Abstract

There is an expression in learning history like this: “Nothing is new in history, except the way of reading and new hermeneutics over historical events.” Such an expression is not thoroughly false, since human experience makes new understanding or even sometime makes new discovery of historical facts. History is not changeable on the one hand, but interpretation and hermeneutics over history is always developing on the other. Historical perspective is also in its part changing “history”. Historian being in disposal to serve humanity should be open and faithful to the objective truth of history that is based on various sources of historical data. Wieesteingentlichgewesendoes not stand alone without foundation of ideas, interests pursued, and even psychological motivation. Rereading of the past events and our understanding of them are but spirit or soul of historical study. Research, choice, formulation, and publication of historical sources become sort of scientific dialogue-field in the midst of amnesia and instant culture. In this article, we deal with how historian emerges himself into his scientific field in order to pursue quality of contribution to humanity. One of topics dealt with is about the past event that, we believe, is a formative treasure of humanity. The characteristic of that treasure is socialcultural. We do believe that unless with freedom from serving to political power, we can not put forward good contribution to the quality of living together with dignity simply because historical study goes along with concrete culture of people

Abstract

Abstract

The teaching of the Second Vatican Council on Mary (the mother of Jesus) is laid down in Chapter VIII of the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium (LG). Lumen Gentium’s chapter VIII represents a 20th century microhistory of mariology and a magna charta of post-conciliar mariology. The purpose of this essay is exposing three matters. Firstly, showing evidence that the elaboration of the marian texts of Vatican II is a reproduction of pre-conciliar mariological struggles. Secondly, articulating the character of Vatican II’s mariology as a fundament for post-conciliar mariology. Thirdly, pointing at some matters somewhat neglected by Vatican II’s mariology and offering it as “home work” for post-conciliar mariology. In this framework, this essay will not analyze the content of Lumen Gentium’s mariology article by article, but evaluate it comprehensively. May this essay provide a kind of orientation to the reader in having an idea of post-conciliar mariology

Abstract

Husserl wrote a book Die Krisis der europäischen Wissenschaft und die transzendentale Phänomenologie, eine Einleitung in die phänomenologische Philosophie as an effort to understand the situations in Europe at the begining of 20th century. He saw that Europe experienced crisis of cilivation that has root in the crisis of reason itself. Husserl tried to analyze the root of this crisis and provided possible solutions in the form of transcendental phenomenology. One of the most important concept in the transcendental phenomenology is the concept of lifeworld.Hussserl’s arguments are still relevant to understand our current situations in the begining of 21th century. However, several assumptions of his arguments have to be read critically

Abstract

Religion for human beings is like a sword with two blade-eyes. Religion takes big role for development of human civilization such as promoting values of human dignity, human rights, justice and peaceful living together on the one hand; but religion also appears as the one with antagonistic and destructive eyes on the other. For the sake of religion man can be immediately “moral policeman” who takes surveillance of other persons or even do some unjust things to others especially those who are not in the same line of their beliefs. The existence of radical and fundamental movements proves the “face” of terroristic and unfriendly presence of religion. This is paradox of existence of religion. No religion has ever a destructive doctrine. All of religions pursue peace and justice. This study will deal with “inclusive faith” from the margins of Malang, that is “Pondok Pesantren Sabilurrosyad Gasek, Kelurahan Karang Besuki” (Boarding school Pesantren). To build an inclusive faith becomes sort of alternative way outs to avoid radicalism and fundamentalism of religion. Religious faith does not mean exclusivism. Faith must be inclusivism. The more a person possesses faith the more inclusive and friendly he will be. This research is an attempt of applying phenomenological approach

Abstract

Education of peace is not just normative, it does not stem naturally from religion. It must be a comprehensive program that comes from and is lived in our daily experience. Such a program cannot be presumed only in the existence of law enforcement such as SKB (“Surat Keputusan Bersama” or Letter of the Common Consent) or the like. The study is interested in pursuing knowledge of peace education based on the lived experience. Research applies phenomenological methodology on peace education as experienced in everyday life in “Pondok Pesantren anwarul Huda”, Malang.

Indonesia has founding fathers that have any brilliant ideas. At the time of drawing up the independence, they have debated each other for the sake of strong base of Indonesia. Their ideas have been embraced in conference brochure of BPUPKI. One of the figure that made especial reference in this paper is Soekarno. Abstract

The study is a comparative study of Thomas Aquinas and Dewa Ruci on purpose of human life as comparaton between Western and Eastern philosophy. Aquinas is the representative of the Western philosophy, whereas Dewa Ruci is sort of philosophical legacy of the Est. Dealing with idea of Aquinas on purpose of human life I go to the Summa Theologica. Aquinas gives an interesting ideas worthed to explore. Dewa Ruci is that of “Serat”, a Javanese literature on the lived experience of the so-called Bima who transformed himself into Dewa Ruci after undergoing spiritual retreat. The “Serat” contains philosophical wisdom typically Javanese and “Eastern” particularly related to “divine” purpose of human life.

Abstract

St. Bonaventure was one of the great medieval theologians who constructed his theology by employing not only philosophical and biblical ideas but also aesthetics. To him, the most holy triune God is the very source of all beauty. Divine beauty gushes forth from the very center of Trinity like a river. God the Father is the source of all beauty, the Son is called “Ars Patris” who reflects the Father’s beauty and the Holy Spirit is divine Beauty that renews, recreates and replenishes humanity, church and the whole world. In another words, humanity, church as the body of Christ and the whole created realities embody and reflect God’s magnificent beauty. All sacraments, in a very special way, mediate God’s power and beauty to the whole mystical body of Christ. They are visible signs established by God to renew, beautify and save God’s children. The most holy triune God is both the Origin and the End of all beauty. God will restore, renew and beautify humanity the church, and the whole world at the end of time. Bonaventure’s aesthetic theology is relevant to our context and his unique way of doing theology inspires us in our endeavor to construct a contextual theology in Indonesia.

Abstract

The great Carmelite mystic, St.Teresa of Jesus, in her didactic and devotional poem titled Eficacia De La Paciencia or Efficacy of Patience gives this advice in the opening line “Let nothing trouble you” and concludes with this saying, “God alone suffices”. Who in this life can say this and when? What does it mean? What does it mean in practical life? What should we do? I try to answer these questions in the light of Scripture, the Book of Life.
