus, the purpose of Christian Religious Education for children is to build a younger generation that could contribute to the broader society based on solid Christian principles. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 is guidance for parents to practice Christian Religious Education in the family. Family should be the first place for children to confess that there is only one true God, love God, do His instructions, discuss His law, reflect upon it, and bear witness to the one true God.

Abstract

The Evangelical Christian Church in Timor (GMIT) has had a policy regarding full-time teaching positions since 1999. However, in 2010 a new policy was born on teaching positions that are periodically elected. The purpose of this research is to find out 1). The rationale behind the GMIT Synod's decision on the periodically elected church teaching position. 2). The relevance of teaching positions at GMIT and Calvin's views on teaching positions and teaching ministry. With a qualitative approach, the research results found regarding the rationale for the birth of the new policy are as follows: 1). Teaching positions are not only for those who have a PAK or Theology background because service positions in GMIT refer to the ecclesiology principle of institutional principles, namely the principle of priesthood and believers and ecclesia reformata semper reformanda 2). GMIT is faced with minimal financing capacity, so the absorption capacity of the little church is limited. 3). Many teaching staff with a Christian religious education background prefer to be teachers in schools (PNS), so they have not given themselves entirely to become teachers in churches, 4). The GMIT congregations are generally not financially able to finance a pastor and a teacher. According to the author, GMIT's policy regarding recruiting teaching staff who serve as teachers periodically is irrelevant to Calvin's view.

Abstract

This paper wants to show that the ethics toward strangers, shown in the Book of Deuteronomy, is relevant to use as a guide in living together and is an antithesis to the phenomenon of racism that still occurs today. Racism is a phenomenon of injustice against certain races or groups that are considered different, foreign, and weak. The phenomenon of racism can lead to more significant problems in life, such as conflicts and human tragedies. In contrast, the law in Deuteronomy expressly denies oppression of the "strangers." Thus, understanding can be a basis for living a harmonious life together and far from injustice, including racism. Therefore, this paper offers an approach from a biblical point of view in the Book of Deuteronomy in recognizing whom a stranger (gēr) is while simultaneously demonstrating ethics in behaving towards them. This understanding guides building a harmonious life together in the present context.

Abstract

Fellowship (Greek: koinonia), as one of the church's vocations, should be able to bridge differences and change social life. However, the reality is the opposite. Christian fellowship sometimes becomes closed to people with certain social status differences. This paper aims to show that fellowship among believers can break down barriers and change lives. Through qualitative research that uses social and textual criticism methods on the Epistle of Philemon with the help of some related literature, an understanding is shown that an enslaved person who is guilty repents. Returns to his master are still counted in the Christian community and involved in the ministry. In the end, this paper concludes that a healthy Christian fellowship can transform lives. Within the Christian community, there is acceptance of one another and giving space for all people with different social statuses to actualize themselves in the life of the church, including in the community's social life.

Abstract

The role of parents and youth coaches in the growth and development of adolescent life is significant. This is because there is much news about teenage problems, such as teenage fights, school shootings, alcohol-related accidents, drugs, early pregnancy outside marriage, and teen suicide. Juvenile delinquency due to dropping out of school and lack of parental attention is also often a problem. Adolescent problems can extend to whole communities, schools, churches, cities, and countries. Teenagers at their critical age are trying to find their identity after going through childhood to adult humans. All positive and negative influences in teenagers' lives tend to be easily absorbed, studied, and carried out, even though many are developed as innovations from their creativity. The presence of the adolescent phenomenon from Citayam has recently become the author's interest to examine the role of parents and youth coaches in responding to their influence on teenagers as the next generation of the Kingdom of God. The phenomenon of Citayam youth brings positive and negative impacts and brings a new challenge for parents and youth coaches to answer the challenges of today's youth. This research was made using a qualitative literature study from the Bible, books about teenagers, articles, and social media content about the Citayam youth phenomenon.

