Abstract

The environmental crisis is one of the problems which is always related to human life. Meanwhile, there are various cultural traditions that teach love, respect, and harmony with nature and the environment. Morever, these traditions often convey the Creator as the provider and the giver of the harmony. They believe that the environmental crises might have been caused by the fading understanding of God as the creator and preserver of the universe. This belief in fact is the principle of Ngeti Uma ritual. This paper aims to find the true concept of God and His relationship with creations in the Ngeti Uma Ritual of the Ende-Lio community. The research for this paper uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. Data were obtained through interviews with key informants. The research find out in the ritual there is indeed a concept of belief in God and His relationship with the creations. God is called Du'a Nngga'e. This concept has its similarities with the teaching of the Catholic Church. God is seen as the creator, organizer, as well as the giver of the fertility of soil and the growth of nature.

Abstract

Abstract: Does the internet change the way of thinking from the people and members of the Church in Indonesia? I give a “yes” answer to this question. This answer was born from the reality that digital technology is not limited as a means or instrument that helps humans to achieve a better life. More than that, the internet has become a space of life that determines and gives meaning to human existence and the existence of the Indonesian Church. The internet also creates a culture called cyber culture. If the internet breeds new logical thinking and culture, and its existence has seized the attention of members of the Catholic Church, so the internet can become locus theologicus. The existence of the internet as a locus of theology is confirmed by the Popes.Seeing this reality, the Indonesian Catholic Church through the theologians need to develop a new theology, namely cyber theology. Through this cyber theology, the members of the Church find that the sophisticated communication technology reflects Christianism which is fundamentally a communicative event. Keywords: Cyber theology, internet, Indonesian Church, cyber culture

Abstract

On the one hand, the First World War was the epitome of destruction, on the other hand the war spurred humanity to think deeply and be creative. An example of human creativity, a fruit of World War I, was Dialectic Theology, a theology that counter-balances and corrects Liberal Theology. It corrects the concept that identifies God with the human, such that instead of humanity talking about God, humanity deifies itself. Dialectic Theology invites theologians to return to the Sacred Scriptures to rediscover the true concept of the Divine. The God of Christians is the God who is absolutely “Other”, a concept impossible for human reason to grasp. God can only be experienced in faith. Nevertheless, Dialectic Theology is not without imperfections for its theological model excessively absolutizes God. This tendency results in Dialectic Theology falling into a similar fault as Liberal Theology. Liberal Theology falls into anthropomorphism, while Dialectic Theology falls into theocentrism. It also ignors other theological sources, namely tradition and context. Contextual theologies are a reaction to Dialectic Theology. Keywords: dialectic theology, liberal theology, otherness, justification, religion, war. Kata-kata kunci: teologi dialektis, teologi liberal, alteritas, pembenaran, agama, perang.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the problems suspected to be faced by human is environmental problems. Whereas in various traditions generated by the ancestors, it encourages harmony between human life and nature through mythology, including the teachings of eschatology. The ecological crisis that occurred because of leaving the concept of eco-eschatology in religion and culture. This paper aims to find the ecoeschatological dimension in the creation myth of the Manggarai Community, NTT. The study used qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. Data were obtained through interviews with several key informants from several villages in Manggarai. The results of the study found two myths that have the eco-eschatological  local wisdom, namely the myth of the origin of humans and the origin of plants. There are several eco-eschatological meanings in the creation myth, those are everything was created by Morin, all creations have an eschatological future, and there is continuity and discontinuity between the old creation in the world and the new creation in the eschatological world. These meanings bear some resemblance to the teachings in Catholic theology of creation. This finding contributes to the Church in efforts to sensitize the people in relation to the ecological crisis. In addition, local wisdom is also the basis for the environmental conservation movement.

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the theological significance of the traditional religious practice of the Manggaraians in Flores, eastern Indonesia called the Kélah Ritual. It is an aspect of the traditional religion of the Manggaraians. The authorities of the Catholic Church in Manggarai have been very tolerant toward the ritual and provide enough space for the Catholics to practice it. The  Church, however, does not have a sufficient understanding of its theological significance due to insufficient previous studies on the subject. This paper demonstrates that the ritual has a deep theological significance. This study employed direct observation, direct participation in the Kélah Ritual in several places in Manggarai, focus group discussions, key informant interviews and questionnaires.  The results of this research indicate that this ritual is a rite of passage about the human soul departing from this world to heaven conducted a few days or months after the body’s interment. It was on the day of the soul’s ascension to heaven where all of the family ancestors meet with God eternally. This research concludes that, with its theological meaning, the ritual conforms with the Catholic faith doctrine regarding the gradual departure of the human soul to heaven after its corporal death – purgatory. No soul goes right away to heaven when it is not 100% holy. The ritual, therefore, could be valued and officially incorporated into the Catholic faith tradition  in order to enrich its worship to God.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the cosmic redemption concepts in the mythology of the pante tradition in Manggarai community. Pante tradition was an attempt to promote an attitude of respect for non-human creations so that nature would return to its harmonious state. The data was obtained through interviews with several key informants who were very close to these myths, including some palm tappers from several villages in Manggarai. From interviews and collected documents, several myths were found in the pante tradition. In Manggarai mythology, it is believed that there is inseparable relationship between humans, non-human creations, and the Supreme Being. Each creation has a contribution to the survival of the others and has eschatological future. The Manggarai people also believe that there is a place for the eternal life called pa'ang be le. This finding contributes to the development of ecological theology in the Indonesian Catholic Church and the universal Church. In addition, the awareness of the ultimate future for all creation strengthens the commitment of the Christians to preserve the environment.

Abstract

One of the characteristics of the independent learning curriculum is student-centered learning. Students become a reference in finding patterns of learning and mentoring. In this context, teachers are required to seek power and efforts to foster the capability of students (student agency) in leading themselves. One pattern of assistance used by teachers, especially Counseling Guidance teachers is person-centered counseling. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Person-Centered counseling approach pattern in fostering student learning independence. The method used in this research is a systematic literature review. The stages in this method are planning, conducting, and reporting. The locus of this research is the literature research results of several researchers, who examined several schools related to the person-centered counseling approach. The results of this research are an increase in student independence in learning when the teacher applies a person-centered counseling pattern. This has been proven in several studies. On that basis, the application of the person-centered counseling approach model is something that is definitely needed to improve the quality of student learning.
