Abstract

The search of happiness often misleads people to objectify happiness itself. In Zhuangzi's philosophical view, happiness is a state of continuous flow in an endless process. If one is immersed in the process, happiness itself will appear in the state of oblivion. He will forget his starting point, flow like the wind, and will not pay attention to the end of the process or the set goal. He will join in the process, forget about himself, and forget everything around him. Through oblivion, one will be free to roam without anyone getting in his way. Zhuangzi uses humorous and lively stories to lead every reader to seek and afterward forget happiness. A paradoxical condition arises here. Forgetting happiness is a way to reach deeper happiness

Abstract

This article intends to unravel the power of faith, hope and love in dealing with human weaknesses in facing Covid-19 pandemic. This epidemic has disrupted the order of human life as a whole, both private and public. The government has responded by seeking various things, starting from implementing physical distancing policies up to implementing the limitation of community activities. In addition, vaccination activities continue to be intensified. The purpose of all this is to slow down the pace of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have to appreciate these efforts. From the other side, we realize that to solve this problem we cannot rely merely on government efforts. The community must play an active role. In addition to complying with health protocols, the self-quarantine sought by community needs to be appreciated. However, these efforts need to be accompanied by strengths which come from within humans, namely faith, hope and love, as a complement to these external efforts. To describe this problem, the author uses qualitative research methods. The author studied a number of articles, such as Joerg Rieger, Hope versus Hope: Confronting Despair in Ancient and Present Times (2020); J.M. Child, Truth, Hope, Compassion in Times of Corona Virus and Presidential Elections (2020); and other documents related to this research. The results of this study confirm that the strength of the inner human forces altogether with solidarity performed by community can help to overcome the Covid-19 outbreak.

In an effort to obtain data on this theme, the author uses qualitative research, with the method of documentation. In this method, there are several stages that must be passed, namely the discovery of sources such as Church documents, books, journals, magazines, newspapers, and internet sources, especially the Vatican website, which discusses the theme being investigated by the author. After the data is collected, the next step is analysis. The existing data were analyzed in order to find common threads to construct the concept of hope from Pope Francis. Then the data is interpreted. The results of the interpretation are narrated and used to produce an article. The result obtained from this research is the discovery of the concept of hope, which is typical of Pope Francis. Its peculiarity lies in the notion of hope, the biblical basis that is used as a reference, the sources and objects of hope, the way to obtain hope. The concept of hope is very suitable to be applied in the current situation, namely the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has become increasingly important and urgent for Christians and theologians to reflect on hope in God as the ultimate source of hope for humankind in such a time like this. In the midst of the widespread of various misinterpretations of the Covid-19 pandemic, Christians and theologians are called to contribute their theological reflections for the betterment of individuals, societies and humanity at large especially in coping with and responding to the pandemic crisis. Abstract

The phrase “history always repeats itself” seems to be appropriate to describe the events that occur in this era. Starting from this jargon, the author tries to trace the history of the Israelites, especially the histories that describe the times when they experienced a crisis in their lives. There are several points of crisis that the people of Israel experienced and amazingly they were able to get out of every crisis in their life. Behind all these, there is a God who is always with them as He promised to the ancestors of Israel and their descendants.

Abstract

The presence of God and God’s saving deeds are the main theological issues in the history of theology. Theology of liturgy and sacrament always deals with the question about how to explain God’s presence in the celebrations of faith and in the symbols and media that are used in the sacraments. The discussion about the meaning of God’s presence and about the role of media in the liturgy and sacrament becomes a serious debate during the situation of this pandemic covid-19. This article focuses on the issue of the role of media in the liturgy (of the Eucharist) in order to reflect on the meaning of our hope for the presence of God and God’s saving deed. This article will be based on Louis Marie Chauvet’s understanding on the theology of the presence of God and based on Jean-Luc Marion’s explanation about media as an icon and idol.

Abstract

Man is created by God according in His own image. He has made and crowned him with glory and honour. It can be seen in man’s nature that, as long as he lives in this mortal world, he is equipped with awareness, intelligence and conscience. This is so important because the goal of man’s life is the eternal life, united with God. This must be the hope for every believer, although life in this world is not easy. Man is often hit by hard times. Hope, however, empowers man to optimally develop his awareness, intelligence and conscience.

Abstract

In this article, the author reflects on his experience as a survivor of COVID-19, employing a sociological concept, namely social capital. The author was infected with the covid-19 virus while studying, precisely while working on his thesis, at St. John's University, New York. Suffering from illness, in this case due to COVID-19, in a foreign country was already a difficult experience. The situation was even worse because at that time, medical personnel in the United States did not have adequate and reliable knowledge in dealing with COVID-19 since the pandemic had just entered the first wave. The author experienced the difficulty of getting access to hospital care because of the surge in the number of patients. The author recognized that his social status as a Catholic priest was an invaluable social capital in the process of his care and recovery from illness, such as enabling him to get access to hospital and gain moral, spiritual, and material supports from his social network

Abstract

Hijrah is a very important event for Muslims, a milestone in the formation of Islamic civilization in Yathrib or Medina. Many lessons can be learned from this hijrah. The hijrah of the Prophet Muhammad and his companions was not a running away from reality, but a decision based on divine revelation to build new strength and hope that one day they could return with honor, dignity, glory and transformation. The opening of the City of Mecca was the evidence of their real victory, “izaa jaa a nashrullahi wal fath”, when Allah’s help arrived and the city of Mecca had been opened (Surah an-Nasr: 1). This paper describes the hijrah as an historic event taking place in the context of rejection, persecution, and death threats carried out by the Quraysh infidels in Mecca against Muhammad and his followers. They moved to Yathrib or Medina to find new hope, glory and social transformation. Furthermore, this article offers some thoughts regarding the implementation of the idea of ????hijrah in the context of our common struggle to mitigate the prolonged covid-19 pandemic
