Abstract

Interactions within the classroom are essential since a conducive learning atmosphere is necessary. This study explored the relationship between lecturer-teacher interactions and learning effectiveness at universities. The survey design used in this study was correlational research design. The participants in this study were selected from universities in Kwara State. Using multi-stage sampling approaches, 350 student-teachers participated in the study. Proformas and a questionnaire designed by the researchers titled “Teacher-Student Interaction Questionnaire” were utilized to gather data. A split-half approach was utilized to determine the questionnaire’s reliability, and the gathered data was analyzed using Cronbach Alpha, which has a reliability coefficient of 0.78.Mean was used to answer the research questions, and the PPMC and t-test at the 0.05 significant level were used to test the hypotheses. According to the study’s findings, lecturer-teacher interactions in universities in Ilorin are not often vertical, antagonistic, authoritarian, or laissez-faire. This study also reported that most respondents had above-average academic engagement levels in Ilorin. The researchers recommended that lecturers prioritise building positive relationships with their students. Establishing trusting, supporting relationships with their students fosters open communication and a sense of trust that increases student engagement and motivation, which is why lecturers should prioritise developing these relationships.

Abstract

This study explored the influence of age and gender on contraceptive use among undergraduates in South-West Nigeria. The primary aim was to examine how contraceptive use among students is moderated by age and gender. The research employed a descriptive survey design, with a sample of 1,200 undergraduates (both male and female, aged 15 and above) selected through a multi-stage sampling method. Data were collected using a self-developed questionnaire, the "Contraceptive Usage Questionnaire" (CUQ), which had a Pearson reliability coefficient (r) of 0.70. Inferential statistics were used for data analysis, with t-tests and ANOVA employed to test the hypotheses. When the ANOVA results indicated significant differences, a Scheffe Posthoc test was conducted to pinpoint the specific areas of significance. The results revealed that gender does not significantly affect contraceptive use among undergraduates, whereas age plays a role in determining usage patterns. Based on these findings, the study recommends that government and university authorities collaborate to introduce a comprehensive sexuality education course to inform students about responsible contraceptive use. Additionally, professional counselors and relevant stakeholders should hold bi-monthly seminars and workshops to educate students on the proper and acceptable use of contraceptives.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the planning for implementing School-Based Management (SBM) at SMP IT Muhammadiyah An Najah Jatinom, focusing on improving the quality of learning and human resource (HR) management. Ideally, SBM is designed to enhance students' academic and religious competence through participatory planning involving teachers, parents, and the local community. However, despite the formulation of the school's vision and mission, the school faces limited resources and budget, which impact the implementation of planned programs. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation from relevant parties, such as the Principal, Vice Principal, and Teachers. Data analysis was conducted through triangulation to ensure the validity and accuracy of the information obtained. The research findings show that although SBM planning is well-structured, focusing on improving teacher competency through training and workshops and developing infrastructure that supports technology-based educational facilities, there are still deficiencies in coordination and supervision that need improvement for more optimal implementation. Overall, this research emphasizes that structured and participatory planning is essential to achieving SBM success and enhancing educational quality, although challenges in resource management must be addressed for optimal implementation.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the implementation, supporting and inhibiting factors, and follow-up actions of the principal’s academic supervision in improving teacher performance. A descriptive qualitative method was used for this study. The research participants included 24 teachers and the school principal, with teachers serving as the main informants. Data were collected through documentation, interviews, and observations. Data analysis was performed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which involves data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings of the research reveal that: 1) the implementation of academic supervision by the principal involves planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation based on supervision instruments, which include learning administration tools such as annual programs, semester programs, syllabi, lesson plans, educational calendars, lesson schedules, and a Learning Implementation Plan (RPP); 2) the supporting factors for effective supervision include the availability of school facilities and the teachers’ awareness and preparedness, while the inhibiting factors include the principal's busy schedule and academic background; 3) follow-up supervision is conducted by the teacher coordinator through an assignment letter. The results of this study provide valuable insights into the principal's role in academic supervision and its impact on teacher performance improvement at MTs Mathalibul Huda Jepara.

Abstract

This study investigates the learning outcomes of Navy Cadets at Puslatdiksarmil in basic swimming, specifically breaststroke. A quantitative experimental design was used, involving 100 students divided into two groups: an experimental group receiving audiovisual and demonstration (AV-D) instruction and a control group with only demonstration (D). The performance test, based on the correctness of breaststroke technique, measured students' skills before and after treatment. A motivation questionnaire was also used to assess the impact of motivation on swimming ability. Results showed that the experimental group achieved a higher average score (73.16) compared to the control group (66.39). This indicates that AV-D significantly improves learning outcomes. Therefore, incorporating AV-D is recommended to enhance cadets' swimming abilities at Puslatdiksarmil.

Abstract

This study highlights the significant differences between educational conditions in rural and urban areas, particularly in terms of teacher quality and administrative support. The gap between schools in rural and urban areas often affects educational outcomes, which ultimately impacts students' opportunities and quality of life. However, research comparing teacher quality and administrative support in rural and urban schools has been limited. Therefore, this study aims to fill this gap by conducting an in-depth comparative study between rural and urban schools. The research method used is a comparative approach to analyze the differences and similarities between rural-based schools and urban-based schools in terms of teacher quality and administrative support. The results indicate that the comparison of teacher quality in rural and urban schools is influenced by two types of support: managerial support and academic support. Teacher quality and administrative support play an essential role in creating a quality and effective learning environment in both rural-based and urban-based schools.

Abstract

This study examines errors in interpreting the word “konteks” (context) and its equivalents in Merdeka Curriculum textbooks for Indonesian Language, Civic Education, and English Language subjects. Semantic ambiguity and inaccuracies in the use of this term have led to misunderstandings that hinder students' comprehension and learning outcomes. The research aims to identify patterns and potential sources of misinterpretation to ensure alignment between textbook language and the learning objectives of the Merdeka Curriculum. Using a qualitative approach with a comparative method, the study analyzed the meaning and usage of “konteks” across subjects. Data were collected through documentation of both explicit and implicit references, followed by descriptive content analysis based on Miles et al.'s interactive model. Triangulation, expert validation, and adherence to ethical standards ensured the validity and reliability of findings. Results indicate that misinterpretations of “konteks” often lead to fragmented understanding, making it difficult for students to connect concepts across academic and social settings. This disrupts cognitive processes, preventing the development of complex analytical skills. To address these issues, teachers should facilitate clarifying exercises and discussions emphasizing context. Additionally, textbook evaluations must prioritize accurate definitions, precise usage, and illustrative examples to minimize ambiguity and enhance learning outcomes.
