Abstract

This study examines the hangout (nongkrong) behavioral patterns of Generation Z at Affan Coffee from a social communication perspective. Café hangout culture has evolved beyond mere consumption into a social space supporting interaction, idea exchange, and identity formation. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Informants were selected via purposive sampling—three visitors aged 23–27 who qualify as Gen Z. Findings show: (1) Gen Z chooses Affan Coffee for its comfortable atmosphere, adequate facilities, strategic location, and affordable prices; (2) hangout activities are multifunctional, including casual conversation, group work, work-from-café, and gaming together; (3) hangout is perceived as a transitional space to reduce stress, maintain social connections, and express identity. Results are analysed through George Herbert Mead's Symbolic Interactionism—specifically the concepts of Mind, Self, and Society—revealing that hangout activity is a social process that constructs meaning, identity, and interpersonal relationships.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the content promotion strategy on the Instagram account @screenplayfilm in increasing the audience appeal of Pertaruhan The Series Season 3. This research uses qualitative methods with a descriptive and case study approach. Data was obtained through observation, in-depth interviews with informants directly involved in the promotion process, and documentation of Instagram content. The analysis was conducted using the AIDA model (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action). The results show that the @screenplayfilm account implements a systematic content strategy through various types of content including teasers, trailers, reels, behind the scenes, and the use of interactive Instagram features. This strategy successfully fulfills all stages of AIDA: attracting attention through strong visuals, building interest through storytelling and actor popularity, cultivating desire through story clips that provoke curiosity, and encouraging action through active engagement in the form of likes, comments, shares, and views. This study concludes that Instagram-based content promotion strategies are proven effective in increasing audience appeal for Indonesian local series.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the increasing challenges faced by mass media in maintaining public trust amid today’s information overload, particularly in live religious television programs. Religious talk shows carry a high credibility risk due to the limited ability to filter information in real time. This study aims to analyze the gatekeeping mechanism in selecting guest speakers for the Damai Indonesiaku program on tvOne, identify influencing factors, and examine the parties involved. The study applies the Hierarchy of Influences Theory by Pamela Shoemaker and Stephen D. Reese, encompassing five levels of influence: individual, media routines, organizational, extramedia, and ideological. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants consisted of the Executive Producer, the Producer of Damai Indonesiaku, and a communication studies expert as triangulator. Findings reveal that gatekeeping occurs in sequential stages, beginning with weekly editorial meetings, speaker selection based on competence, credibility, public speaking ability, thematic relevance, and digital popularity, followed by schedule confirmation by the Talent Division, and final approval from the Deputy Editor-in-Chief. The process is influenced by KPI regulations, P3SPS standards, and the Press Council.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the phenomenon of low participation among residents of RT 03 RW 04, South Utan Kayu Village, Matraman Subdistrict, East Jakarta, in conveying their concerns to the Village Consultative Body (LMK), despite the availability of communication channels. This study aims to determine the role of the LMK in maintaining two way communication with the community, to understand the forms of two way communication that occur, and to identify the obstacles encountered. This study employs the Symmetrical Two Way Communication theory proposed by Grunig and Hunt. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including non participant observation, in depth interviews, and documentation from five informants. The results indicate that the LMK serves as a communication bridge between residents and the village administration through deliberative forums and a WhatsApp group. The barriers identified include delays in following up on residents concerns due to bureaucratic processes, as well as limited resident attendance at deliberative forums. Thus, two way communication between the LMK and the community of RT 03 RW 04 South Utan Kayu continues despite various obstacles, as the LMK consistently fulfills its role as a conduit for residents concerns and information from the sub district office.

Abstract

Green mustard (Brassica rapa var. parachinensis L.) is one of the vegetables widely consumed by the community due to its high nutritional value. Efforts to increase the production of green mustard can be carried out thru the use of organic fertilizers, one of which is manure. This study aims to determine the effect of various types of manure on the growth and yield of green mustard plants and to identify the type of manure that provides the best results. The research was conducted in Kesetnana Village, Mollo Selatan District, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province from April to June 2026. The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with one factor consisting of five treatments, namely without manure (A0), chicken manure (A1), cow manure (A2), horse manure (A3), and goat manure (A4), with three replications. The parameters observed include plant height, number of leaves, leaf width, stem diameter, stem length, root length, and fresh plant weight. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The research results showed that the application of various types of manure had an effect on the growth of green mustard plants. The treatment with goat manure (A4) yielded the best results in terms of plant height (29.33 cm), leaf width (13.00 cm), stem length (13.16 cm), and root length (10.66 cm). Meanwhile, the treatment with cow manure (A2) produced the highest number of leaves, which was 9.33 leaves. In general, the use of manure can enhance the growth and yield of green mustard plants compared to without the application of manure.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the symbolic meaning of custom motorcycles as a medium of identity expression among builders in the Cempaka Baru 10 area. Custom motorcycles not only function as a means of transportation but also serve as a medium for expressing values, character, creativity, and the identities of their owners and builders. This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving custom motorcycle builders actively engaged in the Cempaka Baru 10 area. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that custom motorcycles are interpreted as representations of personal identity, reflecting the builders' character, life experiences, aesthetic preferences, and personal values. The shape, style, color, and various modification elements of the motorcycles contain symbolic meanings that are used to distinguish builders from others while demonstrating their uniqueness and creativity. Furthermore, custom motorcycles function as a form of symbolic communication, enabling builders to convey messages, status, and self-image to their social environment. Therefore, custom motorcycles serve as a medium of identity expression that carries social, cultural, and personal significance for builders.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media has encouraged the emergence of Instagram second accounts as alternative spaces for self-expression, particularly among Generation Z men who continue to experience social expectations related to masculinity. This study aims to examine how Generation Z men in RW 13 Tebet, South Jakarta, use Instagram second accounts as alternative spaces for self-expression. The research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Informants were selected through purposive sampling and consisted of three active Instagram second account users and one triangulation informant. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that second accounts function as private spaces where users freely express emotions, personal experiences, opinions, interests, and daily activities that are rarely shared on their main accounts. Participants reported feeling safer because their audiences were limited to trusted individuals, reducing social pressure and fear of negative judgment. From Erving Goffman's dramaturgical perspective, the main account represents the front stage, while the second account functions as the backstage where users present more authentic identities. This study concludes that Instagram second accounts serve not only as backup accounts but also as digital identity management strategies that support emotional well-being among Generation Z men.

Abstract

The development of the financial services sector has been accompanied by increasingly complex financial crimes, necessitating a specialized investigative body with sufficient technical authority. This study aims to analyze the regulatory framework governing the investigative authority of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Investigators in financial sector crimes based on the applicable normative framework. This research employs a normative juridical method with a statute approach and conceptual approach, utilizing library research through primary and secondary legal materials analyzed prescriptively with deductive reasoning. The study finds that OJK Investigators hold investigative authority of an attributive nature derived from Law Number 21 of 2011 and Law Number 4 of 2023, encompassing four dimensions of authority: the scope of criminal offenses, subjects, types of actions, and the timeframe of exercise. Following Constitutional Court Decision Number 59/PUU-XXI/2023, this authority shifted from a potentially exclusive character to one exercised coordinatively alongside the National Police without eliminating its attributive legal basis. The exercise of OJK investigative authority requires procedural compliance with the principle of legality as reinforced through the case review mechanism under Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code, such that deviations from prescribed procedures may invalidate investigation results and serve as the basis for assessing the legality of investigative actions in the financial services sector.