Abstract

The problem studied in this article is to answer the importance of God's servants remaining faithful in serving the work of God entrusted to them. Loyalty in serving God's work is a servant character that is required from God from the start of serving until reaching the finish line. The method used in this article is a literature study method. The result shows that the faithfulness of a servant of God reflects his personal character. He is a man who holds strong commitments before God as shown by the prophet Isaiah. Despite rejection from the leaders and people of Judah, Isaiah remained faithful in prophesying until the end of his life. This model of a servant of God is needed in today's ecclesiastical ministry to serve the congregation so that they remain faithful in their faith even though they are faced with current turmoil and challenges.

Abstract

This research focuses on finding Paul's conflict management strategies to resolve conflicts in the Corinthian Church. For this reason, this study analyzes the text of 1 Corinthians 3:1-17. Moreover, by using the exegesis study of the passage above, the researcher found several conflict management strategies that were applied by Paul there. Such as accommodative strategies (Paul gives advice and warnings), avoiding (Paul explains the substance of a servant), collaboration (the Church puts aside the ego and explanations that Paul and Apollos are just servants), and compromise (prioritizes common interests and sees the Church as a building of God that must unite).

Abstract

Any institution in the world certainly experiences challenges, including service institutions. When this happens, the synergy between leaders and followers is needed to find a way out. Nevertheless, often synergy does not occur because followers are passive in participating in the crisis that hit. Follower support has a positive impact on leaders. Psalm 20 can provide a biblical basis for synergy between leaders and followers during institutional struggles. The approach used is the hermeneutics of poetry, especially the analysis of its structure and themes. The structure and coherence of the theme can help find the concept of synergism in Psalm 20. The results show that Psalm 20 contains a chiasm structure. With an assessment of the group of persons, repetition of keywords, and types of parallelism, the chiasmus is composed as follows: A (v. 2), B (vv. 3-6), C (v. 7), B' (v. 8 - 9), A' (v. 10). Part C is action while part AA' is inclusion, and both of these parts contain the word 'answer' as a guide to the theme. Part B parallels part B' and supports the theme. The theme of Psalm 20 is waiting for an answer, namely protecting the king's life and victory. The findings show the synergy between leaders and followers. First, evidenced by cooperative behaviour in the action and inclusive sections; second, evidenced by the supportive followers in verses 3-6; and third, by the inspirational leader in verses 7-9.

Abstract

There is a decline in the population of Christians in the world from 2010 to 2020, and the primary cause is the slowing down of mission and evangelization efforts.  Christians no longer see the urgent need of reaping the harvest of souls.  Therefore, there is a need for Harvest Theology based on a solid biblical foundation to revitalize today’s mission. This paper uses exploratory and explanatory research methods to come up with a conclusion that churches need to develop Harvest Theology that creates effective strategies as well as focuses resources to reach receptive people; especially among the unreached people group. Harvest Theology is a counter to search theology that emphasizes finding the lost and multiplication of churches. Harvest Theology is very important to be revitalized because of the declining percentage of Christians in the period 2010 to 2020. Through exploratory and explanatory research methods, the author tries to convince readers that Harvest Theology is based on a solid biblical foundation and is vital to revitalizing today's mission. In revitalizing Harvest Theology, we need to develop mission strategies that focus on receptive people, which will give a great harvest in today's mission.

Abstract

The Church's encounter with culture makes it possible for the Church to accept or reject cultures. HKBP Church is one of the tribal churches in Indonesia that accepts and takes care of the Toba Batak tradition. The HKBP Church's acceptance of culture has been accompanied by prohibitions and teachings in the Confession Book and Ruhut Parmahanion Paminsangon (RPP) books. However, there are still congregations that carry out occult practices. This article aims to discuss the current and future manners of the HKBP Church towards occult practices and exorcism in the Toba Batak community. The author will use a qualitative method with literature studies, namely contextualization efforts based on Stephen B. Bevans' theory, especially the synthesis model and based on Richard Niebuhr's views on Christ and Culture, Edgar H. Schein on the cultural structure and Martin Luther on Exorcism. This study finds that the Toba Batak tradition contains positive and negative values. Therefore, this study suggests that the Church needs to conduct a cultural review to find the correct tradition, and the Church must take part in the practice of exorcism.
