Abstract

Abstract: This paper aims to show that preferential option for the poor is an act of kenosis. Kenosis is often understood as an act of self-emptying. However, in the contemporary context a question arises regarding the absence of human agency and human freedom in the face of the act of self-emptying. Marxism, for example, criticizes Christian morality based on this kind of kenosis as an opium for the poor. On the other hand, liberation theology sometimes places too much emphasis on agency and freedom, so that it is accused of being a Marxist. Pope Francis said that preferential option for the poor is more of a theological category rather than a sociological, philosophical or political one. Through Hans Urs von Balthasar's kenosis theology, the vision of preferential option for the poor has a new meaning. This means that, one must not fall to one of the extremes, either as a passive act or an overly aggressive action. Freedom and agency are understood in a new way in terms of Divine love as seen in the Trinitarian love relationship. The struggle for justice and the suffering of the poor empowers the poor as concrete historical subjects. They are not passive objects deceived by self-emptying.

Abstract

One of the central themes discussed both internationally and nationally is about humanity which is identified with human rights. Religiosity is no less talked about it, including the Church of Asia through the Asian Bishops' Conference which in 2020 celebrated its presence for fifty years. Two declarations from the United Nations and the ASEAN declaration provide directions for upholding humanity and the Asian Bishops Conference document provides the basis for humanity to be more honored and respected. To arrive at the aim of discussing the contribution of the Asian Bishops' Conference to respect and honor humanity, the discussion will begin with an overview of humanity from religious and philosophical dimensions. The two United Nations declarations and the ASEAN declaration provide directions for humanity that serve as guidelines for respecting it. The document of the Asian Bishops' Conference, while respecting the declarations issued by various agencies, illuminates the implications for respecting and respecting humanity. This study uses many sources of documents and humanitarian movements in Asia and Indonesia as well and this paper concludes with a conclusion that gives the reason for Asia being the highest violator of humanity in the world.

Abstract

Abstract

Sacramentary 2020 helps create a new prayer dynamic as well as challenge for Catholics particularly in our Eucharistic celebrations. It was approved by the Indonesian Bishop Conferences (KWI) on December 27, 2020. Indonesian Sacramentary is a fruit of inculturation in Indonesia. The question to be answered: is sacramentary a fruit of inculturaltion? A method employed in this article is a qualitative one. It particularly uses library studies, guided by theories of inculturation as a continuous process. Furthermore, in this method the Gospel is proclaimed and reflected into its socio-political as well as cultural-religious environment while gradually transforming people and its society. This research shows indeed that Sacramentary 2020 has well-reflected an inculturation into an Indonesian context. Sacramentary 2020 is the fruit of a long and ongoing process of liturgical inculturation by the Indonesian Catholic Church. Since Eucharistic celebration is the culmination and central in our Christian life, the process of inculturation of the Sacramentary 2020 reflects the dynamic of inculturation of the Indonesian Church. This inculturation process involved the faithful of all level, from hierarchy to religious men and women, various experts as well as the people of God in general.

Abstract

When Sukarno proposed the concept of Pancasila (Five Principles) in the meeting of the Investigative Body for the Preparation of Indonesian Independence (BPUPK) in 1945, Kebangsaan Indonesia (Indonesian Nationalism) was proposed by Sukarno as the first principle of Pancasila. However, Panitia Sembilan (the Committee of Nine), a sub-committee of BPUPK, changed the wording into Persatuan Indonesia (Unity of Indonesia). Persatuan Indonesia was accepted by BPUPK, but as the third principle. At the time, the region that would be known as Indonesia was ruled by three military governments, each controlled by a branch of the Japanese military. Panitia Sembilan feared that the occupying Japanese regime would give independence to several nations according to Japanese military rules rather than to Indonesia as one nation. An analysis on the impact of this change indicated a change in the fundamental philosophical and ethical meanings inherent in Kebangsaan Indonesia. While Kebangsaan Indonesia honored the diversity of Indonesia and valued the autonomy of each province in Indonesia, Persatuan Indonesia put the control at the central level, which eventually led to the conflict between the central and provincial governments.

Abstract

Digital culture is a new reality that affects human existence in the 21st century. With the development of technology, this culture also determines the way humans are present. Presence that could originally be interpreted through its personality is now eroded by a digital system that is completely artificial and meaningless. This causes a crisis of the meaning of presence and invites attention from various sides. Theologically, the meaning of presence cannot be represented by a technological system because technology is only a means without the intensity of awareness that is operationalized for the benefit of humans. Presence can only be interpreted through encounters between human beings in the wholeness of body, soul, and spirit which were originally created in the likeness and image of God. Therefore, in responding to digital culture, theology must be critical in order to address the meaning of presence so that it is not reduced or distorted by the negative impact of digital culture. This research uses a descriptive research method that aims to describe factual information, identify characteristics, trends, relationships and categories, as study material. The study materials used in this paper are sourced from relevant literature and support the completeness of research on the problems being studied, such as scientific journal articles and books.

Abstract

This paper aims to present the relevance of Foucault’s technology of the self to face the future of the post-coronavirus world. The significance of Foucault technology of the self lies in the practice of self-forming where the pandemic era has urged humans to evaluate their subjectivity. It is because the subject is faced with the external challenge of the biopolitics of the state as well as internal challenge of the Subject’s future anxiety. Hence, this study tries to respond to these problems by analyzing Foucault's technology of the self which was inspired by the ancient practice of the care of the self to practice self-examination in order to achieve self-mastery. In compiling this paper, the author applied a qualitative methodology through which descriptive, textual, and contextual analyses are applied to written materials related to the subject matter. By developing self-mastery techniques, Foucault presupposes the individual to be a critical and reflective subject who will actively respond to biopolitics as well as his own subjectivity.
