Abstract

Globally, there has been a breakdown in the area of science education; therefore there is a great need for curriculum reform so that the vision and mission will be clearly stated and that the stakeholders will be fair when redesigning the curriculum so that it satisfies the needs of students. There have been recommendations for education programs emphasized issues, such as updated scientific and technologic knowledge, application of contemporary learning theory and teaching strategies” (Bybee & McInerne, 1995). Also, there is a consensus amongst science teachers that students’ study too many areas, without enough depth in each, therefore, a reform of the curriculum is of great need. Rodger W. Bybee of The National Academy of Science also reveals that the level of support for curriculum reform is unprecedented in the history of American education. Additionally, the curricula in middle schools contain too many disconnected themes. In addition, each topic is given equal priority which discourages the in-depth study of foundational topics. It is therefore recommended a revised curriculum that emphasizes a more practical set of foundational themes and concepts are needed in the study of science. For this study, the researcher used a combination of methods to gather data that was then analyzed. Questionnaires, surveys and observation were the channels to acquire information. The purpose of the study is to examine if education and curriculum reform can impact the way we learn, and how. The analyzed data will be used for further research as well as to influence curriculum reform in educational systems.

Abstract

The study examined the various development theories and concepts that have guided the community development practices. These concepts examined included the notion of community development, participation, empowerment and mobilization, and how they inform one another in terms of practice with particular reference to Irasa, a predominantly agrarian community in Ekiti State, Nigeria. An instrument tagged ‘Questionnaire on Development’ was used to obtain information from 30 randomly selected respondents. Results obtained revealed that Community Development Projects (CDPs) could be exploited for the provisions of basic amenities to enhance the quality of life of community dwellers. The involvement of all stakeholders in CDPs planning, implementation and sustainability was obtained. These attributes contributed to the successful implementations of several CDPs in the community. This bottom-up approach tends to suggest the use of modernization theory in Irasa community, the study area.

Abstract

The aim of the study is to analyze the effect of the quantum teaching model with camtasia instructional media and learning motivation on PPKn subject learning outcomes. This study is conducted in 7th grade student of junior high school PGRI 4 Medan with a population of 46 students. The sample in this study were 39 students is using purposive random sampling technique. The instruments of this study are learning outcomes tests and learning motivation questionnaires. This study uses quasi-experimental methods, while the research design uses Non Equivalent Control Group Design. Data analysis techniques used in this study are descriptive analysis and also non-parametric inferential statistics. This study is based on the 2013 curriculum teaching which gives authentic assessment to students which includes cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, therefore this study presents the acquisition of learning outcomes in terms of cognitive, affective, as well as psychomotor. There are 3 hypotheses that have been proven in this study including: PPKn learning outcomes of students taught using Quantum Teaching models with camtasia instructional media is more higher than the PPKn learning outcomes of students taught by using Quantum Teaching models with media images, PPKn learning outcomes of students who have high learning motivation is more higher than students who have low learning motivation, and there is an interaction between the Quantum Teaching learning model and camtasia instructional media and learning motivation on the PPKn learning outcomes of 7th grade student of junior high school PGRI 4 Medan. The conclusion show that the use of the Quantum Teaching Model with camtasia instructional media and learning motivation is very effected in improving learning outcomes both cognitive, affective, and psychomotor.

Abstract

The aims of the study to find out the extent of the effect of plyometric training on the ability to squat-style long jump on 2th grade male students of SMP Negeri 2 Manganitu. There is an influence of plyometric training on the ability to squat-style long jump in 2th grade male students of SMP Negeri 2 Manganitu. The research method used was an experimental method with treatment in the form of an exercise program given for eight weeks. The population was all male students of 2th grade of SMP Negeri 2 Manganitu amounting to 20 people and a sample of 20 people, then divided into two groups each with 10 experimental groups and 10 control groups. Data collection instruments: Squat-style long jump test. The study design uses: randomized control groups pre-test and post-test design. Hypothesis testing using statistical techniques with t test. The results of hypothesis analysis, obtained t observation of 21.63, while t table obtained from the degree of freedom n-1 + n2 - 2 that is 10 + 10 - 2 = 18 and the level of confidence = 0.05 is 2.10. In accordance with the test criteria accept Ho if t observation is smaller than t table and reject Ho if t observation is greater than t table. Because t observation is greater than t table, the results of the analysis show reject Ho and accept Ha. Conclusion: Pliometric exercises given for eight weeks with a frequency of three times a week can improve the squat-style long jump ability in male students of 2th grade SMP Negeri 2 Manganitu.
