Abstract

This study aims to analyze the digital communication strategy implemented by the @teaterkelilingind Instagram account in promoting the production of Immortal The Musical: Si Pitung. The research focuses on how Teater Keliling packages traditional cultural content to make it relevant and appealing to the younger generation through social media. A descriptive qualitative approach underpinned by the Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) theory was utilized in this study. Data collection was conducted through content observation, documentation, and in depth interviews with the production manager, head of social media, and a key informant from the audience. The results indicate that @teaterkelilingind successfully builds audience engagement by implementing a "stick to the value" strategy, modifying narratives with modern romance, and optimizing Instagram features such as Reels, Feeds, and Stories using the inclusive greeting "warga". From a CMC perspective, this digital interaction overcomes the limitations of physical cues through interactive, hyperpersonal communication. Despite facing obstacles like algorithmic opacity, consistent content planning remains the primary supporting factor for the promotional success of this production.

Abstract

Communication between migrant students and their parents plays an important role in maintaining family relationships despite geographical distance. WhatsApp is one of the most widely used communication media because it provides various features, such as text messaging, voice messaging, voice calls, and video calls. The use of WhatsApp helps migrant students and their parents stay connected in their daily lives. This study aims to identify the interpersonal communication patterns of migrant students from Palembang living in RW 04 Kayu Jati with their parents through WhatsApp, to understand the forms of interaction used, and to identify the obstacles encountered in the communication process. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through interviews, observation, documentation, and triangulation. The findings indicate that communication between migrant students and their parents is carried out regularly, openly, and supportively. This communication is used to exchange information, maintain emotional closeness, and provide moral support. The obstacles identified include internet network disruptions, delays in responding to messages, and misunderstandings in interpreting message content. However, these obstacles do not reduce the intensity of the communication.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and measure the influence of Korean drama storylines on emotional escape among Generation Z aged 18-23 years in RW 06, Guntur, Setiabudi, South Jakarta. The Korean Wave phenomenon, which has become increasingly widespread in the era of digital streaming, has made Korean dramas one of the most popular forms of entertainment among Generation Z, often serving as a means of emotional escape from academic, social, and work-related pressures. This research employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory survey design and was grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) theory, in which Korean drama storylines were positioned as the stimulus and emotional escape as the response. A sample of 143 respondents was determined using the Slovin formula and selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 27. The results showed the regression equation Y = 4.006 + 0.673X, with a t-value of 10.954 and a significance level of < 0.001, indicating that was rejected and was accepted. The coefficient of determination () was 0.460, indicating that Korean drama storylines explained 46.0% of the variance in emotional escape, while the remaining 54.0% was influenced by other factors outside the scope of this research model.

Abstract

The Reba Traditional Ritual is a tradition of the Ngada people in East Nusa Tenggara. This ritual is performed as a way to honor ancestors, express gratitude, and pray for safety and a better life. This study aims to identify the symbols present in the Reba Traditional Ritual, understand the meanings of these symbols, and examine how cultural communication occurs within the ritual. In this study, the researcher employed a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation with informants consisting of traditional leaders, religious leaders, and the younger generation of the Ngada community. The results of the study indicate that the symbols in the Reba Traditional Ritual consist of object symbols, action symbols, and verbal symbols. These symbols convey meanings of gratitude, respect for ancestors, togetherness, well-being, hard work, self-purification, and hope for a better life. Furthermore, the Reba Traditional Ritual also serves as a medium of cultural communication that conveys social, spiritual, and cultural values to future generations. These findings align with the Theory of Cultural Communication developed by Samovar and Richard, which explains that culture is transmitted through the process of communication.

Abstract

Social media has become a digital communication space that enables users to interact and construct meanings through various symbols, including emojis. This study aims to describe the forms of symbolic interaction and identify the meanings constructed by users in the comment section of the Instagram account @cuplikanfilm on a post featuring the behind-the-scenes process of the film Pelangi di mars. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving three informants and one expert triangulator. The findings indicate that symbolic interaction in the comment section is reflected through the use of emojis, informal language, and various forms of user engagement. Emojis are utilized as a means of expressing emotions, opinions, and appreciation toward the content presented. Furthermore, users interpret the film production content as a representation of visual quality, a source of expectations regarding the storyline, and a reflection of teamwork during the production process. User participation is not only demonstrated through commenting activities but also through reading comments and giving likes. The study concludes that meaning in digital interactions is formed through the interpretation of symbols influenced by users’ experiences, understanding, and social contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the dynamics of dishonesty in interpersonal communication toward the trust of college student couples in RT 02 RW 14 Rawamangun. Dishonesty in relationships is not only related to the delivery of inaccurate information but also includes openness, communication patterns, and how couples deal with conflicts. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with three college student couples who had experiences related to dishonesty in romantic relationships and one triangulator as supporting research data. The results show that dishonesty appears in various forms, such as hiding information, reducing openness, and communicating with other parties without the partner’s knowledge. Such behavior affects the dynamics of interpersonal communication and causes changes in the level of trust within the relationship. Decreased trust can lead to conflicts, suspicion, and changes in communication patterns between partners. This study shows that openness and effective communication play an important role in maintaining the quality of romantic relationships.

Abstract

The development of digital media has driven the increasing consumption of Korean dramas among Generation Z in Indonesia through internet-based streaming platforms that are increasingly accessible to society. One aspect that plays a role in viewing decisions is the visual appeal of actors, encompassing physical appearance, style of dress, facial expressions, and aesthetic impressions displayed in Korean dramas. This study aims to understand Generation Z's perception of the visual appeal of Korean drama actors, identify viewing motives, and describe the meaning of actors' visual appeal in relation to those motives. The study was conducted at Jl. Cempaka VI, RT 008/RW 09, Kelurahan Cakung Timur, Kecamatan Cakung, East Jakarta. The method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving three Generation Z informants and one expert triangulator in Communication Studies. The findings indicate that the visual appeal of actors serves as a first impression triggering viewer interest in Korean dramas. Viewing motives include entertainment, visual satisfaction, emotional closeness with characters, and the desire to follow South Korean popular culture trends. Thus, the visual appeal of actors is interpreted as an important element in viewing motives among Generation Z in Cempaka VI, Cakung Timur

Abstract

This study examines the role of TikTok's live streaming feature in building interactive communication between the @june_collections account and consumers of children’s clothing aged 0-6 years. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, the research involved five purposively selected informants comprising the business owner, the main host, and three active consumers. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation of eight live streaming sessions, and account documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2014) interactive model and validated through expert triangulation. Findings indicate that live streaming operates as a multidimensional communication medium through three primary functions: bridging information gaps, transforming transactional into relational interactions, and cultivating a loyal consumer community. The three most dominant interactive communication elements are personalization, responsiveness, and entertainment. Communication strategies employed include a non-coercive approach, sensory-rich product demonstrations, organic testimonials as social proof, and the simultaneous integration of the 4P marketing mix in each broadcast session. This study affirms that live streaming commerce, implemented with an appropriate communication strategy, serves as a sustainable relationship-building medium between small businesses and their consumers.
