Abstract

Birth preparation is an essential factor in reducing the risk of complications that may lead to maternal mortality during labor. Physical activity during pregnancy is believed to enhance maternal readiness for childbirth, both physically and psychologically. This study aimed to determine the relationship between physical activity and childbirth readiness among pregnant women at Cimalaka Primary Health Center, Sumedang Regency. This research employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of all pregnant women registered at the health center, with a total sample of 185 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using the Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire (PPAQ) to assess the level of physical activity and a childbirth readiness questionnaire. Data analysis included descriptive statistics to portray respondent characteristics and inferential analysis using the Spearman correlation test due to non-normally distributed data. The results showed a p-value of 0.074 (> 0.05), indicating that there was no significant relationship between physical activity and childbirth readiness. The correlation coefficient (r = 0.132) demonstrated a very weak positive relationship. These findings suggest that maternal readiness for childbirth is more strongly influenced by other factors, such as knowledge, access to information, previous childbirth experience, husband’s support, and participation in antenatal education classes, which may have greater cognitive and psychosocial impacts compared to daily physical activity.

Abstract

Medicinal plants are all types of plants that can be used as medicinal ingredients, either individually or in mixtures, which are believed to cure a disease or provide effects on health. The sensitive plant has potential for anti-inflammatory treatment due to its flavonoid content. This serves as the basis for the urgency of this study, namely testing parts of the plant to be used as medicinal ingredients in an emulgel preparation. The formulation of an emulgel preparation from ethanol extract of sensitive plant leaves is a series of processes for producing a medicinal preparation with the main ingredient being sensitive plant leaves (Mimosa pudica L.). The purpose of this study was to formulate an emulgel preparation from the ethanol extract of sensitive plant leaves (Mimosa pudica L.). The research method used in this study was a laboratory experimental method. The emulgel preparation was made with variations in the concentration of the gelling agent HPMC (3%, 5%, and 7%). Evaluation of the preparation included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness, and emulsion type. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of sensitive plant leaves (Mimosa pudica L.) can be formulated as an emulgel preparation.

Abstract

Depression and sleep disorders are interrelated mental health problems that have a significant impact on the quality of life of the community. This study aims to analyze the relationship between depressive symptoms and sleep disorders in the adult population in Indonesia using data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI). This study used a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach based on secondary data, involving 596,589 respondents aged ≥18 years. Analysis was performed using logistic regression to estimate the odds ratio (OR). Results showed that respondents with depressive symptoms were 20.2 times more likely to experience sleep disorders than respondents without depression (OR = 20.206; 95% CI: 19.492–20.945; p < 0.001). Age was also significantly associated with sleep disorders (OR = 1.014; p < 0.001). The model was significant overall (p < 0.001), with a pseudo-R² of 0.112. These findings confirm that depression is a strong predictor of sleep disorders in the adult population. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of integrated screening for depression and sleep disorders in nursing care, particularly in primary and community services.

Abstract

Effective drug availability management plays an important role in supporting optimal healthcare services, improving hospital quality, and promoting cost efficiency in drug procurement. One of the main challenges in drug inventory control is determining the appropriate quantity and types of medicines that should be ordered. Therefore, identification and analysis of drug availability patterns are necessary to maintain adequate supply. This study aimed to evaluate drug availability, determine the percentage of drugs based on VEN (Vital, Essential, Non-essential) analysis, and assess the conformity of drug procurement with the hospital formulary at X Kebayoran Lama Hospital. This research used a descriptive analytic design with a retrospective approach using data from pharmaceutical products and medical supplies recorded at the Pharmacy Installation of X Kebayoran Lama Hospital during September–November 2024. Data were collected through document observation and interviews with relevant personnel. All pharmaceutical products and medical supplies were classified according to their categories and analyzed using the VEN method, then combined with ABC analysis to identify items with the highest utilization. The results showed 889 drug items, consisting of 56.13% Essential, 41.05% Non-essential, and 2.82% Vital drugs. Overall, drug procurement was consistent with the hospital formulary, although emergency conditions required special procurement of drugs outside the formulary.

Abstract

Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) as a chronic pathology highly depends on the synergy between pharmacological interventions and lifestyle modifications. Patient health literacy plays a crucial role in determining the effectiveness of glycemic control and the prevention of long-term complications. This research aims to map the patient knowledge profile while identifying the determinant factors influencing it at Royal Prima Hospital, Medan. Utilizing a descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, this study involved 100 respondents recruited through an accidental sampling technique. The research instrument employed an adapted version of the DKQ-24 questionnaire. Univariate analysis results confirmed that the majority of respondents (79%) possessed adequate understanding regarding their treatment regimen. Based on the Chi-Square test, a significant correlation was found in the gender variable ($p = 0.044$), while other demographic and clinical variables showed no meaningful association. Furthermore, binary logistic regression testing demonstrated a lack of simultaneous influence from all independent variables on the level of patient knowledge.

Abstract

Microencapsulation is one of the pharmaceutical technologies used to enhance the stability and effectiveness of herbal active compounds. This study aims to evaluate the formulation of microencapsulated preparations of ethanol extract from breadfruit leaves (Artocarpus altilis L.) using a chitosan–alginate polymer system. The research was conducted experimentally in vitro by preparing microcapsules with extract concentrations of 0.25%, 0.5%, and 0.75%, followed by evaluations including stability testing, moisture content, and floating tests in the rat stomach. The results showed that all formulations were physically stable without any changes in color, shape, odor, or texture over six temperature cycles. The moisture content of the microcapsules ranged from 0.63% to 12.34%, with the lowest value observed at the 0.75% concentration. Floating tests indicated that all formulations had a floating lag time of less than 2 minutes, with the longest floating duration of up to 8 hours at the 0.75% concentration. Based on these results, microencapsulation of breadfruit leaf ethanol extract at a concentration of 0.75% is considered the best formulation and has the potential to be developed as a gastroretentive pharmaceutical preparation.
