Abstract

This research aimed to describe the effectiveness of the flipped classroom integrated with nested model in student’s concept understanding and motivation to learn. The research type is quasi-experiment with one-group pretest-posttest design. The research was given to 20 students in VII-D class of SMPN 21 Surabaya. The effectiveness of the flipped classroom integrated with nested model was obtained from the results of a concept understanding test and a motivation to learn questionnaire. The student's concept understanding test showed that there was an improvement in gain scores between the pretest and posttest scores which is medium category and 90% of students were declared complete. Meanwhile, the gain score on the completeness of the concept understanding indicator was high category. Then the results of the student’s motivation to learn showed that there was an improvement in gain scores between pretest and posttest which is medium category. The data obtained that flipped classroom integrated with nested model was effective as a learning instrument to improve student’s concept understanding and motivation to learn during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Drug abuse among college students is a worrying problem and threatens the survival of the nation. At Health University (HU) of Healthy Building Indonesian National Nurses Association (INNA) Mojokerto East Java, drug education is also provided for nursing students. Therefore, the researcher conducted a literature review regarding the development of a curriculum management model for the addiction study program at HU INNA Mojokerto, East Java. This is useful as a foundation for researchers to establish schools with addiction science with the specialization of nurses and addiction counsellors who can later assist in treating victims of drug addiction and providing counselling services to drug addicts. The results shows that as for the components of mastery of knowledge, special work abilities, and authority and responsibility, it refers to the level 6 INQF in the field of addiction treatment that has been agreed upon by the INQF Directorate General of Higher Education drafting team involving the INNA. The implication of this research is to prepare the curriculum with the aim of providing guidelines for institutions providing addiction care services education in Indonesia. Abstract

Communication skills in physics learning are essential to life talents that can be used to solve problems in everyday life. The Read Outline Discussion Evaluation (RODE) model is a learning tool designed to help students improve their communication skills. This research was conducted in the Elementary School Teacher Study Program with Basic Science 2nd material and involved 100 students. This study focuses on improving students' writing communication skills before and after the teaching process with the RODE learning model to determine the effectiveness of the RODE learning model. This study used one group pretest-posttest design (O1-x-O2). Before being applied to the RODE learning model, the average score of the indicators of students' written communication skills was at a low level (1, 24), and it had a score of 3.68 (high level) after the RODE learning model was implemented. This result shows that the RODE model significantly impacts students' written communication skills in the high category for both classes. In addition, students' written communication skills improved in the high category, N-gain significantly increased in the high criteria, and consistent N-gain was observed in the Elementary School Teacher Study Program.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of STEM-based guided inquiry learning on physics science literacy. This study uses a research and development (R & D) development model with a one group pretest-posttest design. The sample used was class XI students with three replications. The data collection technique is in the form of a science literacy test sheet. Then analyzed with a quantitative and qualitative descriptive approach. The research data shows that the learning model developed is theoretically valid by three expert validators. The effectiveness of learning tools is shown by the science literacy scores of students who have increased after applying the STEM-based guided inquiry learning model. Based on the discussion of the research results, it can be concluded that the learning tools developed are effectively applied in schools to train students' science literacy in sound wave material.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of critical thinking based on argumentation learning in senior high school. This study used a quantitative descriptive study with a subject of 30 students. Subjects were asked to choose the correct answer based on the questionnaire and questions about critical thinking. The results from the questionnaire showed that students' critical thinking skills are 43% in the low category; 47% in the medium category, and 10% students in the high category. As evidenced by the average test results of critical thinking skills, the results obtained are 57.5 in the low category. In the indicator of formulating problems, the results obtained are 57.5 with low critical thinking categories; indicators provide arguments and analyze results 50 with low critical thinking categories; and the result deduction indicator is 60 with medium critical thinking category. Therefore, it can be recommended that the first step to improving critical thinking skills is to conduct argumentation-based learning so that students can convey arguments in physics learning and students' critical thinking skills can increase, so that it's expected to produce competent students according to 21st-century learning.

Abstract

Poor task persistence is a major inhibitor of effective learning among students with hearing impairment. This study investigated the effect of strategic content learning (SCL) on poor task persistence of students with hearing loss in Nigeria. The study adopted a pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 117 participants from four special schools for hearing impaired in South-East Nigeria completed a task persistence scale at pre-treatment, post-treatment, and follow-up. Intervention was carried out for nine weeks using strategic content learning program manual. Data collected were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance, chi-square, and t-test. Results revealed that task persistence of hearing impaired college students of SCL group were significantly improved compared to those in waitlist control group at the end of the intervention. Follow-up tests conducted after three months and six months revealed that the significant improvement in task persistence of participants in the experimental group was sustained. Result of the current study show that SCL is an effective strategy straining approach that can improve students’ task persistence in different areas of learning. Further studies could be conducted in Nigeria and other countries to investigate the efficacy of SCL in improving self-efficacy and volition among diverse populations of students.
