Abstract

The focus of this paper is on the relationship between the state and religion in the Indonesian political space from the perspective of Machiavelli's state-religion relationship. The relationship between religion and the state in the Indonesian political space needs to be reviewed because in certain contexts religion appears to be more powerful than the state, which itself is more expansive. Machiavelli's concept of the relationship between the state and religion is the starting point for examining the relationship between the state and religion in Indonesia. This paper uses a qualitative approach accompanied by a critical analysis of Machiavelli's thoughts on the relationship between state and religion and the relationship between state and religion as it appears in the Indonesian political sphere. As a result, this paper shows that in Indonesia, religion seems to be bigger than the state in its politics. The power of religion over the state is evident in various facts that occur in society. This fact can only be overcome by curbing the influence of religion by following Machiavelli's thought. Religion is not removed from the political space of the Indonesian state, but is used as a tool that can achieve a better common life while strengthening the state.

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of home in the philosophical thought of Emmanuel Levinas. Levinas has a rich background in philosophical thought, especially in the field of ethics. The purpose of this article is to examine and analyze Levinas’ concept to gain an understanding of the home as an ethical space that encourages relationships and responsibility between people. The philosophical analysis in this article uses the literature study method and concentrates on Levinas’s concepts found in the book ’Totality and Infinity’. Levinas reveals that home is a spatial center that inspires the process of humanization because it is a place for humans to get answers to all their hopes. According to Levinas, home is a space that has a close relationship with human existence. Home is not only a place to live or a place for ordinary activities, but also a special space with philosophical and ethical meanings. Home is a representation of life; a place to start and sustain life; a place to enjoy life; a place to determine the true existence of human beings. Levinas’ concept allows humans to work and shape everything they have in order to give birth to hospitality, openness to accept the ’Other’ in every encounter with the world outside their home. Levinas emphasizes that the concept of home forms the basis of ethical interaction that encourages the development of true humanity. Through in-depth analysis of the concept of home, it is found that home is not only a material object or physical place, but also refers to the process of forming ethical awareness of each individual in building relationships and responsibilities towards fellow humans and the environment. This concept can be used as a reference to understand humans and their ownership, and can be studied and examined in various contexts.

Abstract

Holisitic Education is an approach to learning that encompasses social, emotional, spiritual, and moral (character) aspects. Holistic Education is considered capable of addressing the challenges in the world of education where some institutions focus solely on academics. By combining Holistic Education with Sufism, it is believed that more efficient and innovative learning can be created. This can be implemented in Islamic educational institutions in curriculum development, which is also important to be done continuously according to needs. The purpose of this research is to determine that Holistic Education can be created with a Sufism approach through curriculum development. The method used is library research, which does not require researchers to directly engage in fieldwork but rather find data through scientific writings such as journals, books, and articles. The results of this study show that Holistic Education with a Sufism approach in curriculum development can have a positive impact on students themselves, particularly in spiritual, social, and moral aspects

Abstract

This article aims to analyze further Hannah Arendt’s idea on the banality of evil and freedom to think by placing it back in its specific context namely the problem of totalitarianism. The main argument of this article is that the concept of the banality of evil can only be understood in terms of individual existence in totalitarian regime, or in a social and political atmosphere where freedom to think and creative imagination are hindered by totalitarian power. The method of this study is library research and critical analysis of primary literatures namely Arendt’s works, especially Eichmann in Jerusalem, and secondary literatures that discuss Arendt’s thought on the banality of evil. This study indicates that the banality of evil is a different type of evil that rises in a totalitarian regime when the moral status of evil is exceeded by the claims of normality or normativity. Therefore, thinking as dialogue with conscience can prevent someone to commit the banality of evil. Thus, overcoming the banality of evil requires both critical thinking capacity and a friendly political system to freedom of thought.

Abstract

This article discusses the phenomenon of environmental damage due to Freeport's mining exploitation in Papua. The activities of Freeport mining have caused environmental pollution in the Papua region. The purpose of this paper is to criticize Freeport's mining activities as actions that no longer consider the integrity of nature and society. The people are no longer seeing nature as the center and source of life but as a reality that serves human interests. Method used in this paper is a critical analysis of the phenomenon of environmental damage in Papua in terms of Hans Jonas' ethics of responsibility. Phenomena of environmental damage in Papua is a form of irresponsible actions carried out by PT Freeport which only focuses on fulfilling personal interests without considering the integrity of nature created in the future. Destroying nature is tantamount to destroying the future of mankind. The ethics of responsibility of Hans Jonas provides a new model of thinking for society and government institutions, namely that humans must preserve and maintain the integrity of nature as a form of responsibility for the sustainability of life in the present and future. The act of preserving the environment can only occur if there is fear (the fear heuristic) in every society to damage nature because nature basically has moral rights, and especially the act of destroying nature carried out by the community threatens the survival of Indonesian society in the future.

Abstract

This study discusses the implications of the axiology of science on implementing the Aceh Qanun, a collection of legal regulations in force in Aceh. Axiology, which is a field of study that emphasizes the use of values and ethics in science, tries to find loopholes in the impact of applying values and ethics in the context of the Aceh Qanun. This research shows that the application of the axiology of science has an existence in the implementation of the Aceh Qanun such as strengthening Aceh's local cultural identity and preserving Islamic teachings which have been a feature of law in Aceh for a long time. The public often does not understand the implementation of the Aceh Qanun because of the dualism of the rules in Aceh. Therefore in this paper, the author will explain how the axiology of science can be the basis for understanding the legal system. This study concludes that the application of scientific axiology to the implementation of the Aceh Qanunhas a positive impact in ensuring an understanding of values and ethics in the policies implemented. It is important in the future to consider aspects of justice, equity, social welfare, and harmonization of national law in maintaining the stability of the statutory hierarchy. Another implication is seen in the contribution of science axiology as a strong foundation for policies that reflect the needs of society. This study uses a qualitative method with library research on various books and journals that can be used as a reference for the development of the Aceh Qanun and its implementation.

Abstract

Ecofeminism as a theory is far from complete to solve the problems of climate injustice, gender and even other problems that may be under the umbrella of ecofeminism. This article finds that ecofeminism is sufficient as a scientific stance (axiology), but not enough at the epistemic level. The tendency of ecofeminism theorists to characterize the ontology of nature and women: with specific gender or other analogies, instead of focusing on the scope of "explanation and methodology" makes it not holistic and stuck as an academic study. The rest of this article constructs an adequate epistemology for academics to use ecofeminism, namely with W. V. O. Quine's naturalized epistemology as an offer to lubricate the ontological burden of ecofeminist theory which actually makes the ecofeminist journey towards climate and gender justice stuck.

Abstract

This article analyzes contemporary problems in social philosophy from the perspective of existentialism, with the following findings: First, existentialism brings a more comprehensive perspective in understanding social change by placing individual experience and freedom as the starting point. It criticizes established thinking that degrades the subjective dimension and rejects dominating thoughts that simplify human existence as a material object in a social context. Second, existentialism criticizes the construction of social concepts based solely on abstractions and neglects the subjective dimension of humans. It recognizes the importance of emotional, spiritual, and existential dimensions in shaping diverse societies, making existentialism an alternative and comprehensive perspective in analyzing the individual identity process within the context of identity crisis in a modern society limited by norms that restrict individual freedom. Third, existentialism offers alternative solutions to contemporary issues and crises of values in society by placing human experience and uniqueness as the subject in identity formation. It also helps build inclusive and comprehensive views in analyzing contemporary social phenomena.
