Abstract

In the flats the government provides a balcony or a back porch on each dwelling that serves to relax with the family to enjoy the outside view as well as a place for entry of fresh air from outside. From the results of the questionnaire it was found that the most frequent activities of residents on the balcony were drying clothes (38%), then cooking (28%) and bathing (24%). While the smallest are eating (5%) and sitting sitting (5%). This is due to the unavailability of a place for drying clothes so that most residents use balconies for drying clothes. The condition of flats, especially balconies, has decreased in quality and occurs in the technical, functional, and aesthetic aspects of the building, as seen from the condition of the balconies that have experienced a lot of changes in shape and function. From the observations it was found that the decrease in balcony quality was due to the shape of the railing. This study uses a rationalistic approach with a qualitative deductive method conducted on balcony railings in several flats. The purpose of this study is to find answers about the effect of balcony railing shape on the visual quality of the Flats facade. From this research, the results show that balcony railings with vertical arrangement have a worse influence on the visual quality of the apartment facade compared to the horizontal arrangement. This is because the horizontal arrangement of residents cannot put their clothesline out of the balcony (on the outside). Thus, the visual quality of the apartment vasade will remain awake and avoid the impression of slums due to the hanging clothesline.

Abstract

This research aims to know by designing signage we can form the identity of the fish-market area in Kalanganyar, Sidoarjo. In this research, we used the character appraisal analysis to analyse the existing condition of the fish-market area. This analysis focusing on how to create the signage suitable for increasing the visual identity of the area. Walkthrough analysis was held, to assess whether the pedestrian feels any connections to the feel of the fish market’s signage as an identity of the whole area. Based on the result, the pedestrian majority didn’t feel the visual connectivity to the area, and this can lead to a lack of interest. Pedestrian didn’t feel attracted to the area just by seeing the signage of the existing of that area condition. Pragmatic design approach then used as a way of designing the signage by the area. Using the most famous fisheries product as a branding logo, we use the approachable and funny design of the signage to attract the tourist. By using the same logo and urban design criteria, there are several types of signage that we can apply, for the entire area and the fisheries stall. We used the contrast colour, and summer colour scheme to achieve the most eye-catching signage to establishing the identity of the fish-market area. Besides that, do-it-yourself fisheries accessories added into the façade of the fish stall to reach the identity that we want to create in the fish-market area as the identity of the coastal village fish-market.

Abstract

Some of research results related to science about the advantages of infographics have been summarized by Smiciklas (2012), including the fact that vision occupying a very large part of the brain, infographics are more easily processed by the brain than plain text, and that the brain is designed to look for something different. The majority of people are visual learners and it is estimated that 65% of the population are visual learners, so the use of infographic to communicate an information will be very appropriate. There are several types of infographic, one of which is flow infographic. Flow infographics have a function to communication an information in form of sequential flow or procedural. Through flow infographics, information can be explained step by step using attractive visualization, briefly, and still can be easily understood. The elements in visual principles can be applied to the visualization of flow infographics such as the use of numerics style, shape color transitions, shape sizes transitions, position differences, etc. Visual principles in flow infographics must be considered and understood by designers, so that the visualization of flow infographic can be more attractive and can communicate an information appropriately to readers.

Abstract

Soil degradation will affect the availability of soil nutrients. Microbes role was important in supplying soil nutrient. How is microbes supply the nutrients can be learned through the metagenome technique. Metagenome is one of the molecular techniques that can identify microbial communities from soil samples that are used quickly and precisely. Through the metagenome technique, not only information about the identity of microbial species can be obtained, but also the enzymes produced, which will affect the soil nutrients availability. This study aims to detect and identify the impact of land cover types on microbial types. Soil samples were taken under agricultural land (LP) and agroforestry (AF). Each type of land cover was taken at 4 (four) different locations. The method used in this research is a molecular-based species identification method through metagenome analysis. This study showed that there are variations in microbial species in various types of land cover. This information is important for sustainable agricultural management in the future. Our study showed that on all of the land cover types, Proteobacteria were the most abundant phylum in all of the land cover patterns. Among them, s_Sphingomonas_melonis; f_Sphingomonadaceae; g_Sphingomonas; c_Alphaproteobacteria; p_Proteobacteria; and o_Sphingomonadales were the most abundant in the LP groups, while p_Acidobacteria and c_Deltaproteobacteria were the most abundant in AF groups. This composition of soil metagenomic was associated with the soil physic-chemical properties, especially pH and soil organic matter.

