Abstract

This study examined the challenges of governance and failure of projects implementation in the power sector under the control of BEDC in the four states under its jurisdiction or control. A cross-sectional research design and purposive sampling technique were adopted.  Questionnaire was employed as the research instrument for this study with 93 respondents deemed usable. Data collected were analysed using percentages and Pearson’s coefficient of correlation with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 22. T The study found that the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) is responsible for failure in projects implementation as per the reasons received from the responses which are; there is no corporate accountability and transparency in the company, poor leadership and a continued work ethics violation by the management cadre of the company, this off course will always impact on project implementation negatively. Inaccurate project costing, poor planning and estimation also leads to failure in project implementation. The study also discovered that poor/bad governance was the root cause of project execution failure. It was discovered that the government's insufficient funding for power projects makes implementations nearly impossible and contributes to ineffective electricity production, distribution, and supply. The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between poor/bad governance, the BEDC and failure in project implementation in the power sector. Conclusively, it will be simplified to say that the causes for failure in projects implementation in the power sector under the control of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) is been shared by the government and the BEDC. On the basis of these findings of this study, the author recommends among others that the government should team up with the electricity distribution companies to provide pre-paid meters to all electricity end users. The unavailability of prepaid meters leads to overbilling of customers; and at this, people are discouraged to make full payments. But with the provision of prepaid meters, end users will pay according to consumption, which therefore means that individuals cannot have access to electricity when they fail to subscribe.

Abstract

Visual representation becomes a mode of comprehending the world and news media are among the major carriers of visual image. How media represent women through texts and images are considered to be a key influence on people’s idea of women’s position in society. This research anchored on the theoretical lens of feminist media theory, media representation and media objectification theory, investigated how women are represented in news and feature photographs of Bangladeshi newspapers. This study has employed content analysis method for data collection. Two top circulation Bangladeshi national dailies, the Daily Star and the Prothom Alo, were chosen purposively. Newspaper copies of one year, for the period of 1st January to 31st December 2022, were chosen for the study. Following Stempel’s (1952) suggestion, researcher decided to scrutiny 24 issues of each newspaper, taking copies dated 2 and 16 of every month as sample. This study found that women are underrepresented and misrepresented in news and feature photographs. Even in the dailies, considered by many as prestige newspapers, women are rarely presented as protagonists in photos. Although improvements are noticeable in some aspects, news and feature photos still present women as negative, trivial and associate mostly with the private sphere (household and family life). Findings of the study validates the observation we found in previous researches that women continue to be marginalized in news and feature photos.

Research of the word formation process and particles of langage is interesting to study since these languages is a very special languages in western North Sumatera. The method of the research is descriptive qualitative method, the data was taken from some informants or native speakers of Angkola Barumun and Angkola Tapanuli Selatan through their chat in whats app  group. Their chating in written form was analyzed to search out the types of word formations and particles in Angkola Barumun and Angkola Tapanuli Selatan language. The findings showed that the word formation process occurred in three processes, namely blending, derivation, and back formation. Here, derivation dominate the other processes which occurred in six words. The back formation processes occurred in five words, followed by the derivation processes with three words. Nevertheless, the clipping, acronym, coinage, and borrowing processes were not found in this study. Meanwhile, the particles of language in Angkola Barumun and Angkola Tapanuli Selatan language were du (do), pe, ma, as based on the native speakers’ written text on their script.

Abstract

The Niger Delta region of Nigeria has become a paradox of poverty, underdevelopment and neglect in the midst of wealth. The region is endowed with rich deposits of crude oil, but its people are suffering from excruciating poverty, environmental degradation and policy neglect. Through historical survey method, the paper explored the earlier cases of agitation for attention before the attainment of independence, and the empirical cases of the regions concerted approach to cry out because of abandonment, policy inconsistencies and a near neglect of the region. The paper explored the subject in terms of government efforts at obviating their palpable efforts at failure, the irresponsibility of the oil exploring and processing companies and the very hazardous cases of environmental degradation. The paper makes a case for the fact that giving attention to the region must become a mandate for every regime, since it has become a policy trust. It went on to alert the present government that the NDDC has a clear mission for the development of the region. And that their renewed hope agenda does not have to look too far. It went further to aver that adopting the polycentric approach to policy making, stakeholders, governments, the communities and the people in the region would become the better for it.

Abstract

Learning in the 21st century very develop rapidly, along with with development of the era of globalization that leads to to the digital era. Along with with change era that, then world education is also facing a new era, namely the era of education that is directed on digitalization. In the era of rapidly developing globalization, education faces major challenges in preparing students to face the needs and demands of the 21st century. Learning in this century does not only focus on mastering theoretical knowledge, but also 21st century skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication ( 4C ). In response to these changes, the assessment models used in education also need to undergo a transformation. This is where the important role of authentic assessment, which aims to assess skills that are relevant to the real world, becomes increasingly important. Authentic assessment offers a more holistic approach by measuring students' ability to apply their knowledge in practical contexts, rather than simply testing memorization or theoretical understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of using collaborative learning activities in reducing students' speaking anxiety. Collaborative learning methods are expected to have a positive impact on students' speaking skills by increasing their active participation in class. This study used an emotional intelligence scale and a Likert scale-based questionnaire to reveal aspects of collaborative learning. The results of this study are 1) normality text is Kolmogorov-Smirnov sig value on Tests of Normality For control class is VIII-1 with pretest significance0.154 0.005 and post test 0.036 0.005 while For class experiment that is class VIII-2 with pretest VIII-2 significance 0.200 0.005 and post test 0.124 0.005; 2) Homogenity text second variable value the sign is 0.700 and 0.81 shows that the data is homogeneous because mark significance 0.005. This matter show that in study This No there is similarity variance from moderate variable tested; 3) Hypotesis Testing obtained The t value is 23.158 and the sig value . (2 tailed) is 0.000 0.005. The results of the study are expected to be applied in schools to improve the quality of education and provide valuable experience for researchers in conducting action research related to collaborative learning.
