Abstract

Product diversification involves transforming generated waste into new products with economic value or useful applications. This approach not only reduces the disposed waste volume but also changes the perception of waste from being a source of problems to a potential source for creating added value. This research is a qualitative study using an observational case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document review at a small-scale rubber coagulant industry in Musi Rawas. The research findings indicate that CV. KBJA has begun exploring product diversification strategies for handling sulfuric acid waste by converting it into liquid fertilizer. Moving forward, there's a need for enhanced training and education regarding more effective waste management strategies to improve understanding and implementation of new practices. Additionally, collaboration among industries, government, and research institutions is necessary to facilitate the development of this product diversification.

Abstract

Patients with chronic kidney failure undergoing hemodialysis face physical and emotional stress due to long-term therapy. This condition often causes treatment fatigue, which is physical and psychological fatigue that can reduce motivation and adherence to treatment. One of the psychological factors that can help overcome this fatigue is self-compassion, which is the ability to accept yourself with empathy and be loving to yourself. Patients with good levels of self-compassion generally have higher emotional resilience and more positive adaptability. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between self-compassion and treatment fatigue in chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. This study uses a descriptive design of correlation with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 60 patients undergoing hemodialysis for at least six months were selected through purposive sampling. Results of this study Most of the respondents were male (56.7%), aged 41–55 years (48.3%), and had undergone hemodialysis for more than two years (66.6%). Based on the level of self-compassion, the majority of respondents were in the medium category (63.3%), while for treatment fatigue, most were also in the medium category (66.7%). The results of the statistical test showed that there was a significant negative relationship between self-compassion and treatment fatigue (r = –0.471; p = 0.001). This means that the higher the patient's self-compassion, the lower the level of treatment fatigue felt. In conclusion, there was a significant negative relationship between self-compassion and treatment fatigue in patients with chronic kidney failure undergoing hemodialysis.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion or insulin resistance. In addition to pharmacological therapy, complementary treatments derived from natural products are increasingly explored to support glycemic control. Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) contains bioactive compounds with potential hypoglycemic effects. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of bitter melon juice on blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Madatte Village, Polewali District. A quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test time-series design was conducted. Fifteen patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were selected using consecutive sampling and received 200 grams of freshly prepared bitter melon juice once daily. Blood glucose levels were measured at baseline, after 3 days, and after 7 days of intervention using a glucometer. Data were analyzed using the Friedman test. The results demonstrated a gradual reduction in mean blood glucose levels from 194.60 mg/dL at baseline to 191.93 mg/dL after 3 days and 184.80 mg/dL after 7 days. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference in blood glucose levels across the measurement periods (p = 0.01; p < 0.05). In conclusion, daily consumption of bitter melon juice was associated with a significant reduction in blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, with a more pronounced effect observed after seven days of intervention. Bitter melon juice may be considered a complementary approach for glycemic control.

Abstract

Healthy behavior is a main pillar in realizing Healthy Indonesia 2030, where the behavior needs to be internalized both individually and collectively. This effort is supported by various health facilities, from primary to tertiary services, to facilitate prevention, treatment, and early detection of disease. This study aims to examine and examine aspects of health beliefs in shaping healthy behavior in the Jatinangor community, using the lens of George Herbert Mead's Symbolic Interactionism Theory. This perspective highlights how the meaning of healthy behavior is constructed through social interaction, how individuals interpret the role of 'The Generalized Other' (society) in shaping collective healthy behavior, and how symbolic processes (such as communication and interpretation of cues) influence individual health beliefs. This qualitative study used in-depth interviews, observations, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) to collect data. The results showed that the majority of informants had strong healthy behavior beliefs, reflected by high perceived susceptibility and strong perceived benefits of preventive measures. Another key finding was the significant role of supportive communities, healthy lifestyle promotion, and respect for others in improving psychological well-being, all of which are manifestations of symbolic interaction processes. In conclusion, individual beliefs, self-regulation, motivation, social support, and mindsets which are formed and strengthened through symbolic interaction play a crucial role in achieving physical and emotional well-being. Based on these findings, it is recommended that health programs in Jatinangor District focus more on strengthening the role of communities and peer support groups, given the significant influence of social support in constructing collective healthy meanings and behaviors.