Abstract

Sea surface temperature is one parameter to determine the condition of the ecosystem of a waters, besides that there are other parameters, namely the acidity of sea water which is a number that indicates the degree of an ac id and base of the aquatic environment, where generally the coastal environment has an acidity value below 8 so that changes from this value will disrupt life as a whole for the coastal environment. The purpose of this study is to find a mathematical model of SST and pH that can describe the situation of the coastal area, where as a case study is the Kwanyar coast in Bangkalan district, Madura Island. The method developed here is the least square method to find the optimum mathematical model of these parameters, in addition to that by calculating the algorithm of several channels of visible wavelengths owned by Aqua Modis images which are 412 nm, 531 nm and 667 nm. The results obtained from this study are for the optimum wavelength of sea surface temperature is 667 nm while for pH is 531 nm. From the statistical analysis for the t-test carried out, the results showed no significant correlation between sea surface temperature with a pH value where both parameters showed a statistically low correlation value with an error rate of 5% and the existing Pearson correlation test equipment. The conclusion is that for the Kwanyar Bangkalan coastline the temperature is still in the normal threshold as well as the existing pH value, only these two parameters cannot be stated as a causal relationship, where the temperature rise will have an impact on pH changes and vice versa.

Abstract

Biomaterials are materials that have been developed for repair, recovery of function, and replacement of diseased or damaged parts of the body especially in cases of fractures. The material for biomaterial that is commonly used is calcium phosphate (Ca3(PO4)2). The purpose of this research is to synthesize calcium phosphate and study its characteristics. The source of calcium carbonate in this study was from white mussel shells. The experiment was carried out by reacting calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and phosphoric acid (H3PO4) to form the liquid phase of calcium phosphate. The calcium phosphate solution was filtered and the filtrate obtained was added with a solution of NaOH as a pH controller, stirred using a magnetic stirrer in the time range from 10 to 50 minutes to form a calcium phosphate crystal. Filtration is carried out to separate the calcium phosphate crystals from the solution. The results showed calcium phosphate products containing 62% of ?-dicalcium phosphate (?-Ca2P2O7) and 38% of hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) so that it could be stated that the product was biphasic calcium phosphate. The raw material of white mussel shell powder was analyzed using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), while the calcium phosphate solution was analyzed by Spectrophotometry, Gravimetry, and AAS (calcium test). Hydroxyapatite products were analyzed by XRF, XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), FTIR (Fourier Transform InfraRed), and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy).

Abstract

The scandium-zirconium modified aluminum alloy Scalmalloy is additively manufactured using Selective Laser Melting in the Renishaw AM 400 SLM machine. THE optimal SLM process parameter window concerning relative densities exceeding 99% was investigated. Scalmalloy powder was characterized concerning particle morphology, qualitative particle size distribution, and inner gas pores. Full available SLM laser power of Renishaw AM 400 SLM machine was applied to increase productivity as much as possible. Archimedes density method and metallographic cross-sections were used to determine relative densities, whereby all samples printed exceeded 99%. THE optimal SLM process parameter window for the laser power of 400W was found to be in the range of 40-110J/mm3 where scan speed is doubled compared to other literature using 200W, thus productivity is greatly increased. Microhardness testing was also performed on all samples and showed the successful suppression of Al3(Sc1-xZrx) precipitates, whereby subsequent age hardening may be performed post-process.

Abstract

The application of sewage treatment in New Delhi should implement the treatment processes, which are easy to be operated and is not costly operational and avoid the complexity of the operating system of STP. The renewed interest in alternative onsite treatment technology by using a constructed wetland (CW). Canna lily, an ornamental plant that has an aesthetic value, is very suitable for an alternative plant for a constructed wetland. This study aims to observe the ability of canna lily for phytotechnology implementation in a constructed wetland. This study is known as a range-finding test (RFT), which served as a preliminary test. Observation is conducted by preparing variation concentration of wastewater; 25%; 50%; 75%; 100% and 0% as control, which was injected into the wetland. CW (60 cm long, 60 cm wide and 60 cm deep) contained gravel medium height 25 cm with a wastewater volume 3 L. Observation measured the height of the plant, the color of the leaf, and DO, and BOD concentration. The observation was conducted for about 25 days, in term of 15 days for range finding test and 10 days for acclimation. The results show that Canna lily could grow well, though it has some part of the withered leaf, reach height significantly, and indicated decreasing concentration of organic parameters. It is conjectured that Canna lily is very possible for a constructed wetland application.
